Hello all!

Boy that title sorta sounds a bit self-riotous. Couldn't really think of something else to call myself though.

Hello World! I work in video game development for a living! It's both my profession and my hobby. I'm not certain if I'm allowed to say the most recent title that I worked on (due to non-disclosure agreements), but it was a title that had a pretty big showcase at last years E3!

After a while of trying and failing to get a good project out in Unity, I realized what my issue was. I was using Unity and work and at home, meaning I was just getting burned out on it. Hence why I'm here!

I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone and getting into the community. I learned game development starting in RPG Maker VX Ace, so I'm quite excited with the idea of using the software again with everything that I've learned in the last few years.

My name is Nathan! I'm a developer, AI specialist, and public speaker on game development. I've done talks, workshops, and been part of panels about AI, Neural Networks, and the future of games. I'm currently 22, and working on a new RPG Maker MV game that will include a fair few mechanics that have a bit of depth, include a stealth system and debate system.

Hope to chat with you all!

Welcome here.

Gotta be tough to come back home after work every day and keep doing the same stuff, even as a hobby.

This is true. I thought it would be different enough because the type of stuff I was working on was different, but unfortunately not. Looking at the same engine and the same IDE all day took its toll. RPG Maker provides a completely different set of challenges, which is nice!

HI there, been creating games in my mind since forever and am finally trying to create a sample one. I look forward to seeing what kind of things you make!

May I ask, what is a "debate system" since what springs to my mind is you need to out talk the other person. Sounds cool but like a ton of dialogue needed!

For sure! I'll use the tutorial one as an example.

One of the characters at the start of the game isn't a fighter by any means. But she’s the charismatic one in the party.

In the tutorial debate, two rival groups are meeting to determine each other’s territories and boundaries. There will be a period before the debate where you can talk to your teammates and find out information about the person you’ll be debating with. If you find all the information, you’ll find that he respects people who are stern and forward, finds weakness in passiveness, and will go into a rage if his parents are brought up.

You can then use this information when debating the territory areas with him. The better you do, the more it will impact the game, as certain towns will just straightup not have enemies in them. Of course you’ll get rewarded xp for the better you do, ensuring you don’t lose out on that by not fighting enemies.

In later debates, the goal will be to stall a character, or the period before the debate will be spent searching their office rather than asking teammates, etc.

I wrote up my own dialogue editor in Unity which will export an RPG Maker JSON file that I can plug in to one of my events, making this process much easier.

Ok, phew, feared it was a computer programming term everyone but me knew :p

That sounds very interesting, I look forward to trying it.

I always told my DA fans how much I hate slot machines. They're fine in games as a risk-and-reward system. But when you're spending REAL MONEY in a Vegas casino to try and hit the jackpot (which very, very few people will), it can really hurt your budget. Gambling is a bad habit, and I don't like wasting my money on a slim chance. Go to Vegas for the experience, not the jackpot.
Took the kids to a corn maze. They gave us a map and had lights at certain points in the maze. Not overwhelming... or underwhelming... just... whelming.
