Ehhhh....feels like a stretch, though.  Sure birds eat seeds.  They also drink water, eat small mammals and swallow rocks to grind up food in their gullet.

But trees provide shelter for birds, and most plants are flexible enough to survive high winds.  Even if Grass didn't resist Flying, it really ought to be neutral.

Grass really ought to resist Psychic, though.  Surely a plant's mind would be too alien for a psychic to invade, right?  And there's lots of folkloric instances of things like herbs and plants and wooden stakes being effective against demons, spirits and the undead.

And as for Ice, these creatures exude cold and project beams of freezing energy.  Except for Scald, water attacks shouldn't have much effect.  Similarly, Ice should be supereffective against Water.

I still don't understand Fighting's weakness to Flying, either.  The most I've ever heard was "Ever try to punch a bird?"

There are a lot of problems with the type chart. A lot of it is a hot mess. Like how Steel should be weak to Water and Poison (especially if we're lead to believe that it's very acidic). In fact I think Poison should be effective to more types than Grass and Fairy. Ground and Poison should be reversed if we think about it's effect on the environment. Why Fighting and Bug resist each other I'll never understand, plus Normal I think should be super effective to at least something, having no edge to ANYTHING is more of disadvantage rather than being "normal".

I think there are eight gyms in my town in Pokemon Go. We should declare ourselves a region now.

The matagame is not dead yet,

Snorlax has Immunity (wich this specifies "all pokemon types" but not "all pokemon inmune to poison") Also Komala has comatose, wich may prevet toxic corroption.

Pokemons with rest sets are also immune to this tactic.

The pokemon types were desgined like a traditional rpg in mind.

That's why there are:

The neutral type (normal)

Basic tier type elements (grass, fire, water, flying, earth, electric, )

"Utility" elements wich has specific use (bug, poison, ice, rock)

Advance "magic types" (psychic, ghost, fighting)

An "ultimate element" wich resist the basic types (Dragon)

You can extrapolate the type chart, to another kind of traditional rpg and you'll find:

Neutral types (the plain good ol' attack command, some skills may be here too)

Basic tier elements (ice, fire and lightning in MOST rpgs)

Utility elements (water, earth and wind in final fantasy, they are really specific sometimes, like Quake or Aero wich works good on not many cases)

Advance magics (Holy & Dark)

Ultimate element (Sometimes non-elemental takes both the most basic and the top, but you could count Almighty from SMT series as Dragon in pokemon)

The problem with the chart is that it never had competitive play in mind, that's why on each generation it always has a type wich dominates the metagame (nowdays it was fairy)

But they tried to do minor adjustments to types on last generation. And now almost all types have a good use (even types like bug, wich 20 years later was entirely useless except for maybe Scyther?)

So, there really doesn't seem to be any regional/environment zones for pokemon.  While I mostly find rattattaand pidgey around my house, I found magikarp and horsea in the middle of target, with no water nearby.  Though, gastly seems to be mostly nocturnal.

...Or maybe it's a Pokefan's dead kid... who is now a Pokémon... still wearing his Pikachu costume...  Remember those trainers?  The Pokefans?  Who had their kids with them?  Always dressed up like Pikachus?

I like the literal Pika-clone, but let's forget that abomination of a bear Pokemon does not exist for our own good and the greater good. Easily my least favorite Pokemon to date.

which bear are you talking about?  Ursaring?  Beartic?  Pangoro?  They all seem pretty awesome to me.

My guess is that spooky pikadoll pokemon is some kind of snatching ghost.  Like, it wears different objects to lure people in and then CHOMP.

Hey no, it's not a dead kid (this time) At least the pokedex says it's not...

I didn't like the bear, UNTIL I started to see some fanarts from it:

Also, it's not a bear, it's a panda, a red panda :p

What?  That big panda looks freaking ADORBABLEOMGMUSTHUG!!!!

And I think Zigzagoon and Linoone are based on the tanuki and badger, respectively, but without the youkai lore.

Also, sex toy?  What?? I...I don't... what???

I've finally started playing Pokemon Go. There are a lot of Ground and Fire types around my town. Also, what team is everyone on? I'm Team Mystic. All hail the might of the mind!

EDIT: Also, has anyone caught any Gastlys? I've looked around, and I can't find any. I've even looked around the cemeteries at night. I met this nice lady in white, but no Gastlys. Sigh.

Even with all of the Pokemon Go hype, there's still a lot of marketing focus for Sun/Moon

Anyways, new Pokemon along with translated descriptions with the ones from Corocoro. Some hits, some misses, or maybe you might hate or like them all, let's go.

