Hello everyone!  I am here to post up my RMMV gaming project that I am developing. :)  The game's title is called "Project: Minerva".

Staff please read this spoiler:

Since I am not exactly sure where I should post this topic, I decided to read this thread here:

I didn't meet the requirements to post my topic and that Project Development forum, however I wanted to keep all of my game's progression and ideas into one topic for the convenience. If this topic is still in the wrong place then can a Staff member please move it. :)

And now I would like to continue -

What's the setting like?
The game's setting takes place in a distant future where civilization on Earth is running scarce. The planet is in a bit of a captivity and is held in such a dystopian state of living. There are harsh conditions and laws to be followed, which eventually lead into the game's plot.

So what's this game about?
So this game is about survival. No, it isn't a survival-esque game, but the message for most of the game is to simply stay alive and do what you would normally do on a day-to-day basis. There are no heroes/heroines in this game. You climb through the lives of people who may or may not have an impact on the story. It's totally up to you. There is no "chosen one" or evil lord. There is only you. Another message in the game may give off the impression of trusting no one, but as the story develops you will realize more elements that present the characters you control which much bigger roles, but it is solely up to your decision-making to make that happen.

What genre is this going to be classified under?
This is an RPG in both genre and traditional sense. However, there are influences from both jRPG and wRPG elements. Although it may or may not be to your liking, but the graphics are limited to 2D, but I will try my best with the help of graphic artists to produce the best 2D quality game art that I can and hope you guys enjoy it.

Any fun features?
Features in the game will include decision-making that may affect a character's role in the story. Being an RPG, there will of course be leveling of characters as well as class/job development to help improve your characters' battle experience. A Tactical Battle System will hopefully be implemented (for the software I'm using, that could take a while so I'll have to recruit from people for that specific job). There'll be tons of mini games as well as a user-friendly tutorial. I'm going to make the class/job system as open and diverse as I can, with tons of different ways to build your characters. I have a bunch of other ideas jumping around in my head, but I'll add on to them as I begin to get feedback from you all. :)

A small part of the backstory

It is the year 111 IC; 113 years after the events of the Interstellar Colonization project. 114 years ago the Earth had been visited by foreigners not known nor detected by the technological advances of their solar system during that time period. What seemed to have first been an intergalactic treaty among worlds quickly turned into war for human survival. More than 41% of the Earth's population had been wiped out from these interstellar travelers, as well as most of Earth's artificial resources and technology.

The Interstellar Colonization project changed the very core of human civilization. With limited technology and resources, the remaining of our human race are forced to survive on the bare essentials of living and instinct. Any signs of technological advancements would immediately be taken away from us. No longer were we free. Perhaps we never were truly free to begin with.

A struggle between ignorance and intelligence resurfaces to humanity's top priority as we begin to learn about our new visitors and possibly our past.

Author notes

It is implied that these space travelers may hold some sort of connection towards humans, rather than the planet and solar system that they are inhabited on. The plot is manifested only after the events of IC had resolved.

Meet the characters

Here I will not release all of the information about the character, but just enough for you guys to give me some feedback. :)  I will not release a bio for all of the characters as well, yet, although I have a bunch of them completed already. I will showcase two of the main characters for now, however. :)

Meet the characters: Sully

Name: Landon Y'lhyll (revealed later on in the story)
Nickname: Sully
Race: Human; Cyborg
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Appearance:

Height: 6'0 / 182cm
Weight: 160lbs / 73kg
Biography: Sully is a relic of history's tragic events that led to the beginning of the
Interstellar Colonization. His duty was to defend and help fortify the Earth's nations and
to carry out the orders given to him by the United Earth Divisions Confederation
(U.E.D.C.).

The young man's own personal tragedies have unfortunately led him to become incapacitated
long before the war even began. Having almost all but his very essence of life taken from
him in a traumatic incident, Sully managed to survive after being rescued and taken in by a
secret society that mechanically rebuilt some of his body structure and well being, but
also used artificial human ligaments to help him gain stability for both structures of his
body.

Personality: As an agent of the U.E.D.C., strict rules and discipline were embedded into
the soldiers. The specific division that Sully was a part of was a special unit where the
most harsh and death-nearing practices were instilled into the soldier there.

