I'll bite for fun. Especially since it was pretty interesting to read most of the other posts here.
Alex
Main character. Can't be swapped out. This is who you play as.
His best friend is Edgar and his wife is Selece. Selece is actually a General in the enemy army his country is fighting. Alex likes the feeling of always doing something. This makes him rather impulsive and impatient. He'd rather use a Short Sword than a Battle Axe because he can swing the Short Sword very fast and it keeps him moving and mobile in a fight. On top of this, he's always wanted to Slay a Dragon. Yep, Dragons have been extinct forever, but that doesn't stop him from dragging Edgar along anytime there's even a RUMOR of a Dragon living somewhere. He just wants to fight and slay a Dragon for the story of having done it. He's yet to ever find a real Dragon, but him and Edgar have debunked a LOT of rumors and hoaxes about them.
He's a soldier for the army of his country and he cares a lot about the men under his command. He's not a Leader due to rank, but by reputation and charisma. Him and Edgar often joke about how he's "such a goody two-shoes" and he'd "never do anything wrong unless it was for a good reason". Because of this, when him and Edgar get into a tight spot, they share a saying between them:
Edgar: "I'll fight the demons."
Alex: "And I'll fight the angels."
It's an admission that to know and destroy your enemy, you must BE your enemy. Edgar and Alex have their own pact that when "the good guys" get out of hand, it's Alex that is to deal with them, and when "the bad guys" get out of hand, it's Edgar's job to handle it.
Alex also carries a lot of guilt about the situations he's caused. He never really knows what to do with it, but he also doesn't really learn from having it. It just makes him feel less and less human as he rationalizes his guilt instead of confronting it.
Alex is "The Fateless" on top of all that, which means he's basically "The Chosen One", but not really. His power is simply that despite everyone in the world having a Fate... he doesn't. So, he can alter everyone's fates by interacting with them. Put simply, he's basically an agent of Chaos. Born every few hundred years or so, for reasons unknown. The spoiler isn't that he's The Chosen One. The spoiler is WHY "The Chosen One" exists at all, and what it means.
Selece
Wife of Alex. She's a "Witch". She is what is known as "An Elemental". Elementals are all women, they can use the 6 Elements freely to varying degrees of skill, and are all drafted into the army.
There are two things relatively special about her.
The first is that she lies fairly frequently. She holds the distinction of having never lied to Alex, but she is adept at telling lies and keeping them unknown.
The second is that she is the best Elemental her country has to offer. To be with Alex, she had to fake her own death in order to prevent her people from coming to look for her as well as to prevent endless reprisals from her country if she had simply married him.
Both of these play into who she is as a person. Put simply, she maintains an illusion about her at all times. See that Heavy Armor she's wearing? What mage wears heavy armor? Not her. It's what is termed "An Illio" (pronounced: E Yo). Elementals wear them sometimes to keep enemies from spotting that they're Elementals. Put simply, it keeps them from being targeted. However, Selece maintains her Illio subconsciously. It is always on. It never comes off, no matter what she's actually wearing or doing. It is on even when she sleeps. The only person who has ever seen her without that armor is Alex. Her guard only ever comes down around him.
She is battle-hardened, quick witted, and sharp tongued. Despite her high body count, it has never really changed her personality what-so-ever. Though, with her "defenses" constantly up, who, except Alex, could ever say for sure?
Edgar
Alex's best friend. He trained Alex how to fight and operate within an army.
Edgar tends to play "The Straight Man" to Alex's "Goofy Behavior", but he is not beyond making jokes of his own. He is exceptionally serious and keeps Alex grounded in most situations.
Edgar trusts Alex with his very life, but he would sacrifice Alex in an instant if it meant himself or his ideals would be saved. This is a fact he has told Alex several times and it is understood between friends.
He does not form bonds very easily and as a result he has never even courted a woman before. His stance on dating and being with a woman are that "they are too complicated" and "I don't have time for it". The reality is probably something more akin to "Just hasn't met the right woman" yet.
He was secretly trained to be a "Magic Knight" by the army and for this gift, he has sword unerring allegiance to The Kingdom. He might betray The Kingdom for the same reasons he would betray Alex. But, unless those opportunities arise, he is loyal to those two, to a fault. Only Alex even knows that Edgar is a Magic Knight, while the rest of the military must never find out.
Edgar has a deep hated for the army that Selece hails from. The enemy he so hates essentially killed many innocents and continues to do so in unforgiving ways. His main goal and motivation in life is to simply exterminate every single Elemental on the planet. You can imagine what this does to him, knowing that his best friend has married an Elemental, and only he is privy to the knowledge that she is one.
Noah
This is a Paladin who has lost his faith. He is one of two "Life" magic users in the entire world. Because his abilities are more "Offensive" in nature, he was basically turned into "an enforcer" for The Kingdom (same one Alex is part of).
Basically, he's the medieval version of "The Secret Police". If he shows up on scene, it's very serious, and it will get done. Few people know his name. Fewer still know his profession. He's seen as simply a Paladin. A "holy knight" in some regard, though his actions are far from holy.
Because of the tasks he's been asked to oversee, he has lot his faith in a great many things. He has no faith for his government, its people, or even what might pass as "God" in any religion. He wants to believe his powers and talents are good for something other than what they're being used for, but they have never served any other purpose than that.
