I'm genuinely surprised that you've seen a lot of bad reviews for a lot of the resources, because they are all done to a high professional standard.  Sometimes people badmouth a pack because they didn't understand what they were buying beforehand and then, because it wasn't what they were looking for, they vent their irritation.  But that is not the fault of the pack.

I think it would be helpful if you could be a bit more specific about which packs you were interested in, because there are so many, it's not possible to give info on all of them.

Personally, I like the DS and DS+ pack. If you cannot afford a composer they come with 20 audio tracks each, and are worth it just for those alone. One problem you will run into is most of the DS tiles and sprites look funny next to the RTP sprites, so you will either want to go all DS/DS+ sprites or not use them at all. Might be pricy but if you can grab them while Steam has them on sale I think you will like them for the music alone, even if you don't use the rest of the pack.

High Fantasy is a style all of it's own, its best to either go all high fantasy or not at all. I think there is a game recently released that uses all High Fantasy style, so maybe try to find it and see if that is what you want to go for?

I've gotten good use out of the Rural Tile set, as it matches pretty well with the RTP in my opinion. Helps add some life to your farm and farm towns. Sure, some things are of off size, but that can be edited.

Most of the rest of the tile sets require you to copy and paste them into another tile set to use, and that might be where the bad reviews are coming from, as (at least I personally) don't feel that is well communicated to buyers, especially on steam. For example, Winter Wonderland has maybe 10 tiles in each of the sets, which is pretty bare on its own. But, if you copy and paste them into another tile set, they work better.

I think the other issue the others are having that are reviewing these tile sets is it feels like few of them match up with the RTP well, so its either convert everything all to these new tile sets, or forget about them. There's a post on here of which tile sets match up with which, which I think probably should be better communicated to buyers.

Here's the post on what matches with what. http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/26268-which-graphic-pack-matches-with-which/

Edit: DS+ has some sci-fi. However, in general, there is not a lot of sci-fi tiles right now.

People expect 1000+ objects + music + sprites for $5, which is just not going to happen. The higher the price, the more content it offers.

All our resource packs are of professional standard, please read the description and look at the screenshots to get a better feel of the pack.

Pick your style, and buy the stuff. On sale now for a song on steam, for goodness sake.

I bought the whole Modern Day Tile set because I wanted a dumpster. Sound financial decision.

I had already spent over an hour on a dumpster I did not like.

I would have easily spent another hour.

My time is worth $15.00 right? And for that amount of money, I got exactly what I wanted - a dumpster tile - plus a boatload of other things.

The futuristic tileset is an ENTIRE tileset.

Zombie set has even more modern stuff. Sci Fi backgrounds are incredible.

This is what you call bargains.

DS and DS+ (and DS+ sci-fi) together give quite a bit of content. I think the main "issue" is lack of compatible tilesets since there's such a variety of different ones across the products. However, Palladinthug can make DS sprites, and I imagine there's a lot more out there for the other styles.

I can recommend DS+, Futuristic Tiles and Sci-fi Tiles.  The latter two can actually complement each other if you do it right.  I haven't tested it just yet but there's also Frontier Works Futuristic Heroes and BGM, if you use those characters with the Futuristic Tiles you might get something closer to what you're looking for.

People even complain about the free-stuff you can get sometimes, that's why it's best to research each pack and form your own opinion on them, people will complain about anything if you give them the chance.  They're really not expensive for what you get, particularly on sale like they are now.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