Sully's training and mission experiences have gradually made him become nearly mute, only
answering to a few select people. This being the case that (according to the practices of
his squadron) any information leaked was considered a failed mission. His unit was trained
to be of, and quote, "A ghost; a withering spirit come to sweep up any and all disarray
caused by the living.". This leads him to become quite the typical quiet type until he
later meets people who he can trust.

Sully is calm and rather kind-hearted and respectful, despite his occupation. He follows
the orders given to him with unwavering loyalty, even if it is to take someone's life away.
He is proud in his abilities and strength and enjoys testing and pushing them to their
limits.

Meet the characters: Maya

Name: Maya Sheppards
Nickname: Maya
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Appearance:

Height: 5'4 / 163cm
Weight: 121lbs / 55kg
Biography: From a young age, Maya has been raised by the local orphanage near her place of origin. It is said that her parents were both victims of a violent robbery that occurred when Maya was only four years of age. Currently, Maya does not seem to ponder much about it, but she has definitely moved on from those tragic times and continued on into her career.

Maya was first introduced into the art of combat at the age 11. A serviceman; veteran of her nation's military illegally helped construct custom firearms for a living after his discharge. Younger Maya would stop by his shop everyday to watch how he developed the weapons. In such a dystopian era, the man eventually taught Maya some of his knowledge of combat so that she may later know how to defend herself. The veteran began to grow fond of her and her combat progression. He decided to teach her about shooting firearms. It would then seem as though Maya had a natural talent for such a course.

The veteran became the father that Maya never had a chance to truly have. She felt loved and nurtured, as well as strong-minded and fierce, thanks to the man. It would only be later on that local authorities had finally caught up with the veteran and charged him for all of the crimes (illegal production and distribution of weapons) that he had done. They ordered a public execution to remind the rest of the citizens in Maya's town of what would happen if such laws were broken again.

Devastated and traumatized after watching such an event, Maya ran away and out of her town with a bag of clothes and a few rations to eat. In only a few days, she began to come down with a sickness, as she was eating less and unable to take care of herself where no civilization lay. She then passed out for a while only to wake up abroad a spacecraft of some sorts. The other people on board told her what had happened and that she was now at the mercy of their commander, which they only referred to him as "Lieutenant".

The Lieutenant offered Maya a job in exchange for saving her life and giving her a temporary stay at a local space colony station. Maya complied with the fact knowing that her job consisted of collecting bounties for the crew and splitting it among each other. Not an earnest living for Maya, but it helps pay off her debt. And so she ventures across both Earth and other space colony sections to collect up on bounties in order to make a living. It wouldn't be until later on in the future that fate would have something special in store for her...

Personality: The queen of sassiness; Maya can be rather skeptical of many things and lure people on with her offensive sarcasm that mostly gets her in trouble. Despite her feisty attitude with most audiences that she is faced with, her true emotions lie down deep inside of her which expose her insecurities of loving someone, since all of her loved ones have been killed. She's good with the public and can make many acquaintances, but cannot make many friends due to her being scared of losing them. When she takes on a job, she usually goes in solo or in rare cases will hire someone to work with her only for the duration of the job, resolving with them parting ways after the job would be completed.

The characters are lovely, wow!

So am I reading this right to say the story will be taking place on a spaceship? It says Maya lives on one, but it may be that they land and the story continues from there? The premise sound interesting. When you say there are different jobs, are there only military based ones, or will there be things like 'farmer', 'doctor', and such?

Hi and thank you for taking interest in my project. :)

Maya's story job is being a bounty hunter. There are civilizations on Earth and in space. The ones in space inhabit themselves inside colonized space stations. So bounty hunters look for and collect their bounty from both Earth and the space stations. :)

Oh there are a plethora of class jobs. Story jobs aren't really important. They are what help give a character more or less of a distinct role. Class jobs is basically class advancement. You would start off for example, a basic Knight class, right? Then as you gain experience and level up, you may advance into say a Paladin sub class or Dark Knight sub class. In this game they will be called jobs however, to dismiss the fantasy vibe that class may associate itself with.

