Dear All,

I'm a newbie and starting to use some of the great plugins provided by the community and have a few questions:

1. Where is one supposed to ask for support on these? For example, Yanfly has a lot of plugins but I don't see an obvious place on his site for bug reports, support requests, questions, and so on.
2. Is there a reason people seem to just put the plugin on dropbox or some web site instead of github? I would think that github would make this more convenient but most plugins seem not to do this.

Thanks.

1) There is a subforum here called "Plugin Support", you can make a new thread there to ask for help about specific plugins

2) Most probably because we've been doing this before github came to be, and as such its easier to just continue using what we were already using than migrating to a new platform. Me for example, all my scripts are in pastebin because that where I started to put them in since years ago, and it works nicely and very easy so why bother to setup github or something else?

1. Yanfly used to have a support thread here for all his plugins, but it became problematic for him for numerous reasons. You can only request support directly from Yanfly if you contribute via *******. For most other plugin creators, if they post their plugins here, you can ask for support right in the thread. If they don't have a thread here, you can find the forum or website where they do provide support and ask for it there, or if you can't find one, post a new thread in Plugin Support here. For people like Olivia who sell their plugins, it might be hard to get support here, because the only people who can help you are others who have also bought the plugin (or got it for free before she went to a paid model).

2. Never used github. Couldn't be bothered setting it up or learning how to use it. Pastebin works for me so that's what I'll keep using.

To be fair, I use Github, but do not follow any best practices with Git like I would at work. Everything is "git push origin master" and I'll commit unfinished work juuuust in case something happens to my local copy. Hell, I make commits with TODOs in them. I don't think I've made a single branch for any of the Plugins I've written - but then, I'm not working on major projects or collaborating with others.

Given the modular, standalone nature and relatively small size for most Plugins, I wouldn't expect version control to really be all that necessary for most people here. As @Engr. Adiktuzmiko said, it's just whatever people are used to. As long as you can get to the raw file or download the raw contents of the file, it's really a non-issue.

Unless people start trying to open pull requests against my Plugins, I start collaborating with other people, or I'm planning to include my hobby work in a professional portfolio, I wouldn't say Github is better than any other platform.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the informative and quick replies.

That's very helpful.

I guess I will post plugins I make to github but make sure to provide an easy download link for people in here. Good to know.
