Hey guys, im just messing around with vx ace and I'm trying to play a sprite animation on input. More of a behavioral animation or a attack when a button is pressed (not walking) . Is it even possible to do so? I've been messing with a script but no luck, I'm afraid it might not be possible.

Easiest way to do this is to set up a spritesheet with the animation you wish to show, switch to the animation, and turn stepping animation on. This will require you to set up the spritesheet properly though, and to cut the animation to 3 frames, since there is only 3 rows in a single spritesheet.

Thank you mlogan, and ah yes that sounds right. Would I then make a event with the chosen animation?

Is this the best way though? To me, it seems it would depend on exactly what you are trying to accomplish. I would think if you are wanting an action to occur at any point in the game by pressing a certain button, scripting it would be better. Because otherwise, won't you have to have a parallel process event running all the time, on every map to check that that button is being pressed?

common event parallel process.  But checking for button press is problematic as the timing has to be just right.  A script would be more reliable.

Ah, see I was thinking of on input differently than the rest of you (I was thinking of it as when you hit action button on an event that is already there). Yes, Shaz's solution is best, unless you use a script.

Sorry for the necro post, but I solved my problem and wanted to clarify it for others. To make ANY animation happen on a key input you simply just use the conditional branch option and there is a key/input option on the last tab. They can be set up through a common event and parallel process.  It's actually really easy.

Not a necropost - that's 30 days. Kinda sort of technically a double post/early bump. Next time you can just edit your last post to add new info, if it's not been 72 hours.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
