yeah... as I said, the bulbasaur pick was for the first three gyms, mainly because that's the point where your pokemons aren't that yet diverse... by that time of misty and surge, you would have probably flying, bug types, normal types and ground types...

so if you took charmander, you can get into trouble for the first two gyms, specially the second gym... now taking squirtle, you can breeze thru brock, go on par with misty, and luckily you should have a ground type by surge... so squirtle is quite a good choice for the early-game... but wait, there's one more, bulbasaur... bulbasaur is strong agaisnt brock and misty, and in case you failed to catch a ground type before reaching surge, then you have no problem too if you use bulbasaur...

for the fourth gym and so on, it doesn't really seem to matter anymore because you would probably have more pokemon choices by that time, and hopefully your dream team is starting to form by now...

but if you have at least another device and another game, then of course, you can opt to have all starters... simply use the other device and game as a means to pick another starter, then trade it to the main game when you can, then start another new game to get the third starter...

Charizard being troublesome? Just catch a Mankey or Nidoran. Made both Yellow and Red a breeze in the long run.

And where would you get a mankey before the second gym? and no, charizard is not troublesome, I said charmander... As I said it's only for early game period, mid to late game, starters won't really matter that much anymore since you should already have lots of pokemon by that time...

In yellow, you go left of Viridian City towards the Pokémon league.  You can get leveled mons you don't usually have access to there.  In red and blue it's usually the Nidorans and a Spearow.  In Yellow, it's a Mankey and Spearow.

Er...still, same evo line. I'm not really detailing anything...and Charizard only works against like two of the elite four anyway...merp.

They're like level 5 or 6...max.

Oh, and Nidoran's in like all of them. Plus MOON STONES EVERYWHERE.

Maybe one or two levels above what's in the route just before Viridian City.  It's not much.  But, it makes it worth travelling on that route for those mons.

I really don't worry too much about catching Pokemon early on in the game, I regret it shortly after when I have trouble keeping up with the levels.

Surprisingly, though, even though Bulbasaur has an advantage with the first few gyms, it has the lowest base stats out of all the starters (not by much, but enough to make a difference), so I normally don't chose it, even though it evolves slightly early.

I tend to pick Charmander (like so many other people >.>) and catch a Metapod or Caterpie in Viridian forest. it gives a somewhat-good edge with Brock and Misty with sleep poweder and confusion (sleep poweder was slightly better in gen 1 since it lasted an extra turn).

Er...still, same evo line. I'm not really detailing anything...and Charizard only works against like two of the elite four anyway...merp.
Fire works well on Lorelei, Flying on Bruno (except his Onix), Agatha isn't as hard as the others for me though.

Lance is brutal, Gyarados crushes fire, so does Aerodactyl, his dragon types are also tough since Ice and Dragon type Pokemon are scarce back in gen 1, solution? Mega Charzard or Clefairy if they ever do another remake of Gen 1, seriously though, I like to spam fly.

Gen 1 was easily broken though. Want a few pokemon to carry you through the entire game alone? Grab an Alakazam, Dragonite, Blastoise/Lapras, Charizard/Arcanine, and/or Gengar. Then just watch your team never face a challenge again.

In Gen 1 my team was Charizard, Raichu, Lapras, Alakazam, Golem, and Gengar.  In my second runthrough it was Venusaur, Lapras, Pidgeot, Alakazam, Ninetails, and Golem.

Keep in mind, this is what I ran before beating the Elite Four.  After them, I ran Mewtwo in place of Alakazam.

Of course you did.  It's like replacing Apollo Creed with post-Rocky III Rocky Balboa.  One is simply better than the other.

From my experience, grass starters are all like strong at first, then at mid-late game they look so weak...

My favorite team was still the three starters + pikachu + mewtwo

during the time that I have no means to get all starters, I simply use the 3 legendary birds...

I like to think that the three starters embody a Japanese interpretation of the three basic approaches to roleplaying:  the wizard, the thief, and the warrior.

The warrior's philosophy in combat is to endure while dealing steady damage (Squirtle)

The thief wants to hit hard and fast, but avoid being hit himself (Charmander)

The wizard is skilled, providing uncommon and unique means of defeating the opponent (Bulbasaur)

Or I could be looking too far into it.  The Gen I games were not very well balanced at all.

for gen I and II, I just have a definite team and once it's complete, the game is just easy... for gen III, well I needed to switch teams every sometime while I was on Battle Frontier... plus the battle tents that rent out pokemon is a nice way to make you explore different pokemons...

Well, there really should be a fourth section for shiny colors that make you wish you were colorblind. Like Shiny Crobat, Dragonite, so on. I dont know who picks shiny colors up at gamefreak, but wtf guys?

Also, pop-quiz... I am going to show three different pokemon, each with both a shiny and non shiny form, and I want you to tell me which one is which. Tell me whether a or b is shiny.

Pokemon 1 - Dewgong

( A )

( B )

Pokemon 2 - Igglybuff

( A )

( B )

Pokemon 3 - Garchomp

( A )

( B )

The sad thing is that Igglybuff's shiny used to be a mandarin orange colour...

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