By the way, there won't be fantasy jobs like Mage or Knight in this game. Although there may be some sci-fi to this game, I want to keep a lot of the aspects relative to what could happen in a somewhat realistic distant future. If you want a Mage-like character well there will bea few characters with the ability of telekinesis. They are called ESP or Esper and poses the ability of telepathy. Most jobs also have a small backstory alongside with them so that they just don't seem as random. :)

Race & Species Guide

This is a guide that will help you familiarize with the races and species being used in the game. Races are used to describe characters while species are used to describe common enemies.

List of Races and their meanings and/or origin:

- Human: One of planet Earth's natural inhabitants. Most humans reside on planet Earth, although some humans have built civilizations on space stations that orbit their solar system.

- Cyborg: Cyborgs are a sub-race of humans. They carry both living flesh and mechanical enhancements. They are not robots nor are they androids.

- Esper: Espers are another sub-race of humans. These people are genetically enhanced humans who were used as test subjects for science in order to artificially create telekinetic powerful super humans. The project ultimately failed with a severe backlash of wiping out a substantial amount of the human population in some regions around the globe. The humans pushed technology too far in hopes of creating the "perfect human" to win the war against the Sentinels, which ended up backfiring on them because of an unknown deadly virus that spread within the experiments and caused fatal biochemical reactions, ensuring their demise. Descendants of the first generation of Esper currently still roam the Earth, mostly being secluded off from society in fear of another outbreak. Espers are generally looked down upon and are treated poorly and unfairly.

- Sentinel: Beings of the purest light who cannot be seen with the natural eye nor sensed with any natural or technological receivers. It is believed that these beings are on a higher plane of existence and can only be seen if they so allow themselves to through physical manifestation. These are the travelers that came to Earth peacefully to which humans responded back negatively and eventually caused the war between the two races. Having almost destroying the human race, the Sentinels had realized how impure and neglected the Earth had become, and in so, decided to cease the war and rebuild the dying planet. Sentinels did not allow humans to interfere with their restoration process of Earth, to which they put all human life into captivity and stripped them of most of their technological advances.

- Sentinel Providence: A story passed down from generations upon generations of Sentinels that depict a being whose death was revitalized by it's own will and thus regained a higher consciousness that allowed the being to transcend onto higher planes of existence and be reborn as the first Sentinel.

List of Species and their meanings and/or origin:

- Human: Common enemies who are humans. Usually scavengers who will try to mug anyone for anything worthwhile or practically useless.

- Hologram: Illegal technological trajectory of lasers that form a pre-made holographic image. The lasers used can harm individuals, but the hologram itself cannot be harmed unless turned off via a control center.

- Earth (animal kingdom): Examples of these species would be dogs, cats, birds, etc. (To which case, you may simply put "dog" or "cat" or what have you).

- Machine: Functional robots or androids, as well as scrap metal and anything else regarding the use of mechanical wiring to power an object

The character art is so lovely! And I love the story and concept behind it. I think the 2nd spriting would suit it.

Thank you for the feedback you two. :)

So 2nd is preferred? Okay, I will talk to the pixel artist about it. Maybe add a few adjustments here and there.

I love all the sprite styles, but to me, the third or second matches the genre and plot the most.

As for the game itself: it sounds awesome! I love sci-fi and futuristic games! And when I read this I got a Star Citizen feel—which is, again, awesome! I will be keeping an eye on this forum. It is bound to become a best seller on Steam!

Small update: Very early concept short animation clip of intro to Chapter 1 in the game.

- Should note that there will be chapters in the game (basically a rather small timeskip happens between  post-chapter (after chapter 1) and a small animation will be played for each intro to another chapter, followed by a recap of events in the past chapter)

So here we have one of the main characters Sully, stranded and lost in a desert. Since Sully will be the first character you play as, this animation will serve as an intro to Chapter 1 of the story. Please keep in mind this animation may not reflect the final draft of the animation and possible drawing style.

Even though in early concept of an animation, what are you guys' thoughts about it?

Mihe, please refrain from necro-posting in a thread. Necro-posting is posting in a thread that has not had posting activity in over 30 days. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

Mihe, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

Furthermore, this was the wrong forum for the original post.  This forum is for discussing general principles of game making, not for posting details of a particular project.  Please start a thread in the 'Early Project Feedback' forum, having carefully read the Rules for posting there.  That is a thread where the normal rules about necro-posting do not apply.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
