I need help. The game worked just fine until I made a new event. After that, the character you start the game as just started going on his own NO MATTER what map I set the starting position to. Even after deleting the event, it still happens.

Why? Oh and also if I press 'right' on my keyboard he goes up and if I press CTRL he goes left and goes through walls...

Help me!!! My whole game is ruined

Holding CTRL only works during playtesting to make it easier to test your games.

Sounds like you've either remapped your keys, or a hardware issue. Do you have a non-USB connection on your keyboard or mouse, or do you have a game controller plugged in?

Holding CTRL while testing overrides passability and lets you walk through things, so that's not an issue.

Yeah, sounds like a remapping of keys problem... or maybe you have a custom script running that does this?

I didn't remap the keys. But it's true that the wrong keys do the wrong things. The thing is, he walks on his own. That's what it was.

There are three options what could have happened here:

1) an autorun with a moveroute. very unlikely because in the case of an autorun the player would not react to any input.

2) a parallel process with a moveroute. Test if the same happens in a new projects on one of the sample maps without any events - if not, then search for the problematic event in your game.

3) an additional input driver collides with the ace input function, making the game believe you pressed buttons even if you didn't. For example there is at least one graphics tablet which causes this problem, so remove all additional USB devices before testing again.

I made a new project with no events and only 2 maps. I set the starting position randomly and it still walked on his own... :(

Then the problem is not in Ace, but in Windows. Start checking which device or which driver might create those move commands.
In another case they were caused by dirt inside the keyboard (someone had eaten above it without telling the regular user)...

It's not my computer because I shared the game to a friend and it did that on his computer as well.

Load the sample game and check if that happens there as well.

If yes, then you and your friend have the same problem in your Windows, perhaps using the same utility program that changed something in windows?

If Crysalis work correctly, then something damaged the editor and/or base files on your computer, try reinstalling ace and rtp

Can you load up your project so we can take a look at it?

Wait, what?

Right when the game starts, after the narrator and main character talk, he walks off on his own (the player).

I got the friend, retrieved something from his house chest and exited the village, fought a few battles and talked to people, nothing strange happened.

In all likelihood its your computer, or an input device gone haywire. Try the game again on a different friends or a relatives computer. Have you tried playing the game outside of the editor, as in, not through playtesting?

In a one-minute-test there was no problem with the game.

no random movement, no moving on its own in the house or in the village map.

Looks like the problem is on your computer as I believed originally, and your friend probably has the same problematic program installed that you have...

I don't get it. I don't have anything plugged into my laptop via USB or anything of that sort.

There have been previous hardware connected to your laptop though, and those drivers still remain installed.

Whatever current version of Windows you're using, you're going to have to access your device manager, and uninstall all USB ports (mice, keyboards, game controllers, headsets etc.).

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
