Hi everybody!!

RPG Girl here! Complete Newbie, but excited to get started.

I bought my copy of RPG Maker MV on humble bundle a couple years ago - it came as a steam key. I installed steam and got the software running fine. It seems to open steam whenever I run RPG Maker MV (again - newbie!).

I see there is a currently sale on most resources on rpgmakerweb.com now. The prices of the resource packs are all half of what they cost to buy directly on steam.

If I buy the resource packs from rpgmakerweb.com, will they be compatible with the RPG Maker MV software that I have running through Steam?
I am not sure if resource packs from rpgmakerweb.com will only work with the standalone RPG Maker MV software (eg., if I bought RPG Maker MV directly from rpgmakerweb.com, not through humble bundle as a steam key).

Yes, they will be compatible with the Steam version. There is no difference between the two versions of RPG Maker MV (save for some Steam based stuff for the Steam one but the coding/content is the same).

They will be downloaded just like any kind of download so you will need to manually select where you are placing them as opposed to Steam's download into the Steam folder.

Thanks - where should I place the downloaded files?

Also, if I buy a bunch of resources while they are on sale, and then later change to a new PC or from PC to Mac, will the resources work with my future new computer as well?

That would be up to you.

For convenience sake, I'd say to put it in the same folder as the Steam DLC folder for RPG Maker MV (for example, on Windows 10, mine ends in steamapps\common\RPG Maker MV\dlc) which will keep it with other things you've downloaded for MV on Steam. If you're not comfortable with sorting out folders, it should be fine saved to either Downloads or Documents (first is generally default and the second is if you like to clear out your Downloads folder from time to time).

You can also add the new content to your default games but I don't recommend that as it will make the game file bigger when you're done. It's just easier to move the pieces you want into the appropriate folders once you have started working on a game.

Provided you are still the only person using the content, the resources are yours and you can use them on PC or Mac as long as you still have a valid license for RPG Maker MV (or one of the other RPG Maker products). I don't believe there is a limit on the amount of computers they can be downloaded to. Some do have time frames listed as part of their expiry on the website but as far as I know, the content is still yours past that date.

any place you want. you need to be able to find that place to copy the resources into the projects where you want to use them (with the resource manager), but that is the only requirement.

as for a different computer: just copy the files as you would any other backup, or re-download them later again

OK, I bought a few resource items - a battler pack, the kid generator add-on, and the RPG Maker Essentials pack.

How do I import these for use into my game?

The generator parts need to go into the generator folder wherever you have MV installed. The other resources can be copied directly into the appropriate folder in your project.

I wasn't able to figure out how to add my newly purchased resources -

Do I use the resource manager on the toolbar on RMMV, or am I using the windows file explorer to copy the files from the dlc folder to somewhere else on my hard drive?

both options can be used - you just need to make sure that they go into the correct subfolders.
If you're new to the engine that is often easier with the resource manager as that is setup in the correct folder structure, but it is also slower as it requires to go by single files.
That is why a lot of people start using the file explorer once they know what goes where as they can mass-copy that way.

the biggest problem are the generator parts, because the generator parts need to be renamed based on your own current generator. To function correctly the generator requires all parts to be numbered in sequence without any skipped numbers - which means that each generator is different based on what parts had already been added, and the purchased parts can't be prepared with the correct numbers in advance.
If you search the tutorials section of this forum, there is a number of tutorials specifically on how to add parts to the character generator because of this.

Definitely make a backup of the generator folder before you add anything to it or make any changes. If you get it wrong, you'll have to reinstall MV to get back to the original generator.
