@MissileI can't argue with that, so fair enough. I guess I was hoping it would be Brazil a bit too much.

Part of me really wants to pick Rowlet solely for the purposes of naming it JK

@Missile: Well, there's the proof~ I'm actually really glad they did Hawaii (Now Zygarde 100% actually looks like it can relate)

Am I the only one thinking that Rowlet might be a pun on Roulette? They sound kind of similar, also...  I remember someone mentioning they look like a circus trio, Rowlet being the ring leader, Popplio the show seal and Litten the flashy act, hoops of fire, etc. So if that is the case, I'm guessing Water/ Fairy for Popplio. Though Water/ Fighting would be welcome. I'm interested to see what the legend trio are going to be. We have birds, cats, golems, spirits, musketeers and Genies.

I'm not really a fan of Popplio, and when I first saw Rowlet, I thought it was supposed to be a kiwi... Why didn't they do that!? A pokemon that's a cross between a kiwi bird and a kiwi fruit! It would have been awesome. Sigh... Oh well. I'm going to wait before I make my final choice, but just based on first impressions, I think I'm going with Rowlet. I'm still disappointed that it's not a kiwi, but an adorable owl in a bowtie? How can you not want one? Also, predictions. Litten will evolve into a Fire/Dark based off of a tiger, Popplio will evolve into a Water/Psychic or Water/Fairy, and Rowlet will stay Grass/Flying throughout its entire evolutionary line. There will also be a Fire/Grass pokemon, though this one may be wishful thinking on my part, and at least one Pokemon based off of a tiki.

I'm a little surprised the sun legendary is a lion, seeing as lions have nothing to do with Hawaii.  (Okay, the kalos trio were based on Norse mythology, not French, but it's close-ish.)

Also, Rowlett, given the bowtie, might be grass/psychic, like a magician.  (though a ringleader could be psychic, too).  Popplio might end up a water/fighting clown, and Litten a fire/dark acrobat.

That's assuming there really is a circus theme. XY was really the only one with a theme to the starters, the RPG thing fitting the European setting.  Popplio has the clownish collar, but that's really about it.  Rowlett does have the bowtie, but that could go just about anywhere--butler, magician, scientist, spy, etc.  And even Popplio doesn't necessarily have a clown theme.  They might just make it into a trickster of some kind, and end up modeling it on a selkie or mermaid, or something.  And as for Litten...  Who knows?

I want a Ghost/Rock type floating Tiki Head. That would be amazing.

Mind you, a tiki pokemon could be kind of offensive.

Considering most people thought that Jynx was offensive I don't think they'll go with a tiki Pokemon. Though I can see us getting another shark though (the Nanaue).

Quick question, Did anybody ever pick a grass starter?

They always looks so lame in comparison to the cool (water) and hot (fire) pokemon.

Yeah.  I've never picked water starters though.  Water starters have always looked really stupid to me.  Though, when I buy every version, I do pick the water starter if there's a third version in the set (like Emerald... Crystal... Platinum...), though it may not be for the third game in the set.

My main games have been like this, however.

    Red - Charmander

    Blue - Bulbasaur

Yellow - Pikachu (of course, only option you get)

    Silver - Cyndaquil

    Crystal - Chikorita

    Ruby - Treeko

    Emerald - Torchic

    Leaf Green - Bulbasaur

    Diamond - Turtwig

    Platinum - Chimchar

    Heart Gold - Cyndaquil

    White - Snivy

    White 2 - Oshawott

    X - Fennekin

(and if I get the new versions...)

    Sun - Litten

I don't own the remakes of RSE because I didn't like the originals, so I don't have their starters.

My off games that I play for completion and for trading to myself have been like this:

    Gold - Totodile

    Sapphire - Mudkip

    Fire Red 1 - Charmander

    Fire Red 2 - Squirtle

    Pearl - Piplup

    Soul Silver - Cyndaquil

    Black - Tepig

    Black 2 - Snivy

    Y - Froakie

(and if I get the new versions...)

    Moon - Rowlett

Maybe someday, eventually, I'll pick up cheap versions of the RSE remakes...  But, I'll probably pick Treeko and Torchic again.

Hold on, there.  Don't sass the grass.

I almost always choose the grass starter.  Bulbasaur, Chicorita, Treecko, Turtwig, Snivy, Chespin--in fact I think I've only ever chosen the non grass starters in off games, like Tai mentioned.  Though both Frokie and Oshawott made it a tough choice.

My fondness for each of the starters were pretty balanced but I have noticed I do show more preference to grass starters. For my FIRST runs for each of the games, my choices for each generation were:

    Bulbasaur

    Cyndaquil

    Mudkip

    Piplup

    Snivy

    Chespin

    Rowlett

Even after playing the games multiple times I really only swap between Cyndaquil/ Chikorita and Piplup/ Tutwig. So yeah, I guess I favour Grass types.

GRASS KICKS... umm... butt? But seriously, don't diss the grass. While I do have a fairly even distribution among the starter types, I can't think of a starter that I wouldn't pick. I can't remember my first choices for each of the games, but I'll try.

First time in Kanto I chose Charmander. Now I usually swap between Squirtle and Bulbasaur.

    Cyndaquil. Always Cyndaquil.

I can't really remember my Hoenn starter. I think it was Treecko.

I'm pretty sure I chose Chimchar as my first Sinnoh starter, but now my favorite is Turtwig.

For Unova my choice will always be Oshawott.

And my choice for Kalos was Chespin, and I made sure that I got a Froakie soon after.

Once Sun and Moon come out, I think I'll be picking Rowlet. However, Popplio's design has grown on me. In the end, I need to see their evolutions.

I've played each generation so many times that I've used all the starters, but almost always chose the grass or water starter the first time around. I'm a total plant lady so there is a bit of connection there!

    Gen 1: Bulbasaur

    Gen 2: Chikorita

    Gen 3: Treeko

    Gen 4: Piplup

    Gen 5: Oshawott

Gen 6: Fennekin (first time I ever did my initial play with the fire type; it's too cute!)

For Gen 7 I'm totally feeling the Rowlet love.

I love fire types, but I somehow end up with water types. I always pick based on cuteness... but my favorite is mudkip. Guess I like big buff cream puffs!

    1. Charmander

    2. Cyndaquil

    3. mudkip

    4. Piplup

    5. Oshawott

I don't really know why Popplio is getting so much hate on the internet.  I think it looks pretty cute (maybe not owl cute, but still) and seems like it might have some potential.  More and more, I'm thinking it's going to be a Water/Fairy or Water/Psychic, given what's been leaked about it of its 'dex entry.

Also--has anyone received their newsletter with the codes for the Kanto bird trio?  I still haven't received mine.

I thought popplio seemed goofy. But he's growing on me! I actually prefer him to some of the previous generations.

Can't beat cute fluffy owl though. All my favorites are fluffy and adorable.

To me, both Popplio and Litten have that "designed by a 12-year-old" look to them.  But, then, Oshawaott looked kinda doofy, too, and I love the little guy.

We need a dark and steel type shaped in a kitchen knife called "Dark Edge".
