Edit: Not sure how to get rid of this blocking for soundcloud. . .
It's because the songs are set to 'private' on soundcloud, if you change them to public the widgets will work. :)

The actual name of ther battle hymn song is "IWSFY" or "I Will Sing For You". I use 2 Vocaloids in that project, Hatsune Miku and Margurine Luka. The twins also have some brief background vocals.

Right now I use Cakewalk Music Creator 6. It has better sounds then whet I used before, but I wish i could get Sibelius back up and running. It's more a matter I'm just being lazy about the cut-off at the moment, and the fact I wrote it at midnight before going to work for 12 hour shifts. Also been trying to put some drum rolls in, but the creator is trying to make my 32nd notes 16 notes.

As for the organ, it's "Church1". The other organs are really bad, and I refuse to use reed or honkey organs. Those are just plain annoyances. But a lot of those are personal preferences.

Lameant was also me fiddleing with the chorus of another song I'm writing. I was playing with different keys and instruments. It was origionally "strings" only.

Does cakewalk allow you to use VST plugins at all?  If so, there's a big bunch of free VSTs out there which might offer a better sound than what you have.

And I am here again! I have a few more things for you humanoids, because I hate you. Also I just wanted to say that @Deilin: I can't actually see the songs, dunno if it's a widget problem or what.

Anyways, the two songs, funny story, I actually switched the names and covers of them because after I made the latter one, I figured that their respective names and covers actually fit each other better than themselves.

Away from that, here are the songs:

The first one is meant to be something of a slightly creepy/ambient vibe, but a lot of ambient techno for the most of it. I dunno, I just make stuff I don't name genres take it:

Speaking of creepy I really need to sit down and flesh out something horror-like.

The other one is, another song, I dunno, I'm getting worse at this genre naming. Feedback is a gud:

Also I just noticed that despite me changing the name of the songs their links are their old links. Hm. Well if anything weird happens whateva. Lemme know what you guys think of things

@Reposer :

I think Malorn will be perfect for space themed shmup game title screen. And even though i didn't get the creepy feeling, this piece has an earworm effect for me. Nice job !

I have to tell you, i love the sound of Try It All. The drums has jazzy feeling to it and those organ sounds really catchy. Uh... that is an organ right ?

Anyway, i've been working on my game again lately. College keep me busy and i really suck at time management. This song is stil WIP. I want to use it as a bgm for the intro cutscene.

It has three part : the good ol' peaceful time, the chaos, and finally something like the heroes BGM. Still confused how to combine it though....

@Reposer: Just a little note before I start, I've noticed a common theme amongst your tracks where they feel overly long without it being necessary to be that long.  It might be something to look into?  Also bear in mind that not all of this feedback is the sort of thing you should apply to the same track, some of it you will want to save exclusively for future tracks.  Don't worry about genre by the way, let the music speak for itself :)

Malorn: I just have to say that I really like the sound of your synths and your stuff is mixed & mastered really well.  This is a pretty repetitive piece but since it's ambient I don't think it would be too hard to fix.  Maybe look into using some key changes, making one or two more parts to use as variations, maybe even one extra section that's completely different to the others.  I would also definitely trim this down a bit.

Try It All: Now that was a good intro, reminded me of fade-ins we get at our cinemas over here in the UK.  I like the chilled feel to this track and the use of improv style jazzy melodies goes a long way to keeping it interesting.  I feel it needs to change a bit earlier and also do a bit more in that change.  Something like at 2.18 for example.  Varying up your transitional melody (on the electric piano) that takes place at around 0:55 (and repeats later on) might also be a good idea as it would open you up for more types of variations later.

Jajunk: Make that intro shorter and more involved so that the next part (which was a great transition btw) isn't so jarring and I think you'll really be onto something here; once you've made it slightly longer.  It also changed tone and feel  bit too abruptly for my tastes so it might be better just to re-write your intro in such a way that it links into the main part better as I feel it's holding it back.  The only other critique I have at this stage is that maybe the piano doesn't quite cut-through the guitar enough just yet, it manages to on the high frequency end of things but I'm only hearing that sharp part rather than all the other goodness so maybe look into ways to make it have more presence.  Not sure which would work but here's a few ideas that might be worth trying: extra reverb, delay, an accompanying synth pad, doubling at an octave below, adding bass notes.

@Scythus: I'll likely work on editing those soon, I'm starting to do some more work on my actual project for now, but in a few days I'll get around to editing those songs a bit, then see what you think about them.

