Problems With The Events

Hello there! This time I would be needing help with these: Event what activates with action button pressed in front of toy-bear-graphic what shows text x (I even tried to change the trigger to that it activates just about going against the bear but it didn't still work. This could be helpful when I am going to use it a lot :p  ) Second event is that when you'll start game, the game screen would fade in and text would start to auto-trigger showing main character saying thing x . Here are screenshots. Fading in works perfectly but neither the other events do. Again, thanks for your time

The trigger position depends on the event priority - if that is below player, then the player has to stand on the event to activate.


If priority is same as player, player can use the action button from any of the four main directions when facing the event.


And your second problem is a simple autorun.


I suggest you follow the link in my signature and work through the tutorials there, that should get you started as fast as possible.

Thanks, but I self taught myself. Everything else is fine except event what is actually an autorun. I tried to create even where player wakes up and says thing x but it never ends  :o I tried to add also exit event processing but that did dick didly. If you can help with this one too, thanks :3 !

That is the problem with only going by what you do as self-taught.  You don't know what it is that you don't know.  In the autorun, it's because you need to use a self switch and a second page.

Please, I strongly urge you to follow the advice of Dreadshadow and Andar and look at the tutorials.

Reading @Andar's tutorials, still keeps you self taught. Playing a game that shows how to do stuff, also keeps you self taught. Neither @Andar or me teach you anything really. I hope this makes sense to you.

Now if you don't want to read @Andar's tutorials or play my tutorial, it's ok with us I suppose. But don't expect us to help you out, on things that you can help yourself with minimum effort (reading @Andar's tutorials or playing Events or both). That's why tutorials exist. A tutorial is a packed piece of information, oriented to help people learn some stuff.

What you ask for is very basic things, trust me on this. It is basic stuff but we are not sure on what you don't know, since you are self taught. That's why we suggested you what we did suggested. Asking for us to spend more time on your issue, without you spending some time for it, learning some stuff, is at least a little selfish from your part. You probably don't realize this now, but let me explain why. An answer might rise more questions that when being answered might rise more questions... you see where this thing goes right? This will be us serving as tutors for free, while we spent a LOT of time to make efficient tutorials for that purpose (and we give those tutorials for free).

Also, in case WE teach you, you won't be self taught, and that goes against your own argument.

Finally I personally don't want to do this for you. I can not speak for @Andar, I speak for myself only.

You still ask for basic stuff.

Events is a 4 hours game that will teach you a lot of stuff.

@Andar's tutorials are well written and you can seek what you need to do easier, because these tutorials are here.

That is exactly because you are self-taught - otherwise you would know what autorun and exit event processing really do, and why those failed for you.

Autoruns ALWAYS runs - sixty times per second to be precise, unless you switch them off. And exiting event processing one time doesn't prevent the autorun from starting again in the next frame...

And there are a lot more things that are easy if you're being about told them but cause a lot of problems if you don't expect them - like how the simulation for the 2-level-dungeon on a regular (single-level) map can make it appear that your actor suddenly walks on walls etc.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
