I missed the freebies, but decided to buy the game on sale. I mean at that price point it's not much : D

I'll post back after my initial impressions. I probably won't have time to finish this anytime soon, but brief impressions are better than nothing I guess?

That's an unusual sequence of events. Usually, a developer would publish the game first on Aldorlea as a timed exclusive, which is the only - if at all - reason to buy something on this platform where everything is overpriced. Your game is available since the end of August last year on Steam for a reasonable price, but on Aldorlea it costs four times as much.

I really hope that you get something out of this Aldorlea deal, since I like your games, but honestly: I would be willing to pay twice as much for your games on Steam, but I won't ever buy your games (or anything else) on Aldorlea. The only good thing about Aldorlea is that its customers serve as game testers (for timed exclusives), hopefully reducing the number of bugs that can be found when the game in question is finally released on Steam or elsewhere.

While I don't know about Aldorlea's share, it is said that Steam takes 30% of a developer's earnings. Even though you probably earn more money when someone buys your game on Aldorlea instead of Steam, there isn't really an incentive to do this for an informed buyer.

Well, I hope this post won't be the reason that Blue Skies 3 will turn out to be a timed exclusive on Aldorlea. :D

Hello @Spermidine ! I appreciate your informational comment about this decision. ^_^ I'm gonna have to be very honest and transparent here... I had no idea what I was doing when I first started working on Rave Heart's commercial-ness, having it be my first ever commercial release haha. So I did not know anything about the process of getting publishers and whatnot, and I didn't know there was a way to have a timed exclusive in Aldorlea. >.< But with that said, I can say I have no regrets and I'm happy to have learned this through my journey and today from you at the same time, Spermidine. ^_^ I fully respect anyone's decision whether they decide to buy the game on Aldorlea or not, as it is within everyone's rights. ;) All I really wish was for the game to hopefully reach more people. ^_^ And me being a fan of many games from Aldorlea site (Having played the Aveyond series and etc.) it is a huge enough honor for me to have a game on the site. :D

Though at least, because of this experience, I have learned some things for BlueSkies 3's release in the future... And hopefully, I can apply them during those times. :D <3 ^^ Thanks so much again, Spermidine for sharing your thoughts about this! :D ^^

Congrats on the Aldorlea release, Starmage! I gotta admit, I've seen your game pop up a *bunch* of times all over the place, and I've kept meaning to say something to you and kept forgetting :/ I love the artstyle, esp the cover art!

Also I really would recommend looking into implementing a mouse control system (among other QoL things, like easy fullscreen access, exit game buttons and easier difficulties if you don't have any already) if you can--a lotta folks on Aldorlea play *much* more casually than Steam users, in my experience.

It's not nearly as uncommon as you'd think, though. A lot of us end up releasing on Aldorlea after Steam just because we weren't aware that Aldorlea even existed beforehand. I have quite a few commercial games, and to this day I've only managed to release 1 as a timed exclusive (all the others released on Steam first).

I won't name the exact cut Aldorlea takes--but combining Indinera's share of the profits and the fee from BMTMicro (the payment processor), it's essentially double what Steam takes. That's part of why games there cost so much more.

Another part is that, honestly, the folks there are just willing to pay more. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Aldorlea audience skews much older (middle-late aged), and though a good number of them will check Steam first, many of them don't use Steam at all and don't mind paying higher prices to help support the developers.

Thank you so much for the kind words @jkweath ! ^_^ <3 I've also seen your amazing project on twitter and I can't wait to get my hands on it once it has released! :D

And yes you're right haha! I'm still kinda figuring out how I can make the mouse scripts compatible with my plugins >.< since I encounter some issues when I try 'em, and it's also not helping that I'm a newb at how scripts' load order works, so maybe I did something wrong in that regard. xD

But yah! Its great to know firsthand that a lot of players in Aldorlea fall more on the Casual side. ^_^ Thanks so much again jkweath!! :D

Actually in my experience most of them are more hard core than Steam users. I had a few play mine on the hardest option and ask for an even harder mode, so I added one in late for those people. But there are a few who do also like story modes and such too. But I think you can say that about the audience anywhere really.

What I've noticed overall though is there are some who will only buy games on Steam, and some who hate Steam and avoid it at all costs. Putting your game in multiple spots gives you options.

Plus since aldorlea specializes in RPGMaker games you know those who go there want to play RPGMaker games. So I figure it makes sense to release there for that reason too.

(And hi Starmage! I know we've chatted on other sites before but probably not as much on here).

Hello BG! ^_^ And yes, that is so great to know!! :D I do love catering to both hardcore and casual RPG gamers in my games. xD :D And yep! I also noticed that some people prefer to buy on Steam, and others prefer not to buy it on steam. ^_^ Which is why I always love to have more options on where people can get my games! And Aldorlea seems like a great spot to reach people who like RPG maker games, as they are known for their abundant release of great RPG maker games! <3

Fair point. You've sold more copies on Aldorlea than I have, so you're probably right.

Kinda silly for me to label them "casual" when the top-selling games there are always 40+ hour RPGs, haha.

Regardless, I've noticed from browsing game threads that users on Aldorlea do seem to pay much more attention to small quality of life details like the stuff I've pointed out, things that people on Steam usually don't point out as often.

Well to be fair, my game was only available on aldorlea for a lot longer too. So its not an exact comparison to your situation too.

But enough on that. I still need to play Starmage's game sometime so I can offer feedback on it too. I got like 3 others ahead of it so maybe sometime late 2021?

Wow, this looks really good. I love the art style and story blurb! On a side note, the music in the trailer is SO good. Adding to my wishlist on steam, I'll be sure to leave a review after I've played it for you :)
