Can somebody please get rid of the 420 character limit? I was going to post a nostalgic video game commercial tomorrow but today I wanted to share pictures of my Game Boy Advance SP and the stuff that came with it on my profile. It was less than 420 characters but it kept telling me it exceeded the limit. Somebody please get rid of this limit and increase it to 500 characters instead! ;_;

You've already posted this feedback before, haven't you? Is there a reason you can't add a comment with the additional text right under the profile post?

It's kinda like how people on Twitter know they're about to break character limit so they do 1/2 and 2/2 to signify the thought is comprised of more than one Tweet. You could just finish the message in the comments of the original profile post, no?

I really don't know what is and what is not a limitation of the forum software, though this would definitely be up to the admins and developers.

Yeah but the biggest thing that makes me mad is it was wrong-malfunctioning. I copied all the words in my post into a Word document, and it was WAY less than 420 characters. What the hell?! This makes no sense at all. Sorry if I came off as hostile there, but I've been struggling with this for almost ten minutes. :(

Can't say I've noticed that bug myself. If you can send some screen shots illustrating that bug, we can see to getting that info into the correct hands.

Though, posting the rest of the message in the profile post comments could still pose as a solution. As a very long winded person myself, that's what I'd do.

Sometimes the link counts as characters, where as I don't think it does in Word.

Three pictures were attached. Can that count as characters? If it does, that's strange.

Wait-just a minute-I did upload them directly. That shouldn't have happened!

Actually, it WAS the link the one that caused the issue. I can confirm it because I went through the same situation last night when I posted one of my screenshots on my status.

And yes, it might happen EVEN if you uploaded it directly to the forum's system. (They need to internally convert it to a link anyways.)

Wait so pictures count as links even if you upload them directly? I uploaded the pictures from my flash drive and pasted them into the post. They showed up as images.

It's been noted several times that double posting is against the forum rules, @SpyroFan67

Ugh! Sorry. At least I do it a lot less often than I used to. I'll keep an eye on it, though.

@kyonides Thanks for the feedback. I'll just post each image separately. Thank you for all of your help everyone.

This has been discussed previously in this forum (I was even the example used!).

The character limit is actual characters. If you use any kind of linking functions, it counts the characters in the code used to create that link, not just whatever display text you see on the page.

If that's a link to an external resource, i.e. a URL, that can potentially be very long and over a hundred characters by itself.

The status feed is intentionally limited so that people who might not be interested in your specific post don't have to scroll past an entire thread-sized screen to see the next thing. Treat it like Twitter, not your blog.

And if you're considering posting multiple images, please keep in mind the status feed rules about two posts a day.

@ATT_Turan I was only posting it on my profile, not as a status update.

...there's no such thing? The only way I see to post something on my profile says "Update your status."

If you mean something else, please clarify.

@ATT_Turan Ok you're right. It does say "Update Your Status". That's fine. I'll just post a picture of my Game Boy and the accessories that came with it today, and the carrying case for it tomorrow. No problem. Wanted to share my precious childhood gaming memories with everyone today by showing them the first Game Boy I had.

SpyroFan67, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can use the "Edit" function on your posts to add additional information you've forgotten or respond to multiple people. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

You can also post the other images as comments to the profile post.
