Ray's Tailored Music Workshop

Standard music themes and game-tailored soundtracks

Standards Themes Status: OPEN
Tailored Soundtrack Status: OPEN

A few things to include in your request for standard tracks (battle themes, field/town soundtracks etc.) which will help ensure you get what you are looking for. Please request these one at a time, for a full tailored game soundtrack, read on below.

  • A Theme - It helps if you have an emotion or a scene with which to set the mood of the music you need. It doesn't need to be heavily detailed, just enough so your 'long lost love reunion' scene doesn't have a heavy metal sci-fi soundwall. Unless that's what you want of course. The more detail the better but don't get hung up on it, key motifs work best here to ensure you get what you envision. This is almost the only vital information needed, please take time in considering what it is you want to portray.
  • A Genre - Not required in the least since this is a highly subjective area when you get into details, but include if you have a solid genre in mind.
  • Orchestration - If you hear violins, soft piano and some funky horn section with a distorted guitar soloing over a jazz drum kit, let me know! Not necessary but if you have instruments in mind please do include them.
  • Loops? - Does it have to loop? Will it be playing in the background over a period of time and then fade out? Make a note for me.
  • File output - high quality .wav or .flac? .mp3 or .ogg? It matters not, but please include if you require a specific compression output.
  • Examples - a link to some examples is always nice, preferably more than one to help narrow down what it is you are after rather than just one, which might get you some sort of rehash of your favorite RPG song rather than some thing that's for you :p (Thanks HotFireLegend)

Standard Track Request Example

Spoiler

Hi there! I need music for a town in my game. It's like a snowy mountain village the player stops in before heading through the mountains.

Theme: Just a laidback track, not too fast. Something with a christmas feel to it maybe.
Genre: I'm not sure, I'll leave this up to you.
Orchestration: Well I'm thinking bells. I'm not sure about the rest but it should have bells in it.
Loops?: Yea I need it to loop. Doesn't matter how long, so long as there is no dead air between the loop.
File output: .ogg would be great!

Additional info for tailored works (the above to be included also):

  • I will only be able to work on one game at a time. The status will be updated at the top of this post along with roughly how long before it opens again.
  • If you wish for a full in-depth soundtrack with specific character themes; town themes; random and specific boss battler themes etc. it will be much faster the more developed the game is, especially the story. I have no qualms about working on all of these in a truly DEVELOPED story or preferably a almost completed game, BUT I cannot add music piecemeal as you flesh out your ideas, it just wouldn't be fair on me or anyone waiting with a request if I'm waiting on story themes to be fully understood.
  • If you want a soundtrack for just a specific scene in-game, a storyboard with time notes or preferably a demo scene to work with will give you a perfectly tailored accompanying soundtrack. You can simply post all within this thread.
  • If you are interested in a full-tailored soundtrack, please make a post with approximate work load (8 character themes, 20 battle and boss themes, 12 town themes etc) and I will get back to you on a first come basis via PM as this will all be done via email or other communication rather than spam this thread.

Tailored Scene Request Example

Spoiler

I need some music for when my player meets an old friend. They were childhood friends and I'd like the music to move along with the scene as they talk about the good times and the bad.

Here is a demo of the scene: Link
OR
Here is a quick storyboard with time notes:Link

Theme, Genre, Orchestration?
Just something that plays along with the changing moods in the scene. I'd quite like a piano and orchestra playing but I'll leave the rest up to you.

In Depth-Tailored Request Example

Spoiler

I'd like to get a full tailored soundtrack for my game.

I'd need tracks for the following:
The Title
The Credits (variation on the title maybe)
10 player character themes
6 Antagonist themes
A few random battlers
15 unique boss battles
24 towns
Maybe 10-20 short event scenes
A level up jingle

I'll send you a demo of the game that's almost 3/4 complete, just finishing it off.
OR
I have the full story and everything complete, I know the details of all the tracks I'd like. The game is a WiP.
I think that's most of it. Get in touch when you are available. Thanks!

