I found a really good tutorial for making journals without scripting and it seems relatively straightforward. Here's the link:

http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/12651-tutorial-how-to-make-an-objectives-journal/

The problem is, I can't make it work and the link has been archived so I can't reply and ask the OP. This is a VX tuitorial and I use XP, but I assume the premise is the same since it only uses switches, conditional branches, and common events. Below are some screenshots to compare to the images in the tuitorial. I think I have done everything correctly, but when I press "L", my journal does open to reveal my quests.

Screenshot 1: The event where we obtain the journal

Screenshot 2: The item in the database

Screenshot 3:The common event

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've tried tweaking the common event by switching the first two conditional probabilities, changing "Journal in inventory" to "switch 0002: Activate journal == ON", selecting "001: Journal" on the item page, among many more things and nothing seems to help.

Thank you!

RMMV
You need to press the Button :L to open the journal - that is not the same as the key L on your keyboard.

Have you checked your keyboard mapping (F1 ingame) to see which key the button :L is mapped to?

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
