Hi I have been currently fumbling with this for 2 hours on and off, based of william the unpropro's tutorials, but I can't seem to get it right.

I followed the Unpropros tutorial step by step I think located here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPvVth3sSCw, but I don't know what's going wrong.

So, my current goal was to apply lighting on a map, with this in mind I did these steps in order:

-Multiplied my map dimensions by 32 right? because each square or "tile" is equal to 32 pixels right? so 32x30 = 960 width,32x25 = 800 height

-Then, I multipled those numbers by 32 both width and height onto GIMP, I also set the resolution I "think" correctly, to 32wx32h

-Third, I made the lighting which should look like this...

Fourth, I made the event, or attempted to, lol.. god this thing has driven me crazy for the past 2 hours lol!

Finally, I set the opacity to actually see my character because when I set it to 255 I couldn't see my character AT ALL and was blind.. why does it look so off?

You are not supposed to KEEP the map background image when you save your light image. That's just there so you can see where to put the lights. Once you've drawn them, remove the background layer before saving.

The video shows a standard 17x13 map and says larger maps are more difficult. You probably need to look at a parallax or picture locking script. Since Show Picture uses SCREEN coordinates and the picture moves with you as you walk. You're after something that will lock it to the map.

Oh geez, that was dumb of me, lol... Ok, got ya, disable that background layer or remove it once I'm done doing the lighting...

and for the second point, Ah I see thank you.  I guess I shouldn't waste time with this lighting thing until I get the basics down.  I don't know anything about scripting so I might just give up on this for now and work on basic things lol.  In any case, thanks so much for the help!

There are a few lighting scripts, and a few parallax locking scripts. Just do a search through the Master Script List.

Wow thank you!  I had no idea about that thing, but although I think it's amazing, just looking at that stuff kind of overwhelms at the moment. So, I think I should just take it slow doing easier things than try to do advanced eventing.  Requesting a close please, and thanks again!

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