Noah puts down the undead and is one of the few that knows why they rise. He is powerless to stop their rising and this fact has lead him to doubt a great many things in life.
Does he have loves? Hobbies? Interests? No. His life is utterly consumed by his work and his worries about the world have kept him from caring about much else.
Mark
A non-traditional thief. He was raised in the desert town of "Oasis", which is primarily home to criminals and thugs.
Mark isn't a Traditional Thief in that he doesn't steal for "monetary gain". He steals for the challenge of the theft and the potential prize. If an empty wine bottle was put under lock and key and lots of people said it was valuable and hard to obtain, even if it really wasn't... he'd go and steal it. His motto is:
"The harder something is to obtain, the more valuable it is."
As a result of this motto, he's been all over the world and stolen all manner of things. Sometimes he holds onto the things he steals, and sometimes he gets rid of them. If a thing loses value while he has it, he discards it. After all, stealing an item that was once valuable, but no longer is valuable, means that theft is no longer valuable or interesting.
His latest challenge is attempting to steal the heart of the Elven Princess. She is deemed by her people to be their one and only treasure. It is also widely known by the Elves that "she cannot be stolen". When Mark heard these things from some Elves trying to dissuade him from looting some ruins they were guarding, he made it his mission to steal her. But, the game is meaningless to him if he just picks her up and runs off with her. However, stealing her indifferent heart is a suitable challenge.
Harold
Mark's father. Harold is "The fatherly type" to everyone he meets. He's older than he cares to admit and is a seasoned Pirate. The problem is that he's only a "pirate" in that he steals from ships when he's paid to do so and transports illegal cargo for the same reason. His first and only love is "The Sea" and any chance he gets, he prefers to be on it.
The goggles that he wears are a personal invention of his. They exist purely to keep the spray from his eyes during rough weather or choppy waves. He's named them "Eyepros" for reasons known entirely to him, and almost nobody agrees that's a good name for them.
He acts purely as a mentor figure for everyone younger than him and he is estranged from his son. He has never taken part in the life of his son and for good reason. The Kingdom contracted Harold under blackmail to do a job for them. That job meant he had to put his son in hiding and cut ties with him in order to keep his son from leading the same life he lead and making the same mistakes. Namely, getting involved in The Kingdom and being a public figure well known to everyone.
He's the best at what he does and he has a line for every situation. It doesn't hurt that most of those lines are probably taken from the religion he practices which is known typically as "The Children of Aethral". However, he actually worships an older version of that religion that was passed from Sailor to Sailor known simply as "Kelris".
The rest of the cast look up to him and respect him greatly, even if he isn't sure how to act toward his son. A son that didn't fall too far from the tree and has essentially become the things he didn't want his son to be.
Lydia
The worlds' first and only "Cleric". She would probably specialize in "Healing", if there were such a thing. Alas, her power is limited to removing some forms of ailment from people. Poisons, burns, and things of that nature. If you scrape your knee, she can't help you. If you catch the Flu, she'll ask you why you think she can help.
Lydia is two things that a Cleric should probably never be. She's cynical and she doesn't heal for free.
Lydia trades her services to people who need them for things she needs to survive. She turned down ever serving in the army of The Kingdom, but that Kingdom still protects her since she is the second person in the entire world that has "Life" magic. She travels around, essentially doing "missionary work" and to keep her on their side, The Kingdom allows her to do what she wants "within reason" as well as protects her when she gets into trouble.
Lydia is the youngest of the bunch, but probably also the most "world weary". She has seen all the pain and suffering people cause on a constant basis and has taken a view on History and Humanity that isn't very pleasant. She is the "voice of reason" within the party as well as "the reality check" for almost every member of it. She is also a very skilled manipulator. She is so skilled, in fact, that she's known to "talk down bandits". Or, rather, "defeat bandits by just talking to them". She makes shrewd deals all the time and revels in the act of making those deals. It is one of the few joys in the world she has.
Angela
Queen of the Elves. The most treasured possession of the entire country. She is worth more than all other Elves combined.
But why?
She cured her people of "The Nature". Her people lived in the woods so long that they had all become "beast people". Through a ritual she'd managed to divine, she got her people transformed back into humans... with the exception of their Ears. She told them that they would keep their ears as a reminder of their transgressions and what had turned them into Beasts to begin with.
Since that event, she's done little more than languish away her days in the castle. Bored. Annoyed. Everyone and everything is so predictable. She knows what you're going to do long before you do. She knows your motivations before you ever realize them. The world spins and she's bored with it all.
Until she meets Mark.
Mark wants to steal her and she's pretty sure she can't even feel love. How could one feel love when they can't ever be surprised? When everyone and their motives are so predictable?
So, her and Mark come up with their own game. Angela doesn't even know what she looks for in a partner, so the game starts simple. Mark wants "a place to start" winning her heart, so she proposes a simple challenge.
"Let's discover what I look for in a partner together."
The game's rules are simple:
"Each week, I will give you a challenge. Complete it by midnight on the final day or I will tell my guards to kill you on sight. Maybe by passing my challenges each week, we'll discover what I want in a partner together."
So, what's the first challenge she set him to?
"Surprise me. Give me something or do something to surprise me."
Angela wishes for a world where things no longer surprise her. Where she can begin to care again. So, she puts her hope in Mark to find that for her. Whether they'll actually fall in love with each other? Who knows? Probably not. But, maybe they don't need love to be together.
