Does the perspective in a map like this make sense? i.e. the land is "getting steeper" as you go up and to the left, even though the water cliffs below it (and on the right side of the map) are only 1 tile's worth of elevation.
Not.. really... if I try to make it look like an illusion of height it seems more like the right side is higher than the left. Unless by steeper you mean the left side is lower elevation? But if you just had a map like that with no explanation people would think it was a tiling mistake.
Orthogonal tiles are not really able to convey things like this well unless it's maybe viewed from a side angle.
This is becoming more a "how to" mapping question, rather than a discussion of general principles - which is the fundamental requirement for a separate thread in this particular forum. If this is indeed a "how to" question, it belongs either in the support forum for the engine you're using, or in Game and Map screenshots.
It just looks like the water on the left is deeper because the water level is flush with the land on both sides. If you want to convey more elevation on the left, you'd have to have a bit of cliff above water-level before the flat grassy walkable zones, imo.
In my opinion, it's either not really noticeable and doesn't add much or it looks a bit off and weird. In any event "the land is 'getting steeper' as you go up and to the left" is not something that comes to mind looking at your map, so I guess the effect doesn't really work for me, sorry :/
It was meant more of a discussion of the general principles of perspective in jrpg mapping, than a "how to," hence why I posted it here. I'm fine with you moving it though.
Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