And speaking of both my music and project, I actually have a thing to show you guys! I've made a short video for part of the progress I've made in the past few days one my project. The reason I wanna post it here is because the battle theme and victory jingle are new things, haven't gotten them onto soundcloud yet to show that, probably will later today. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some feedback on the demo, and def the battle/victory music too! One of the bigger reasons I wanted to show the battle music in game first is to give off an idea of how it feels I game, and mixed with the victory tune. Anyways, feedback obviously appreciated, thanks!

Video:

EDIT: Also, for feedback don't worry about the quality of the music, the core is much better and it sounds better on the game itself, it's just the recording program lowering sound quality and adding some noise to the background.

@Reposer: This... isn't really the place to get demo feedback. As for the music:

Battle: It seems strangely low-energy and kind've out of place. If this is the vibe you're going for then you succeeded at that, it just doesn't really feel like battle music to me.

Victory: This also feels very out of place. Not so much victory as... how do I put this... a sort of awkward attempt at a success theme? I dunno, it just seems kind of clunky to my ears.

@Duke: Yea, I plan to post it elsewhere for the demo itself, wasn't really hoping as much for feedback on that here. Mostly using the video for the transition between battle to victory.

On the songs, as long as you don't find any glaring problems with the battle theme itself, then I'm fine with it. I actually plan to have different ones for different areas, and the theme of this one is made for the area its in. And for the victory theme, I may try something else with that aswell, but it'll likely be slightly different, because they're going to be made to compliment the battle theme of the area a bit. However I do see that it could have a bit more to it.

If you want feedback on what's on the video other than the music the Screenshot thread is probably the place for it.

I was feeling slightly more adventurous so I tried something a bit more grand with more feeling. Something of a trailer theme, maybe? Honestly not entirely sure.

There's a distinct lack of "real" guitars at the moment, as it'll be about a month before I'm able to record myself playing. Apologies for the less than great sound of the one that's there.

@Archduke: Ironically the guitar is one of my only complaints about this track, I'd just replace it with virtually any solo instrument in the orchestra or synth, that can fit pitch and tone wise.  The only other suggestion I have is to add more variation at the halfway point, I think I can hear the opportunity for a C-E-C(octave up) arpeggio so if you play your cards right, that could be an option.  I can definitely hear it as a trailer theme but also as a reflective theme and possibly even a world map theme.

Heh, honestly not even surprised. I guess I'll replace it with something like a viola or a group of violins. I'll also definitely try out your other suggestions. Thanks for your advice!

Just found this thread.  Some great stuff around.  Here's a new battle theme I'm working on.  Mix is a bit off as its still WIP but I'd like to know what you guys think, especially the breakdown in the middle if its too out of place sounding.

Archduke: MY two cents but I agree with the above guy.  I don't think a real guitar would bring that melody out too much. Maybe try switching different parts between flutes and cello's.  Kind of call and responseish.  Lovely melodies though.

@padr81: I feel like all of the parts sound good individually, but they lack a sense of cohesion. I do really like the break, though. Sounds pretty rad.

And here is my updated version:

https://soundcloud.com/literature-corner/innocence-in-chaos

I changed out the guitar for a flute with some backing strings and layered it a bit more in some areas for a richer sound.

EDIT: Made the flute louder.

@Padr81: Yeah I agree with Archduke, it feels like you have plenty of cool parts but they don't quite fit together properly yet and yeah the mix needs work since it sounds a little bit too lifeless, not too sure what to suggest as it's something I struggle with as well when it comes to recording real instruments.  I guess all I can say for now is keep at it, look into making the arrangement more cohesive and maybe see about fixing those drums too as they're both conflicting too much and not present enough in some other parts.

@Archduke: I feel the flute works perfectly, just maybe make it a bit more present as it's barely cutting through the strings as it currently is.

@Archduke: Feels like something dancing in the wind, or the wind itself dancing. Like a turbulence. But soft, and dramatic. I really love the feel. Then the drums come, and the flute, these things are epic. It's a really good change, because it never loses that movement.

@padr81: I like the start a lot, but I'm not sure I like the end before the loop just like the other parts of it. Any case, it's pretty darn hot! I'm sure I would not be bored in battle with such a thing playing.

Ummm... well, this is something I did a long time ago. It's not made for a game by the way. And I have zero of musical formation so I'm sorry for any bleeding ears.

Thanks for listening!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
