Already OR/AS is looking leagues better than X/Y. I'm excited for this!

e: About Slaking-

That Pokemon was designed for a time when the stupid power creep that happened around Gen 5 wasn't an issue. Back then, having 150 HP, 160 Attack, and 100 Def all in one package for a non-legendary Poke was... Godly. Not to mention, it had a better movepool in gen 3, because typing wasn't dependent on the moves themselves, but their element type. Slaking can use SHADOW BALL (Ghost was a physical type, so it was viable), and lets not forget that good fighting moves didn't really come into fruition until Gen 4. Without some hindrance, counterplaying that monster would have been immensely difficult, considering it's both tanky as balls for the power level of Pokemon back then and it hits like a truck. Heck, even with truant, that thing was still a pain in the ass to deal with for Norman's gym, just imagine if it didn't have truant.

The problem here, obviously, is that it hasn't aged well. We now have close combat and iron fist Conkeldurrs to faceroll any normal type, and Mega evolutions, in their insta-win cannon nature, completely undermine anything Slaking stands for. The redefining of physical/special moves also gave it a bit of a blow, since it has to resort to stuff like Shadow Claw and Night Slash, both having a mediocre base power, to deal with ghost types. It doesn't even get Payback. So yeah... That's at least what I can deduce as to why Slaking is the way it is.

Archeops is in a better position by comparison. At least when given the chance and addressing its chief counters through good team-building, there is arguably nothing that'll stop it from sweeping entire teams. I know this, because I've been one of its victims at one point. X_X

They'll more than likely impose a level cap like they do with general online battles... At least that'd be the smart thing to do.

Well... knowing Nintendo and online communications...

Seriously though, you're probably right. But I have a feeling this gym thing is going to be local/streetpass wireless than online.

Okay, so I have a weird question...

How exactly does Breeding moves onto Pokémon work?  I read that it only transfers the moves of the Male Pokémon, but what you get in the Egg is the same species as the Female Pokémon.

Here's what I'm wondering:

Is it possible to get a Tyrantrum with Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Thunder Fang, and Poison Fang all on him at once?  If so, how?  For the life of me, I can't figure it out.

Also, no, I don't care that having a Tyrantrum with that moveset wouldn't be good for competitive play.  I just like the idea of having one with all those moves is all.

Well, for starters, make sure the move is transferable. Check serebii for 'Egg moves'. That means that they can be given the move via breeding.

http://serebii.net/pokedex-xy/egg/696.shtml

It is possible to get that moveset according to this list. Now, check the pokemon listed beside each attack. Those are pokemon that can already learn said move and should be used as a parent when breeding. Right now, i see Tyranitar is a perfect starting candidate. He can get Thunder/Fire/Ice Fang by himself, so grab them all and start breeding. Once you have those on your Tyrunt, try breeding with a seviper next for that poison fang. It make take some tries, but eventually you can get it.

But, isn't it only the male who can transfer the moves?  So, I breed the Tyranitar with the female Tyrunt and get a male Tyrunt with the three moves from him.  Then how would I create a Tyrunt with Poison Fang as well, if it comes from a different mon and females can't transfer moves?  I'd be stuck with a Tyrantrum with 3 of the moves and another with one of the moves and no way to get them all together.  How on earth does that work, exactly?

Breed the male Tyranitar with the female Tyrunt and aim for a FEMALE Tyrunt with the three moves. Then breed that female Tyrunt with the Fire/Ice/Thunder Fangs with a male Seviper to get Poison Fang.

If I understand where you're getting confused, do you think that the OFFSPRING needs to be male in order to get the Egg Moves? If so, that's not correct. The male PARENT is the one that can pass the moves down, regardless of the offspring's gender.

No, I'm getting confused on the point that the Male Parent is the one who passes the moves down.  So, even if you had a female with all three moves, they wouldn't be passed down because the Male is the one who passes the moves down, not the female.  The way I understand it, you're essentially putting 3 moves onto a single Pokémon (the female) and then when you breed a male with her, it'll reset the moves as the ones from the female won't be passed down and only the ones from the male will be.

Not 100% true, no matter what someone says. The female DOES have a chance to pass down egg moves, albeit a VERY small chance. I have had females pass down moves maybe once in every 20 times or so, and I feel that is on the lucky side. But yeah, male needs the moves.

OK so I looked this up in more detail on Bulbapedia (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Egg_move) and as it turns out, they've changed things for Gen VI (haha). So before Gen VI, only the male could pass down Egg Moves, but they've since simplified things by now allowing BOTH parents to pass down Egg Moves.

Now, I'm not 100% sure if it's actually possible to get all four Fang moves on Tyrantrum. Just because they are all available through Egg Moves, doesn't mean they can all be learned on the same Pokemon. What I mean, is, to get all four of those Egg Moves, you need the SAME parent to have access to all four of those moves. Because I think it will be just as Tai_MT is getting at: Once you get your Tyrunt with Fire/Thunder/Ice Fang, and then breed him with Seviper, I think he'd LOSE those three fang moves because Tyrunt itself doesn't learn them through Level Ups or Egg Moves. So he'd get just the Poison Fang Someone correct me if my understanding is wrong but this is what the bulbapedia article seems to indicate. This is the section in particular that makes me think this is correct:

Prior to Generation VI, all methods of learning Egg moves required the father to know the move prior to breeding, which made certain combinations of moves impossible to possess; for example, Tentacruel can learn both Rapid Spin and Mirror Coat as Egg moves, but no Pokémon in the Water 3 Egg Group can possess both moves at the same time prior to Generation VI (since Tentacool and Tentacruel now can).
The bolded part is key. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what they are getting at though?

Ha ha, now I've even got the Expert Breeders and Competitive Players all confused on the subject.

So, I guess my dreams of having Elemental Fangs on Tyrantrum (which would gain the boosted damage because of his ability) are all lost?
