Protocol for sharing original music or art from shared games

Today I downloaded a cool game called  New Genesis.


As I was playing, I started a battle in the game. It turns out that an original song I created was used as the battle music. 


The only thing I can think is that in my The Cave game, I had some original music in the resources.


The creator of the game gave no specific mention of where he/she got the music, which was frustrating.


Any ideas as to how that might have happened?


Grrr. I would be fine with having people use something I've made as long I got credit.

They definitely don't have the right to use your track without your permission, and not giving credit just makes it worse.  I would be following it up - get the game taken down, complain to whoever is hosting the game.  Also look around to find out where he got it - chances are it's out there somewhere being advertised as a free resource by someone who wants brownie points by providing resources they didn't create, and lots of people probably have it by now.


Where'd you get the game?


Also what does this have to do with RPG Creator?  Is the game made in that engine?

It is a game made for RPG Creator.


I downloaded New Genesis as one of the new games available to play in English from the Creator's Web on RPG Creator.The author states that all credit for music goes out to its respective creators, but no specifics are mentioned. Maybe he was trying to give credit in that way. I don't know. Confusing.


I just looked at an even even newer upload v 1.0.1 and apparently according to the author the music on the new version is from the original creators, so perhaps that means that Absolchemist saw this thread and made a modification. That would be very cool if that's what happened.


Edit: Actually, as I just tried a battle in the newer updated version, it still has my music, but you know, I am kind of flattered that someone liked the music...it's not like it's a fully orchestrated masterpiece.Just a "battle music by Pagerron"would have been cool, you know. It's not like he's making money off of it...Still thinking about this one.

That's not the right way to give credit.  He needs to name each person, and to make sure he's got permission to use the resources.  He's just chosen the lazy person's way to claim he's giving credit without actually doing any of the work.  If he really respected the people who made the resources he's using, he would show it by giving credit properly.


I still believe you need to follow this up.  If you're happy for him to use it, let him know that, but let him know he NEEDS to state who it was made by.

I agree with Shaz, follow up needs to happen, as, even if you are okay with it, he probably did the same to many other creators who would not be okay with it.
