that sounds like a good idea, might do that instead :)

Edit: we decided to be each other's "Gary/blue" by beating a gym then not going any further until we battled. That way we keep each other honest, no ridiculous grinding, and obviously keeping it interesting by switching up Pokemon here and there. Gonna be fun :) thanks for the input.

That sounds fun. Keep us updated on how that works out. :)

On another note, this... https://www.facebook.com/thepokecorner

Just made it, am going to pretty it up right away. So expect it to look more legit very soon, lol. I plan on using this to give updates and everything as we will soon be having our own events. This way, we can grow our little community.

You're welcome :) I've always wanted to do something like that just don't have two copies. Or someone else who has the same time schedules as I do. Have fun :)

I'm officially your second 'like'. I'm not expecting anything too big from this, but if you keep it updated it may be more popular than this thread itself for all we know.

Well, I certainly plan on updating things there often. In fact, I hopefully will be able to recruit a staff member or two to help manage the page and populate it with new content.

On that note...

I will be taking applications to become Pokemon Corner official staff. This means working with our facebook page to help provide new content. I have a few different jobs open.

Content Creator - Essentially, this is kind of the same as a reporter. This job doesn't require much in terms of keeping the peace or such, but more focuses on bringing cool new content to the page. Whether it be reporting on TPP progress, writing a quick article on a competitive strategy, or reporting on official Nintendo announcement, what you write is up to you. You are only shooting to give people something new and cool to look at or read. Maybe throw in cool fan artworks, Show off impressive fan games, or whatever you find brings in viewers. (up to three people)

Moderator - Your main job as a Mod is to be the law on the page. Keep the peace. You know the rules of the page and you will be able to handle small to medium problems as they rise. Large scale problems generally get handed over to the administration unless you have permission to handle it. You will have the power to enforce the rules as you see fit, but respect the rules yourself. No one person is bigger than the community and any power given can be taken away at the consent of the community. (only one position open currently)

To apply for these, I mainly ask that you have a decent amount of previous activity here in the Corner before you ask for a staff position. I will not require any position to be a full time engagement, so dont worry about needing to be 100% active 24/7. I just ask you report to the facebook page every so often as you see fit. I will hand pick Content Creators from the apps I get, and the mod position will go to whom I truly believe has the community in best interest. For Content Creators, your chances would go up if you could let me in on what you would plan on contributing to the community.

Anyways, if you want in, post here.

On another note, I mentioned a few posts back that we could soon have a youtube where we will have things like lets plays, tutorials, and battle videos. Well, I went ahead and did the first episode on the battle videos as kind of a proof of concept type deal. This isn't a 100% agreed on design for how these videos will happen, but this is the general concept. As battle videos sometimes tend to get a bit boring as you wait for the players to slowly chip away at their opponent's health, I added a few extra things to help keep attentions. Throughout the video, you get little snippets of information like Pokedex entries, the origins of pokemon names, some pokemon trivia, and even a funny/cute picture or two to go along with things.

Note, this is just the battle video setup. The overall plan is to have a few different running series on the channel (battles, lets plays, commentaries), each with their own look and setup.

However, as these each will be a continuous series, I want to come up with a decent name for each one...

For the battle series, I have thought of "PokeCorner Rumbles", "Late Night Brawls", and "P.C. Fisticuffs". Lol, yes the last one is more for laughs, but it could work.

Any ideas from you guys?

What exactly is twitch? I've heard of it, but I have no idea what it is. Never mind, I found out. Seems like something that would be easy to troll.

Dangerously so. MwahahahaHAHAHAHAAA.

Twitch isn't just pokemon though, remember that. They are a very large streaming service that mainly deals in video games, but TPP is probably one of their biggest impacting events so far, admittedly.

