So I got the Old School Modern graphics and when I try to import the resources into Rpgmaker VX Ace, the background on the tilesets and characters is solid white, not the usual blue checkered transparency. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it so I can use the resources? Thanks!

The original image files are in png format which allows transparency.

1) Did you edit the image, and/or save it to a different format that does not support transparency?

2) Where did you purchase the resource from - RMW main store, forum store, or Steam?

3) Could you explain to us how you imported the resource to RMVXA - by using the import resource option from within the RM, or by copying the image files directly to the project folder?

1) I did not edit the images.

2) I bought them off Steam.

3) I used the import resource option built into RM.

But I will say for some reason when I open the character sprites in Gimp and re-save the file without any editing or anything, all of a sudden the background is now transparent. But this voodoo will not work for me with the tilesets.

In the case of steam, there are two import options in the resource manager, the "import" button and the "DLC" button - which one did you use?
And after the picturefile is opened, do you get a window for selecting a transparency color or not?

It would be difficult to understand the problem you are having without actually seeing the image files.

It is not allowed to repost or share store products publicly, but if the staff are all right with it, you can PM me the files and I can have a look at them. I can help you to edit your tilesets if need be.

Just to clarify, I own both of the Old School Modern tiles resource packs, if this helps.

I apologize in advance if this is not allowed as well.

Andar, i have tried using both dlc and the regular importing option. Neither way has worked for me. And yeah, it gives me a transparency option window but no way to change it, unless of course I just don't know how to change it. I don't see any options in the window.

Susan, I would love to send you the files, but I don't want to get in trouble if it's not allowed. I'm almost wondering if they got corrupt while downloading. I should let everyone know I have used other resource packs from Steam, including other kinds of tilesets, and I've never had this problem before.

UPDATE: Ok, I changed the transparency color from black to white when importing the tiles and it worked. But I gotta say, it is really hard to tell the grass tiles apart from each other. Same goes for the water. I've read this is a problem with the resource pack from someone else's topic on the forums. Lame, but oh well.

Thanks everyone for helping me!

Glad that you managed to solve your problem. I still wonder why your image files is not displaying transparency properly. I have looked at tilesets and charactersets , and they are displaying transparency properly. Mine was downloaded from the forum store.

I am interested to know what you mean about it being hard to tell the grass tiles apart from each other and the water tiles.

A1 tileset consists of 4 water animation tiles.

A2 tileset consists of 2 green grass autotiles (normal and tall grass), 2 brown grass autotiles (normal and tall grass), 3 earth autotiles, 7 floor autotiles, and 2 'pit' autotiles.

Maybe you could elaborate your problem further if you need any help on this matter?

For future reference, your best bet would be to manually copy the image files you want to use in your project directly from the DLC folder into your project folder.

Steam RMVXAce DLC can be located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPGVXAce\dlc (64bit Windows)
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\RPGVXAce\dlc (32bit Windows)

Then just copy them over to your projects folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\{USERNAME}\RMVXAce\{YOURPROJECT} (Windows XP)
C:\Users\{USERNAME}\Documents\RMVXAce\{YOURPROJECT} (Windows Vista/7)

Just replace {USERNAME} with your Windows username and {YOURPROJECT} is pretty self explanatory.

As for what the tiles are, use this:

Editor Tile Names

This made specifically for this pack, however does not include names of tiles for the newest update.  I'll add them in later when I have more time.

Susan, the tiles for all the grass is just green (no details) for them. No way to tell them apart until I go to use them. Same with the water and dirt. But I think the link from djDarkX will solve my problem once I buy Winzip (my trial for that ended a long time ago).

And thanks everyone for the prompt responses. This place is a great community. I love these forums and you people for sharing your knowledge and artwork so freely. It makes Rpgmaker even more fun to use than it already is!

Yes, I found djDarkX's tile description files useful. ^^

Instead of waiting to buy Winzip, maybe you can try using 7-zip. It can open RAR files and it's free.

Good luck with your project! ^^

Alternative use 7zip.

It is for FREE under GNU LGPL License!

Supports lots of compression types.

Edit:

:headshake:   I HAD to read the whole Susan's reply before i would post this.....  :headshake:

7-zip, huh? I'll get that instead if it's free. Thanks!

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