This work shop is free for any non commercial game, requiring only 1) credit and 2) only for RPG Maker series creations. I also reserve the right to allow any music made through this workshop be available to the community here free of charge for any other project. You can PM if you are interested otherwise to open talks about your commercial game, but not on this thread, thanks.

Hello!

I have been looking for a musician to compose the soundtrack to my game. As of right now, I definitely know that I will need tracks for the following:

The Title Screen

The Credits (probably a reprise of the title screen)

At least eight Player Character Themes

At least three (concrete number pending) antagonist themes

Random Encounter theme

Boss Battle themes (number pending)

Town themes (number pending)

A level up jingle

I have the full story mostly complete, the scripting process is well under way, we have artists onboard, and programming has begun. The game is a WiP.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to do business with you shortly.

PS: The dev team uses Skype for communication and file-sharing purposes. If you have an account, please let me know.

Hiya, requesting a standard theme:

Theme: A final boss battle. Something majestic, which gets your blood pumping.

Genre: a mix of reggae and rock.

Orchestration: drums! And anything else needed for the reggae, like a xylophone.

Loops?: A loop would be great, with a silence.

File output: .ogg.

An example: (2:30 to end of song, would be great if it had more strength to its beats though)

2nd example: (0:10 onwards, with less jauntiness and no vocal)

Different genre example:

If you want to see a sample of what the final battle will be like (and how important it is) for inspiration, let me know.

Thanks very much! :D

Hiya Hotfire,

Yea I'm gathering it's rather an important battle from what you posted, perhaps a sample would help (certainly wouldn't hurt).

Also I need a little clarification. A loop with a silence? So you want it to fade in and out, or you want it to stop in dead silence, perhaps after a build up. A little more specific on that, I'm not quite sure what you are asking for.

Thanks

[edit] Actually, this is a perfect example of a good request, with the inclusion of more than one idea examples. I'll have to edit my main post  :rock-right:

I'm happy to livestream the scene to you, if you like :) Let me know! ^_^

True, I did contradict myself a bit in terms of the dead silence bit. No silence is needed if the whole theme is consistent, but if it has a crescendo, then a short dead silence would be great, to allow the song to buildup rather than start suddenly as the battle starts.

Epic reggae guitar solos are fine if they enhance the song :D

Heyo! I've a request.

Theme: A sacred ascension. This is going to be a final boss theme, but I don't want it to sound like a battle during intro.
Genre: Classical / Church
Orchestration: It's gotta have a regal pipe organ, espescielly important during intro. And probably harps and tubular bells if ya can.
Loops?: Yeah, I'll need it to loop. No silence. And I'm thinking that it shouldn't loop to the beginning, skip the intro the 2nd time 'round.
File output: .OGG I think this file allows custom loop points.

Thanks.

Hotfirelegend, i have the rhythm down, i just need more detail on the melody.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/oyoitsyihu3ab6s/final_boss_theme.wav

should it be upbeat (your second example is) or more ominous (like in the monkey island example)?

Also I doubt I could stream anything with my rather poor internet at the moment, a link to something would be much better (a download or youtube etc), I understand you maybe wish for me not to actually possess a part of your unreleased game but i can only assure you not to worry, i just make little black dots on paper.

Hi, sorry I didn't see this earlier :p Got no notification you replied XD

Anyway, the mood of the final battle is more of an 'on-edge' and 'we can do it!' kind of thing, rather than upbeat/ominous. Of the two, upbeat would fit it better than ominous :)

The current sample sounds great - could do with a little more 'oomph' to the beats though.

I'll send you the scene I speak of, with placeholder stuff in place of some of the main things (but I'll leave the dialogue as-is)

Thanks - PM me when you're ready for the scene :)

EDIT: Example of upbeatness/'oomph':

Hey, in case if you can respond using a phone/tablet or anything, I have a game based off of a book that isn't finished yet.

Theme: A deserted hospital with minimal areas, and one for a castle town.

Genre: Hospital: Fast, can be rock if you want :) Town: Just a nice, smooth song.

Orchestration: Hospital: Rock :) Town: Bells, nothing else ;)

Loops?: Yes, with minimal silence would be the best.

File output: .ogg or .mp3 would be great!

Thanks,

             Connor.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