Wimpod have a cowardly nature and are wary of noises and sudden movements. If you approach them in a group, they’ll immediately run off. When Wimpod feel threatened, they spit out a poisonous liquid. The stench of this toxic fluid signals others that danger is near. Despite their extreme cowardice, their curiosity leads Wimpod to approach people or Pokémon that are standing still.
Wimpod eat and store anything that they find fallen on the ground. They also scavenge any garbage that’s been dropped in the sea, so they’re highly valued as cleaners. They sometimes carry pearls or other valuable items, so humans or Pokémon like Murkrow may target them.
Wimpod has the new Wimp Out Ability, an Ability that no other Pokémon has had before. With the Wimp Out Ability, if this Pokémon’s HP drops below half in battle, it will run away or swap out for another Pokémon.

Mimikyu lives its life completely covered by its cloth and is always hidden. People believe that anybody who sees its true form beneath the cloth will be stricken with a mysterious illness. People in the Alola region are convinced that you must never try to peek beneath its covering. Mimikyu’s health fails when it’s bathed in the rays of the sun, so it prefers to stick to dark places. It’s rumored that the reason it covers itself with a cloth is to avoid sunlight.
The rising popularity of Pikachu-styled merchandise around 20 years ago is the reason that Mimikyu makes itself look like Pikachu. In fact, this Pokémon is dreadfully lonely, and it thought it would be able to make friends with humans if only it looked like Pikachu.
Mimikyu has the Disguise Ability, a new Ability that no Pokémon has ever before possessed. The Disguise Ability allows it to escape damage from an enemy’s attack just one time, and then its appearance changes.

Mimikyu’s Pikachu-like appearance is due to its Disguise Ability. In order to resemble Pikachu, this Pokémon makes patterns that look like eyes and a mouth appear on a regular scrap of cloth

Mudsdale is known for its powerful body as well as its emotional fortitude, which keeps it from being agitated by anything. It never cries out, no matter what kind of trouble it’s in, and it defeats its opponents with a single powerful blow. Its legs are coated in protective mud, and the weight of this coating increases the force of its kicks. One kick, and a car is a pile of scrap!
Mudsdale’s running speed is not too swift, but it has excellent power and stamina. It can carry on for three days and three nights despite dragging loads of over 10 tons!
When Mudsdale gallops in earnest, the power of each hoof-clop can dig out huge holes, even in asphalt. Mudsdale is forbidden to run on some of Alola’s public roads.
Mudsdale can have the new Stamina Ability, an Ability that no other Pokémon has had before. With the Stamina Ability, this Pokémon’s Defense goes up by 1 when it’s hit by an attack.

Comfey picks flowers and always carries them around. It makes a ring of blossoms and spreads oil from its body on it, which changes the flowers so they emit a soothing fragrance. It has a habit of giving these flower rings to those it’s fond of. The aroma can soothe both itself and its allies. Comfey also helps with the treatment of people and Pokémon at Pokémon Centers and hospitals, thanks to its aroma.
When attacked by other Pokémon, it throws its flowers at them to create an opening, and then it either flees or strikes back.
Comfey can have the new Triage Ability, an Ability that no other Pokémon has had before. With the Triage Ability, this Pokémon’s restorative moves gain the highest priority in battle.

When Bewear is acting in a friendly fashion, just swinging its arms around, you must never dare to approach it carelessly. It is acknowledged to be a dangerous Pokémon, even within the Alola region. You may see warning signs posted near places it resides.

When Bewear grows fond of its Trainer, it may show that feeling in a fond embrace—but the force of that hug is tremendous! Trainers must teach these Pokémon how to restrain their strength when showing affection.
Bewear may have the Fluffy Ability, a new Ability that no Pokémon has ever possessed before. The Fluffy Ability halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves.

Because it exudes a delicious smell from its entire body, Bounsweet is popular with Pokémon and people of the Alola region. Bounsweet’s scent has a calming effect on humans, so many people let them live inside their homes as a sort of air freshener. Unfortunately, it’s sometimes swallowed whole by Pokémon drawn to its aroma.
When running away from other Pokémon, Bounsweet flees danger by skipping along the ground. Since its bouncy movements don’t convey to others that it’s actually in desperate flight, no one ever comes to its aid.
When attacked by enemies, it drives them off by rotating the calyx on its head. The downside is how dizzy it gets afterward!

They're going to reveal all the Pokemon before the game releases just like they did with X+Y, aren't they? It also doesn't seem like old pokemon are going to get normal evolutions, but it could still be early days.
