Randomizing the PC

I'm messing around with an idea. The PC has a child and then the generation shifts and you play as said child. The child's appearance is based on a set of variables and switches (species and elemental affinity).

I know how to consistently change the PC name and sprite but I was wondering if there was a way to use the correct face for each different child with out knowing which child the Player will choose.

You mean like in the Menu, or in a Text Box?

If in the Menu:

In the 3rd Event Command page, the option "Change Actor Graphic" works for both Sprites and Facesets.

If in a Text Box:

You could use some Conditional Branch events or Switch events that will define the actor's faceset for the same text box or dialog.

I mean in the textbox. How exactly would I pull that off, what would the event look like?

If you don't want to create dozens of different messages and conditional branches for each place where the kid will tak, then use Hime's Placeholder Graphics script and work with the Actor placeholder type.

From now on, ask these kinds of questions in the VX Ace Support subforum (or the RGSS3 Script Requests subforum if you think the solution will require scripting).  Game Mechanics Design is (somewhat confusingly) only for conceptual game design topics rather than how-to mechanical questions.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
