I am trying to wrap my mind around the possibilities.

What do you imagine the best ideas to be?

I use a Menu Manager in Ace, and make menu commands trigger common events my self. It's godly, I used the massage script, to create char stat pages for summons that are never in your party outside of battle, It's amazing. I also created Profile pages as well, telling each character's background story.

Although I must say the MV plugin is a lot more user friendly lol then the Ace counterpart, since the common event funtionality is anready configured,in the plugin, all you need to do is name it, and change a variable(variable being the database ID for the common event).

There's so much you can do with that, It's not funny :)

A few things that come to mind immediately are warping to a home base (etc.), launching an evented skill/stat upgrade system, or checking context-sensitive statuses (like viewing a picture map of the area or finding out how many more monsters must be defeated for a Full Clear).

I think fully-scripted menu choices will still be the best way to go for most purposes, but for people who aren't comfortable with scripting yet these Common Event calls will be nice.

Because some people prefer to use the mouse and others prefer to use the arrow keys, I used a common event in the menu to enable/disable the mouse.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
