I hope this gives people a few new ideas for their npcs, though I’ll admit that I do have a certain fondness for those random villagers whose only comment is a complaint about their neighbor.
If you have any evented systems or concepts you’d like to see tutorials for, please let me know! I’m always open to suggestions.
@hiddenone cutscenes! I feel like it takes me 3 hours just to get a 30 second sequence right. Given how important they are to a game's narrative, and how the difficulty of making them tends to "spike" compared to other engine features, I think this would be a great topic for a future tutorial.
Love it, this is a very nice tutorial!
I would be interested in maybe a 2nd tutorial centered around npcs. This time maybe a simple routine they have, visiting different places in a village etc. But I don't know, if it can be evented.
If only all fair town maidens didn't mind you trespassing on their yard and rummaging through their trash.
As for evented concepts as a tutorial, I agree with @jonthefox about cutscenes. They're very important and time consuming, so any guidance on the topic is always appreciated.
Thank you @hiddenone for the tutorial. I am really happy that you made the tutorial about the dialogues. I think of the ideas after reading and following your tutorial steps.
I think I will split the dialogues of the lore/interest information to 3 or 4 mini dialogues to encourage the players to be less stressed about reading the wall of texts.
So I could just feed to players' information more slowly.
Also, thank you for teaching me about little javascript knowledge.
Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