Idk if you guys remember, but I posted that my friend and I would be engaging in an old school pokemon red battles as each other's gary after every gym fight. Well, we both just got our copies of pokemon red in from amazon and the war has begun! Now for the most emotional decision of my younger years....squirtle, charmander, or bulbasaur.... haha. So here is the team that I'm thinking about aiming for:

Starmie, Rhydon, Tauros, Snorlax, Jolteon, Execcutor

Side: Chansey, Gengar, Dragonite

Where's Alakazam and Mewtwo?! I don't like those pokemon. I mean they were awesome my first few playthroughs, but they got old. Now I shall dedicate my life to defeating them. Jolteon's pin missile, Tauros' Hyper Beam or Double-Edge, etc should do the trick. Pretty sure he will have those psychic pokemon so I need to make sure to be able to counter them, thus the Snorlax and possibly the Chansey. Thoughts?

Personally my favorite pokemon are poison types....too bad they blow in this version due to psychic types being able to defeat them via an accidental sneeze lol

Three stone evolutions and a trade evolution...  Are you guys trading to get the higher evolutions?  As in...  To evolve Graveler, Machoke, Kadabra, and Haunter?  Got anybody with Roar/Whirlwind?  I know this may sound weird since I don't play (or even aim to play) competitively, but shouldn't you at least have a mon that can control the field some?  If you know he's going to have one of the OP Psychic Types in the first gen, shouldn't you have something to send it back into his party everytime he tries to use it so that you can use more of your mons to whittle it down if it comes to that?  I mean, especially if his Alakazam or Mewtwo get to be really high levels with ridiculous stats...  You're going to want something that either one shots them, or something that can keep 'em on the bench as long as possible so you can keep most of your mons in order to battle it at the end (it's how I usually defeated people who used Mewtwo, anyway).

But, I don't really know all that much about competitive play, so maybe I'm an idiot?

Since we have the cable, we'll probably do the trade evolutions. Controlling the field, eh? I can't remember....do roar/whirlwind work in trainer battles during first gen? I vaguely remember them not being effective but maybe i'm wrong lol

Btw, just started. Sporting a bulbasaur...that first selection between squirtle, charmander, & bulbasaur is always the hardest emotional decision you make during the game imo lol i'm pretty sure he's sporting a squirtle but we shall see after we take down Brock. So the rules are as follows: The pokemon that we use to fight each other until after the elite four cannot exceed the level of the current gym's highest level pokemon. So since we are currently on Brock, that means that our pokemon can't be higher than level 14. This is to stop either of us from having a blastoise or a venasaur before fighting Brock lol If the thread doesn't mind, I'll be posting updates of the battles with lineups and recaps of how battles went. Feel free to comment, critique, etc :)

Isn't Wailord usually with a Skitty?  You should be able to find him if you can find Skitty first!

EDIT:  FOURTH BADGE DOWN!!!!!  Whooooooo!!!!  Onward to Route 13!  Oh, it's actually nice having money for Pokeballs too!

Welp.  I'm at the 5th gym right now.  Finally made my way there (thankfully the last few routes didn't have any Rare mons to capture on them, so they were easily cleared).  I've almost assembled my entire team, except I'm going to have to trade for one of the mons I need to round out my team since it's not available in X and Y.

Here's my team:

Braixen

Doublade

Tyrantrum

Lapras

Crobat

The one I need is Joltik.  That should round out my team nicely and be a bunch of mons I've never really used before (mostly types I've never used before).  Yeah, I decided that since Grass types don't really have any good secondary types that aren't insanely common (Poison, Ground, Fighting, Ice, Dark, etcetera) I'd just go with an electric type.  I decided on Joltik 'cause I've never used a Bug Type in the games before.  Well... beyond simply evolving Butterfree and trading it out for Abra the first chance I got (Butterfree learns Confusion but isn't psychic...  so... Abra gets to be the Psychic type in those games).  Also, once Doublade learns its last attack, I'll hit it with the stone to evolve it.  After that, should be an interesting romp through the Elite Four!

