I have recently purchased two asset packs: Pixel Myth ~Germania~ and Always Sometimes Monster. I would like to use this in one  of my games. Although I don't know if I will publish or even sell the game, I do not know the legal restrictions behind such assets in the case that I do, mainly because I've never done that.

Is it alright for me to modify and use these assets?

Should I still credit the assets and their creators?

How about in the case of free tilesets and graphics?

The requirements and options are always given in the EULA included with the shop packs - there are some small differences depending on the artist, so you have to check independently for each pack.

However, Credit is always required (see the EULA on who to credit), all shop resources are allowed for commercial use.

In the case of other resources (not from shop) you always have to check the individual artist's terms-of-service, as they can be anything - you need to make sure to follow each TOS for each resource you use in your games.

That is because a lot of the "free" resources are only free for non-commercial, and you have to check what is required for commercial use.

For resources purchased from the store, you can use them in games you publish, whether they're free or commercial - you MUST use one of the RPG Maker engines to make your game though. If you want to use something different like Unity or an engine you build yourself, you need to purchase the non-RM license from Game Dev Fort, which costs considerably more for the greater flexibility.

You are allowed to make edits, but you are not allowed to share the edits with others.

There is usually a readme file containing information for credits.

Does this mean that we are allowed to modify the order of sprites or tiles, or change colours of them, as long as we don't redistribute them?

Ki _noot: Everything Shaz and everyone else said, and when in doubt, even if there is no explicit EULA included, always give full credit to any contributor(s) to your project(s), whether they are free or purchased. It's so much better for your game and for the universe if you include all of the talented people who helped you get it where it is! To credit properly, you can include the names of people, and/or the company-publisher's name in your game's txt/readme file and easily create background images or events for displaying credits in-game, or you can use a game credit script such as this for example: XS - Credits Script Thank you Nicke

For the most part, almost all of the art resources here published by Degica will work and look good together if you want to combine/edit them for your game. It's a good way to make your game look a little more unique and your purchases help to support talented artists, composers and programmers who can then make more assets!

I bought and used 4 different resource packs for my last personal project and was able to make a lot more by combining them in Photoshop. Pixel art is not my strong suit, so for my FF throw-back, it was awesome and saved me a lot of time and money.  ;)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
