Hey everyone!

The other day I made a research about tileset resources that people want on RMMV. Most of all, people want more options to make good forests (or individual forest elements to be used wherever). So, just to let you know, I started to produce this Assorted Forests Resource Pack. And here's a sneak peek for you guys. Pure pixel (yeah!)  :thumbsup-right:

Grid is 48x48, grass is repeated 4 times on the image just to show the tile link. Here's an actual tile:

2X details:

It's possible that these trees suffer some changes and improvements in the final version, though. I intend to make at least ten different "species" of trees (different colors don't count individually, this one above is one tree) and very large ones either, not to mention the other forest elements.

Even if I'm creating this for RMMV, of course with some 'hacks' you can use on other RPG Makers and etc. I hope you like it!

Looking good so far. This one has a jungle feel in it.

Thank you RaZzi. I found tough to find big leaf tree tiles that aren't palmtrees (like is common to come on RTP), so I decided to make it myself. Haven't tought much about jungles, but I'll look into references to get some inspiration and maybe add jungle elements on the pack also.

I am not an artist so I shall probably not explain this well, but the shading and highlights you have done do not match the way that these are normally done, and so it will be difficult to use these harmoniously with other assets.

At the moment the highlights indicating the source of light are evenly spread around the middle of the tree.  It looks as if the light is coming from the front.  In RM, however, the light falls from top left.  Therefore, that is the area to be highlighted and so the right side of the tree should be shaded, not equally lit.

These look nice, but are their own very style. I'd think twice before buying a pack like this, if there aren't enough resources included for making a game. Not to mention that these are now some of the very first 48x48px tiles.

This isn't a store pack, this is the resources section, he's sharing these tiles for free.

You're quite right. At the same time I think light sources (aswell for perspective) do not maintain an hegemonic pattern on several RPG Maker standard resources - of course that doesn't justify using random highlights just because, what I'm saying is that on a final piece of map it becomes almost imperceptible. I switched trees on this Candacis' map below as example. If you look carefully, not everything keep the same source of light. Characters mostly. Walls, boxes. Eyes can be deceived, I guess. And well, for mine, it matches harmoniously with RMVX/A assets (and better, I think). :)

Thanks Banquo.

As I've showed above, I think it goes well with the existent art. 48x48 shouldn't be a problem, parallax or pixel arrangements could be done easily.

Yes! Anyone can use and edit these shared on the thread freely.

I'm not sure you're right.  The roofs, for example, are clearly shadowed on the left side, as is the barrel, and if anyone is using the auto shadow, that too falls to the right, indicating light coming from the left.  Where you have the tree at bottom right and can simultaneously see the roof and the auto shadow, I think the circular lighting on the tree stands out quite a bit.

I see what you mean. Even so it does not look like a big problem to my eyes, and I think it's due the perspective. My intent since the start was to reproduce 3/4 top-down properly, different of what we see on some RPG Maker assets like this tree below.

It looks super flat even with shadows for me (kind of platform-view); and the oval shadow looks much more non-sense than the circle shadow I roughly made on that example above, for example. And to make that perspective good enough, I probably exagerated on the upper lights.

I may work a little more on shadows then (what you said about the circular lighting makes a lot of sense). Thank you!

That lighting actually makes sense though. Upper Left and Reflective Lights bouncing from the ground.

The Oval shadow is just the easiest way to do shadows to emphasize that this tree is dense that it can't make patterns.

That being said, I like that grass tile

I'm not a big fan of easiest ways to shadow, heheh  :D  but I agree.

Thank you! Making good grass tiles (plus matching them without weirdness) is tough and I finally reach one that I like.

Dat grass tile. Loved it.

While the shading and pallete doesn't match too much with the rtp, those tile reminded to me the Mana series, specially that grass.

You don't have to use the MV's default style anyway :p

I just had to say that your trees and grass almost remind me of 'Link's awakening' or even 'the third mana game'.  I <3 the look of it and would really love to see more.

Really cute-looking trees; I especially adore the autumn one. Are you planning to make snowy trees as well *starry eyes*

That grass looks awesome, much more lively than the plain colored grass from the rtp.

If you don't mind me asking, what program are you using to make these resources?

I personally love these! (especially the trees), thank you so much for making them.

I'll be looking forward to whatever you make next.

Awesome work!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
