Hi ^^

Im making a parallax map in which i have implemented the Woratana multiple Fogs script in order to make a "cloud shadows effect". I have a dark layer to make the night effect and i would like to make the light of some lamppost.

The problem comes when the cloud shadows move to the position of the light and in the same point there are light and shadow, and it needs to be just light.

I have thought about copyng the iluminated area and overlay over the shadows layer, but in this case the characters would be under this layer and they won't appear in the screen.

Any ideas/suggestions? :p

Sorry about my english, i hope i have explained it correctly.

Thank you! =).

Yes, im using one layer for darkness and the lantern effect, but the darkness and lantern effect are made with parallax, not with the Fog script, but i think this doesn't matter : /.

So you have a layer with darkness and spots of light for your streetlights.

And another layer with clouds.

And you want the night-time clouds which are moving over the darkened screen to not make the light from the lanterns dim at all?

In some ways it seems sensible to me that they would dim. You are looking down on a town, and a cloud comes between you and the light, and it obscures the light from the lamp.

But that is not what you want?

Hmmm not exactly. I have made a screenshot of the problem in game.

As you see, the shadow over the light is not nice. By the way, thank you for answer =).

It looks to me like the cloud layer isn't really a very good choice. You could try changing the opacity or going for a different picture. Maybe get some other opinions with more experience.

I have been trying different opacities but it continues being weird. Maybe i will forget about the clouds or the light =P. Thank you very much anyway =)

Have you thought of making an alt version of the clouds, with inversed colors? Or would that make everything but the clouds too bright?

do you've already try changing z property in woratana script?

i think you should change it so the cloud shadow will be under your dark and light layer..

try look scene_picture or your parallax script what your light z property.. :)

The clouds layer is white and black, if i invert the colours it would be almost the same :p (I have done this before).

if i do that the problem would be the next: the light area has opacity, then the shadows will be seen at this point although the shadows layer were under the light layer. I need the opacity because the characters must appear under this illuminated area =)

Thank you both!

What I am thinking is that your cloud layer is just not varied enough.

Here is one by Heisenmann:

See how it is not either black or white, but multi-shaded?

Use this and see if it improves things.

Don't forget to set the opacity so you can see through it! =]

Wow, sincerely, i wasn't very hopeful but in fact it's working pretty well! :D . There still is a little shadow in the light area but is very very very soft, so for me this is the best solution. Thank you very much GrandmaDeb! ^^

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
