I want two events that are atop of each other to be below the character. The problem is that I want their priority to be reversed; the one currently above to be below and the one below to be above. How can I manage that (while of course keeping their priority "below character")?

What I want:

What I get:

EDIT: A video showing the problem

If the character is not going to be able to freely roam the map while the creature is there (i.e. cutscene), you could try placing the creature as an 'above character' priority, or use a picture (if the creature will remain static).

If the character is meant to walk up to the creature before a cutscene occurs, you can place an invisible event tile in front of the creature to initiate the cutscene.

Alternatively, you could use a parallax background for the map, one with gray picture event, and one without (if you require it), and place the creature as an event instead.

Be sure to map out passabilities if that is the case.

Yet another alternative to combine both events so that you only need to use one spritesheet, instead of two.

It's kind of a complicated matter. At first, neither the mold nor the fly are present on the map. During a cutscene the fly (at that point above characters) lands on the white liquid and then the mold is formed around it. The problem is when the cutscene ends and I want the player to be able to walk on to the fly.

When I change the event to "below characters" it goes below the mold event as well.

Sure, I could make a new sprite that combines the two, but I would like to avoid that, for multiple reasons, the main being that I still need the fly in its current state.

Actually, why not set the fly's priority to 'Same as Character'? Setting it to 'Below Character' means that the character will appear above every pixel of the fly's sprite, unless that is your intention.

Yes, that's what I want. The fly is submerged partially in the fluid and I want the player to step OVER the fly as seen in the video.

I suspect the higher-numbered event will be the one on top. So swap around the images on your two events and see if that makes a difference.

Yeah, that was the original idea, but the issue remains as is.

I can't view your attached video, but based off your description, you can keep one spritesheet of the fly without the mold, and one spritesheet of the fly with the expanding mold.

Use the mold free fly spritesheet to animate the fly flying down. Once it reaches the static position on the liquid, change its graphics to the fly spritesheet with the expanding mold, and animate it as you originally did.

Fixed. for the mold to be that huge it had to be on a large spritesheet (11x11) and it had to start at the beginning of the tank.
The fly didn't need such a huge spritesheet (5x5) so the event had to be exactly where I wanted it to land

The game, unfortunately interpreted that the mold event is IN FRONT of the fly event  (since the first one has a bigger Y value), thus placing it ABOVE the fly event, trying to conceal it from view.

All I had to do is move the fly to the big spritesheet like this.

Where the fly is not near the bottom of the graphic. So the game things that the fly event is actually in front and consequently ABOVE the mold event.

Susan, thank you very much for your attention!

Shaz, I suspect I'll be thanking you a lot in the future.