Tai, That sounds really cool. Your team should stomp the Elite 4, I have faith in you. Make sure to come back and let us know how you do. :)

So, I need something from you guys. Bring your mind back to generation one and think of Red and Blue Versions. Now, think of the gym leaders and choose new pokemon for them.

What is this for? Well, On our YouTube channel, I will soon be doing a Let's Play of Pokemon Red, but it wont be the normal version of the game. I plan on editing the game around to include members of the Pokemon Corner as Gym Leaders, Elite 4 members, and even normal trainers. Why would I do this? Anybody can do a lets play of Pokemon Red (I mean, Twitch just did it live with thousands of people playing at once), so I thought that we could make it a bit more personal while also bringing new challenges to the game. So what I would like is for our members to give ideas for gym leaders. I will look through each idea and choose my favorites for each gym. If your idea gets picked, that gym will get the lineup that you chose and the gym leader's name will your own (for example, if I said I wanted the first gym, normal type with Clefairy and Clefable, then the leader's name would be Hyde and he would have the two pokemon I chose). So go ahead and give me your ideas for whatever gym you would like (can give an idea for one gym, can give ideas for every gym and Elite Four member, do as many as you want; I will choose each gym out of all possible ideas given).

Now, this will have some rules though...

  • Names and pokemon will be changed, but trainer art will not, so dont expect a change in trainer gender. If you want, give an alternative name for the leader if you dont want a Woman named Bill or a Man named Sandra.
  • Please refrain from just putting all of your favorite pokemon (unless they all have the same type). Remember that gyms do have themes/types, and that concept will still be followed.
  • Multi-Typed gyms can be done, but please limit types to two at most per gym.
  • Steel and Dark types can possibly be added into the game if demanded for a theme. This is not a promise though. (Dont ask for fairy unless I further state otherwise)
  • Remember that gyms do have to go in order with their levels, so please dont ask for a Dragonite and/or Rhydon on the first badge. (See list below for further guidelines)
  • The number of pokemon a gym will have will still be equal to that which the gym normally has in the vanilla game (If Brock has two pokemon normally, than the first gym will still be limited to two pokemon)(This is not by choice, this is because of ROM memory problems)(See list below for further guidelines)
  • Legendary Birds are not allowed in Gyms, Mewtwo and Mew are not allowed at all. For obvious reasons, Missingno. also is not allowed at all.
  • Do not request normal trainers. Once all leaders and E4 are picked, some extra ideas will be implemented as normal trainers around the map, but at my discretion.
  • All rules and regulations are subject to change as I see the need.

Further Guidelines

This list will give the guidelines that will be followed when making new gyms. Information goes as follows: Gym Number, Number of Pokemon, Level Range, and Trainer Art. Level Range is based off of the normal vanilla gyms, but is widened to give you more room to interpret your ideas. When you put in your ideas, please refer to each gym by gym number. When you list the pokemon you want, make sure to state their level as well. If you put in an idea, please also give the name that you would like the leader to be referred to. If you do not give a name, a version of your username will be used (I.E. Tai_MT would be named as just Tai, or hyde9318 would be named as just Hyde; this is to keep the username, but make it sound more like a person's name).

