This just an idea I've had kicking around in my head for sometime (like years) and I figure I might flesh it out a bit here and then when I've finished my current project, I can try my hand at this. Leave me your thoughts, ideas and feedback. T.I.A.

Story/Plot
A lowly slime barely survives an encounter with a hero and limps(?) his way home. He's mad about his lot in life as just a exp grab for some dimwitted hero. He's tired of the oppression of those wandering brutes and their swords and spells.

He decides to fight back and create a safe place for slimes of all kinds to ooze about their lives.

This is his story...

Setting
You know the basic trope. A mob decides to be a hero, after some kind of miraculous event. But THIS time, it's a slime determined to make a safe space for him and his. The world is just like any RPG world with heroes, demon kings, dragons, etc and our gooey little friend has to overcome them. He'll need some help to avoid being a smear on some adventurer's boot. Can he recruit a strong enough team to all to accomplish his almost impossible goal?

SLIMES come in many different forms, based on environment/element:

Snots: Poison
Nectars: Healing
Magmas: Fire
Clays: Earth
Cubes: Ice
Mosses: Plant

Custards: Lightning
Gels: Water
Meringues: Air
Slags: Metal

Game Mechanics/Features
-Saga Frontier style combo attack: When two or more party members have a high enough affinity, they can unleash a Mega Skill.
-Fusion Skills (element): party members can gain skills that are a fusion of theirs and another members element.
-Expandable Kingdom map: The more members you recruit, the bigger your kingdom grows.
-Side-scrolling Maps: Because THEY'RE COOL!
-Sideview Battle System: Best fit for a game like this, IMHO...
-?Fusion?: Maybe the slimes can fuse together?

CHARACTERS
These are just concepts for now, will work to flesh these out over time.

That's it so far. Thoughts?

It's not a bad idea. I'd suggest adding more monster classes and expanding the slime's struggle to include all of the frequently hunted beings in RPGs.

Such as goblins, orcs, rats, imps, bats and the like. He could happen upon a friendly adventurer, a blue mage who doesn't learn skills from monsters, but instead by fighting humans. The game could get some variety by having you hunt "evil" monsters who don't want peace and desire only destruction.

Your idea for a sanctuary is pretty good. Perhaps a base you can build up and upgrade? Maybe you can rescue people from mountains and dungeons and then move them to your home, where they offer goods/services/quests?

This is almost exactly like the idea I have for the huge game I'm working on, funny how that comes about! (Just to be clear not accusing you of anything because that would be ridiculous of me, I just find it quite amusing!)

I obviously love the concept (because I wouldn't use it myself if I didn't) but they look to be very different games in execution. Are you going to have a smaller party or a larger amount of recruitable slimes to build your own party from? I'll be following this one so best of luck with it!

Those are some interesting ideas. I had been kicking some of them (something close) myself, I'll def see how I can use them! Thanks!!

Lol. I started (and am slowly still working on) a game of a similar idea called Slime Quest. It's funny how everyone always picks the slimes as the monster of choice to decide to take on the heroes. lol.

Just doing a trial run of the possible art style for this project. I'm shooting for a sideview, cartoony feel. Thoughts?

It's certainly interesting. Is that how the cutscenes will be? Will you draw the humans in a chibi style or make them taller? Is the slime meant to be knee size compared to a human?

They may get smaller. I might make a suitable style for humans. I'll have to kick out a few concepts and see what works.

What you've got so far works, but I feel the art style isn't as cartoony as the characters themselves, it works fine visually to me but for a more "cartoony feel" I feel that's not yet completely accomplished here, but the characters themself definitely fit a cartoony feel.

This actually makes me think of Kirby, haha.

Hmm... I might try and change up the backgrounds more. A I never even thought of the whole Kirby thing. LOL:LZScheeze:

Yeah lol.

I don't know, it looks good as it is to me, but for a cartoony look, I don't see that. The wood and door and the windows and walls seem more like a realistic look to me then cartoony, the door knob on second glance does look cartoony actually, but that's it other than the characters themselves.

I just typed something into google to see if I can get a "cartoony" look in comparison and these two look more like cartoony looks to me.

There just jpg and png images so they're safe to click on, hope that helps make it all make sense what I'm trying to say.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
