I have no idea why people are still using dropbox to publish their stuff and in general, I don't give much thought on that anymore. But getting a newsletter with giveaways and a funny contest that leads to a disabled dropbox is a bad joke.

Really guys... dropbox is bad for sharing files. It's time people "drop" dropbox.

I'm gonna look into this later, but for now I'm using dropbox only for my small amount of gametesters, so there is no issue with too much traffic.

That is what dropbox is about. About sharing file with a group that is working on the same set of files.


Now using it as a filesharing service such as mediafire or mega is a bad idea. The terms on traffic limit are very loose and you have little control or data about it. Usually, when a service has such limitation, they offer some kind of metter for you to see how much traffic was used and how much is still available, wich dropbox don't. Basically you only know that you reached the limit when your download is blocked. And worse, they don't unblock unless you make a request for it. There is no kind 'bandwidth refresh'.

Any pro service would have done it, even Mediafire which cost 45,- bucks a year.

OwnCloud, Google Drive, etc are viable alternatives. MEGA however fell off the radar just recently due to some legal turmoil.

I am still disappointed and will for sure not even try to compete with people who are 5 days ahead, but I am expecting some fun from the game (assumed that dropbox will work when I try the link again), so thanks for the heads up.