Gym Number - Number of Pokemon - Level Range - Trainer Art

Gym #1 - Two Pokemon - Lv.10-15 - Brock

Gym #2 - Two Pokemon - Lv.15-22 - Misty

Gym #3 - Three Pokemon - Lv.18-25 - Lt. Surge

Gym #4 - Three Pokemon - Lv.22-30 - Erika

Gym #5 - Four Pokemon - Lv.35-45 - Koga

Gym #6 - Four Pokemon - Lv.35-45 - Sabrina

Gym #7 - Four Pokemon - Lv.40-48 - Blaine

Gym #8 - Five Pokemon - Lv.42-52 - Giovanni

E4 #1 - Five Pokemon - Lv.52-56 - Lorelei

E4 #2 - Five Pokemon - Lv.52-58 - Bruno

E4 #3 - Five Pokemon - Lv.55-60 - Agatha

E4 #4 - Five Pokemon - Lv.56-62 - Lance
As for the Let's Play itself, I will probably do an episode for each story point (gyms, Rocket Hideouts, E4, etc). There are a few things I am still trying to decide whether or not I should do. For instance, I have contemplated the idea of adding in Dark and Steel types so that we have more types to do gyms with. Also, I have thought of the idea of making all pokemon who normally evolve by trading instead evolve through level (but a moderately higher level so that it is still fair). One last idea is to edit wild pokemon on routes to have routes also include pokemon from blue version. Those two ideas would allow a complete pokedex with one playthrough, so I am heavily thinking on them. I am open to opinions though.

Let me know if you have any questions on what is going on, I will happily answer anything.

So, with that information, what kind of leaders would we like to see?

Ooooo!!!  I totally want Brock!  Ha ha.  My idea for his gym (assuming we don't have to stick with his rock theme or his pokemon levels of 8 and whatever the heck level Onix was):

Bug Theme

Butterfree

Level 13

Tackle

Harden

Confusion

Poisonpowder

Beedrill

Level 12

Poison Sting

Harden

Fury Attack

---

My question about the Gym Leaders:  Do they still have to give out the same TMs?  Or, can they give out a random TM?  Traditionally, at least one member of the Gym Leader's party knows the TM attack they give out, so they can use it on you.  If you're also going to let us choose the TM they give out, I might have to rework what I'm posting here to find a couple mons with a theme and a semi-decent TM to give away.  If we're not...  I'm not sure if Beedrill can learn Bide or not.  If it can, maybe it should use Bide?

Anyway, I've always thought the first fight with Brock was so super easy considering his mons don't have any attacks and he's not using anything really "worthwhile".  The only ones who don't "steam roll" him is the players who pick Charmander...  Though, they can easily pick up a Nidoran and get the Double Kick attack or whatever fighting move it was they learn right off the bat.  I think Brock being able to Poison the player (something Viridian Forest before him seldom ever did, if at all, making the lesson of "carry antidotes" to the player a rather pointless one) would be an interesting twist to the first gym leader while also being a bit more of a challenge, despite the easily destroyed bugs (hence why I put them at a bit higher levels than Brocks normal mons, if only to make them more effective threats when the player is likely carrying at least one (or two or three!) mons that are super-effective to his mons.  Butterfree with "Confusion" at that level of the game also provides an unexpected attack (except from maybe veterans who know what that mon is capable of) to players that they may not be able to counter right away unless they had known it was coming.  I look at it kind of like the "Misty" battle, where if you didn't know she had Bubblebeam the first time you showed up there, she could easily stomp you into submission (especially since her Starmie was so badass!).  But, that's all I was really going for here, just a bit of a challenge with Brock instead of the usual pushover he's always been.  You can name him "Tai" too, if you'd like.  Well, if you use my idea, anyway, ha ha.

Anyway, that was fun ^_^

Erika's (#4) my favorite...so here's my set I made for her (Ground/Grass):

Graveler - Lv. 24

-Rollout

-Defense Curl

-Earthquake

-Self-Destruct

Dugtrio - Lv. 26

-Toxic

-Earthquake

-Rock Slide

-Rest

Victrebeel - Lv. 29

-Wrap

-Poison Powder

-Acid

-Sleep Powder

I think this further pushes the antidote carrying? I always was scared of poison in the first gens anyway. This whole crew is Erika's nature preservation squad. Being a botanist, Dugtrio is essential (they even made an awesome gen VI egg move that he can learn to benefit the grass type) for plowing the land, while Graveler is perfect for providing the plants with nutritional minerals. Erika wanted more power in her gym? And of course, the ever annoying Victrebeel is back. Punishment if you picked Squirtle? XD This is my two cents.
