So, I've completed the demo for my game and I try to compress it so it can be played on a different computer without the use of RPG maker. During compression, it would stop right at the end and then do nothing. The window would not change so I could click "Finish" or anything of the sorts.

In the case that this is simply the way it worked, I attempted to open open the archived file so I could test run the game to make sure it installed on my computer properly. I was always met with a "Extraction failed".

If someone could offer assistance if they know the issue or give me a URL to a good tutorial, that would be very much appreciated and thank you in advance.

If you are using steam, make sure you save your game (and wait for it to finish synching before you try to demo it)

Then do the following;

>File

>Compress Game Data (Include RTP needs to be ticked if you used any RTP stuff and the other Pc doesn't have RTP installed)

>Click OK

Once it's finished you should get a blue cube as an .exe file saved which is your compressed game :)

Where did you save/compress the game to? That sounds as if the target directory is either restricted or on a drive with too few space left.

I am not using steam, I got my software from the site. I saved my file on a new USB drive. And from you're saying, Mister Torgue, the file compression window should have an "OK" button should appear when it's done? That hasn't appeared.

I doubt this would actually affect file compression, but would using the trial version affect file compression?

No, the trial version should still be able to create the installer.

Please test if you can create the installer when saving on your desktop instead of the USB drive and copy it to the USB drive after the program has finished. If that works it's a problem with the drive - if not, the problem is in the program.

Ok, I myself am having a compression error. When I try to say a demo of my game, to test how it plays, by going through file, compress game data, and ok, the game goes through all the data on hand and then ends with "failed to compress game data" without giving a reason. I've been working on this game for months. What have I done wrong? What do I need to do to figure out why it isn't compressing right?

You can start by answering the question asked in the posts above: where do you try to compress the game to? Have you tried saving to your desktop?

I've got a file in my external harddrive dedicated to the game files. I had a demo created before but tonight it was telling me it couldn't compress it. Soooo, I deleted all the mp3 files I had for the game to see if the music was what was creating the issue and that did the trick. So now I'm going to have to convert all my mp3s into a different format. I'm thinking .wav or .ogg. Not sure which will give me an easier time. It was driving me nuts and then I thought of doing that. Thanks for getting back with me on the topic. If you have any advice on what music files is better to use, please let me know.

Did you try to recompress? I sometimes get this problem and I simply recompress and it works.

Several times over. Now I'm examining the mp3 files to make sure they're appropriately formatted. I think I need to try a .wav or .ogg format. Not sure if this will solve the problem though. Here's to hoping.

Now that you have succeeded in hijacking someone else's thread, I will ask you to create your own from now on. Your problem and their problem may be entirely different, and require different solutions. Talking about them both in the same thread only serves to confuse things. You can either sit patiently and try the suggestions made to the OP, or start your own thread so the OP can actually get the help he/she needs without everyone being diverted.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
