Hi.

I'm not sure it's the best place to send this but I didn't found another fitting forum.

I'm trying to copypaste two characters from one character sheet to one other with Gimp 2.

But when I do the paste command, the colors of the characters are modified (and ugly).

Does anyone know how it happens and how to prevent it?

Thanks in advance.

This can happen when the original sprite sheet has some tinting added to it.  I had this happen to me only the other day.  I couldn't see it, but whenever I tried adding more sprites to that sheet the results were appalling.  I don't know how it's done, so I can't tell you how to get rid of it.  I suggest that you create a new file, of the correct size, and copy both sprites into it.  If the colours change, you will then know which one has the tinting, and can decide to keep it that way or modify it.

That's easy to answer, because GIMP is saving every picture with it's own palette's.

So if you combine two different pictures into one, some color channels would be overwriten with the new ones. ;)

The result is, completly messed up palette. :/

I use for that allways Paint.net, it doesn't work with palette's and so this bug doesn't appear. ;)

It has allmost the same features, like cut out, layering and all the stuff. But no palette's, which will help in this situation. :)

It also has the option to use transparent background, so you can save it allready in the folder the character or whatever you made fit in. Saves much time in my oppinion. :D

Gimp has some things that are good there, like you can make .gif's with it or use palette's for faster editing your picture.

In the end both are really great, but for RPG Maker sprites, paint.net is the better choice in my oppinion. ;)

Hope that helped. :D (\s/)

Isn't this induced by one of the images in Indexed colors instead of RGB?

If so, changing the mode of the image (Image/mode) should work.

I've moved this thread to Program and Utility Discussion (this is GIMP related, not RPG Maker related). Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

cabfe's comment is what I was thinking of - I just couldn't think of the terms GIMP uses.

Using paint worked all right, thanks!

I just had to finish with gimp to create an alpha canal, and make sure the character alignement is good with the grid.

Thanks again.

Paint is not really good, because it doesn't let you use transparency. Paint.net is better.

So after completing the Mass Effect Trilogy the first time as a Vanguard, I decided to replay the trilogy as a Soldier. Thus far, I've just finished the Horizon mission in ME2, and I'm already exhausted from ME2's f**k-awful enemy design.
If you are in these ices, I will give all the fire...
