Hello everyone,
Not so long ago, someone in this forum told me they have made a tutorial on how to install RPG M VXA on Linux but after that my old Windows computer crashed and I lost all references.

Now, I have a brand new laptop with Linux Mint on it (Windows 10 update broke my last laptop even if I set the update to disabled in services... I don't even want dual boot. I lost precious time and energy because of Microsoft and never again!!!) .

I followed a tutorial on You Tube and the Game is running but I have three problems:
1. I have a proper registration number paid with real money but I don't know how to activate it with Linux because it crashes when I click on activate.
2. The game.exe starts in a small screen even if I have checked the selected box (launch full screen in F1)
3. I can't edit any changes in the game because the editor - which I can only access if I click on continue in the registration menu -
is telling me that is out of memory! Basically, I can only draw.

I would be eternally grateful to those who can help me.
Thank you

I think this should be in Tech Support, so I'm going to move it there.

For the activation, send a support ticket through the link top right.
For the other help, we need more info - at minimum which Windows Emulator you're using.

I have Mint set up on a laptop right now, so I'll take a look at this and see if I can't give more insight. When I have results, I'll let you know.

Thank you both!
Andar, I thought about the ticket as well but I think that the problem is rooted in the system not running properly. If it runs properly, I think the registration issue should be resolved, if it's not I'll open a ticket.
There is a program especially designed for running Windows programs called Wine, my version is 3.0.

djDark, on the tutorial on You Tube (https://youtu.be/imZjSuX5vg0), the guy is running Wine with Windows 7 - you can see it in the configuration. But in the official Wine I only have Windows XP... Could that be the problem? And how did you get Windows 7 on Wine configuration?

I started using Linux two days ago for the first time in my life so feel free to ask me any questions even if you think something is obvious because
for me, as a newbie, nothing is!

Please help!
Thanks!

SPECS:
I was running RPG Maker in Windows 10 32 bit
My Linux Mint is 18.2 Cinammon 64 bit
Intel Core i7 (7th generation)
16 GB ram
Graphic Card is Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1050 Ti
1 TB hard disk

It's a very powerful computer which I bought to make CGI animation.

I managed to solve part of the problems by updating Wine (it was very old) and I can use all of the functions now.
1: Registration completed
2. Full Screen doesn't work and also if I continue a game it's ok but if I start a new game it crashes!
3. Everything works fine in editor

One more problem:
If I play selecting CONTINUE GAME (everything is perfect)
but if I select START A NEW GAME (the game crashes)

DjDarkX, can you please tell me which version of Wine are you using? Did you have to install any other particular libraries?
Thanks!

Sorry I never got back to you. I was rather busy these past few days. I am actually in the process of installing and registering my copy of Ace on my Mint laptop, which is on version 1.6, it seems.

As soon as I get it tested more, I'll be back with my results.

EDIT:
Okay, after testing it a bit, it's working without issue so far, including fullscreen and starting a new game after saving. I updated to the latest stable build available on WineHQ. I can link you the instructions I followed to get 1.8 and it's working.

https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

When it comes to fullscreen, just remember that if you're play testing, you have to focus on the play test window because for some reason, it likes to switch focus to an element of the UI saying "Now Play Testing..." from Ace's editor. After that, you should see it working properly in fullscreen.

Hey djDarkX,

I uninstalled the previous version and installed the version you suggested by following your link:
it worked but I still have a little bug!!! ;_;

Now full screen is working and I can start a new game but after that I get a dark screen - this happens only with the game I'm creating).

If I start a new game from scratch everything is working fine... I don't really understand; it's like the problem is only with the game I created.
The directory of the game is in C:/... (as suggested by Wine app develpers).

Please if there is anything else you think I should do let me know, I'm very new to Linux!

Thanks a lot for your very important help!

Interesting. That didn't happen to me at all, but I can look into it tomorrow morning. What you should do, however, is run Ace from the Terminal, using wine, and see what happens when the screen goes black. I know it's frustrating, but we can figure this out together. Hopefully I'll see the results of this in the morning so I can better help you.

Hi DjDark, I live in Cambodia so I hope I make it in time...

Unfortunately, I can't find any information in tutorials and forums on how to install a program on Wine through the terminal.

Can you please teach me how to do it, line by line?

I've only been using Linux for less than a week so I'm a noob!

Anyway, when I refresh the system updater, it gives me a list of errors (I think because at the beginning, I installed different versions of Wine without uninstalling them first. I thought it was like Windows, updating automatically.)

I uninstalled all Wine related files and made a fresh install of the link you gave me.

I have already contacted Linux Forums about the system error waiting for their answer, the problem is related to Wine so it maybe the reason why RPGM is not working.

The error is about multiple configurations.

Any hints or suggestion is highly appreciated!
Thanks

Might be a good idea to place all that into a spoiler. Either way, if you really did remove all instances of Wine, should be working. Best way to purge it from your system completely:

sudo apt-get --purge autoremove

From there, if the repository is still added, then simply do:

sudo apt-get update

And finally:

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-stable

This should install Wine version 3.0.x on your system and it should run Ace just fine. Also, seems your sources.list was either corrupted or it was updated with duplicate entries in a weird way. For that, I'll look into it and see what I find.

Ok, I fixed the system. Wiped out the old Wine re-install it but there was still a little problem and then I messed it around a lot. I think I'm too tired, I need a bit of time to understand what's happening. I'll get back to you.

I tried to do what you suggested but the first line doesn't get rid of Wine...

I'll see what I can do and then get back to you again. In the meantime thanks, I think that you have already given me the information I need,
I just need to fix what I messed up while playing around with the terminal!

Yes, I forgot to mention to add wine at the end of autoremove so that it knows what to remove. I hope you have success in trying to get it to work!

SOLVED!
I filed a bug report with Wine HQ and they told me how to fix it (https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45395)
Mind you that I didn't buy my game from Steam but directly from this site.
What's important to know if anyone else has problems:

1. Do not install the meta package that comes in the Software Manager because there is a conflict with the latest stable Wine version.
2. Delete all previous versions of Wine and delete also the hidden folder .wine found in the home/user/ directory
3. Install the latest Wine stable https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu (still the same address that DjDarkX gave me)
4. Install Winetricks
5. Open the terminal and type sudo apt-get update
5. Open terminal and enter winetricks quartz (read the bug for info)
6. Type in terminal winecfg (it opens the wine configuration)
7 Go to libraries and type winegstreamer and disable it.

That's it!
I also upgraded my system to Linux Mint 18.3 Cinammon 64-bit

I would like to thank djDarkX for his kind patience and for pointing me to the right direction!
I was right to ditch Windows 10 after all :stickytongue::biggrin:

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
