Encrypt data when you export. That's an option

That can be broken in 5 seconds. I've done it before on my own game.

First of all, it is illegal for someone to crack the encryption, so if they do you can go after them. Secondly, any protection can be broken. AAA companies shell out thousands for protection and most of them are cracked within 24 hours. You'll never find a foolproof method.

Going after them would certainly be an option.

Do I have the money for that though? I do not. And if the guy lives in another country, it really complicates the matter and skyrockets the cost by ten fold.

AAA companies have the means to go after them. This fact alone deters most script kiddies.
We (Indie devs) do not.

However, I will say that lack of proper protection is not a fault of MV's. It is rather a fault of the code they chose which is html and java.

Hi, most comments are probably towards RPG Maker here. But since you asked this in VN Maker Sub-Forum, in VN Maker however, if you select Game > Create Game Package there is check box "Encrypt Content" which will encrypt your assets so they cannot be opened/seen/edited anymore. However, Video Assets cannot be encrypted. I think in RPG Maker it is similar.

However, as others already have mentioned, no encryption is really safe. Encryptions can be figured out by hackers and then shared with everyone. People can also steals assets just by doing screenshots of your running game or recording the music.

The thing about encryption is more that no one can super easily get your assets by simply browse the folder and copy-paste everything and also to fulfill certain license agreements forcing you to encrypt your assets. But if someone really wants to get your assets, that person will find some way.

But even then, if someone tries to sell a game with stolen assets in a Store like Steam, if you can verify you are the true author you can force them to take the game down quickly I think.

Hope that helps.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
