I have the player's room which has 3 windows in it. I have a picture loaded into it which dims the room and makes light come from the windows. My problem is whenever I walk into another room, the picture follows. So sitting right there are just 3 large spectrums of light when I don't want them. How do I make that picture stay in just that room?

Pictures always follow the screen, not the grid.

If you want something that stays in place, you could try either a parallax background or use events with sprites instead of a picture.

Parallax background doesn't work.

As you can see, I have the 3 elliptical light sources while the room is dimmed. Those follow me. If I set it to a parallax background I can't see them at all.

I meant the map itself, not just the light.

You could easily make those into event graphics.

mmm ... maybe not, since you want to darken it as well.

Do a search for parallax scripts. What you're after is an OVERHEAD parallax script. Then you make the parallax image the same size as the map, and (there may be a setting in the script to do this) set it so the parallax overlay will move in sync with the map itself. If 'overhead' 'overlay' 'parallax' don't bring anything up, try searching for 'lighting effects'.

Or you could simply erase the picture when you transfer out of that room.
I tried, there's no way to do it smoothly. The picture either disappears before it transfers the player or it disappears once the player is in the next room. (As in it's there for a moment, and then goes away.)

I'll try an overlay parallax.

Ah, you mean like that.

The best way to do this 'smoothly', would be to create an event on the second map that you don't want the picture to be, set it to parallel process, erase the picture and use an erase event at the end. This should make it disappear without it being noticed by the player.

Alright, I got the overlay parallax working with Yami's script. Although, it created a new problem. Since I have entered the script into the program, my intro event won't load. Any reason why?

Edit: It's actually making random parts of events not load also.

Here is a picture of the event.

Did you start a new game, or play from a saved file where that switch is already on? Only reason I can see for the event not running is if whatever conditions page 2 is on. F9 to debug and see your switches.

I fixed it, I had to change the switches to different numbers. Basically make a whole new switch for it.

Yes - one switch = one purpose. If anything else plays with the switch, you can see how it can mess things up.

I'm going to assume that your whole problem is resolved now. If it's not, just report the thread and ask for it to be reopened.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
