RPG Maker Forums

This past week I have not only had issues with just about every rpg maker crashing on me, I also had install issues as well and the problems on two of my pcs turned out to be simple fixes and I'm going to show what happened and list to the best of my knowledge on how to fix it as well. This happened not only on my RPG maker  VX Ace and MV, it happened on my Compoi Magna Maker as well.

Two of my systems had issues where the program would not boot at all, one even stating a file could not be found. The simple fix normally would be to reinstall. But that  also became an issue because key files needed to reinstall were missing too. It was when I went to re-download the programs that I  discovered what was happening. It turned out two different antivirus programs I use, Trend Micro and Kaspersky had major updates and upon completion ran scans like they were supposed to. As it turned out, a lot of files that were in fact not infected were getting picked up as viruses/Trojans. The biggest mistake to do here would be uninstall the antivirus program. Never do this, and don't shut it off just to use your makers. It only takes less than a second for your system to get hit with a real virus/Trojan. This is what I did to fix my issues. Similar programs not listed most likely will have a Quarantine section as well and you will need to find out where its located plus also include those files removed in an exception list. The two I use, here is what I did. I am also going to edit this later to include photos.

Trend Micro:

before doing the following, if any of your RPG makers are running, close them. Trying to restore a file while the program is running is a great way to corrupt the program and data.

Two the right of the huge scan icon you will see a pair of smaller icons. One is a gear marked settings, the second is security report. Click on Security report. On the next screen you will see on the bottom left "computer threats found" Click on this as well. You should now see in the middle of the menu Viruses, Spyware, Unauthorized changes. Under viruses you will see in blue "See more details" click this. This is a list of every  file the antivirus software has picked up as a threat. Click on each file name and see what it is and where it came from. If it is a RPG maker  file, click on the blue restore button and move on to the next. When you reach the bottom of the list, you may have to click on the arrow to the right of the details menu to close it and scroll the list further down. Then repeat the process of selecting the files for RPG maker that got deleted. With Trend, this is all you need to do as once you restore a file, it gets put on an exception list and wont be bothered again, unless you move  the program to another section. IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE FILE IS, DO NOT RESTORE IT!!! The last thing you want to do is restore an infected file.

Kaspersky:

Just like before, make sure none of your makers are running.  Restoring files to a running program can corrupt the data and program.

Kaspersky can be a bit more trickier than Trend. Ill be updating this as well as I am going by my notes as I'm not in front of the antivirus at the moment. Kaspersky has two Quarantine list sections. One shows the files that are deleted with no other options. If your in this section, don't worry and close it. There is another hidden one that you can restore your files from.

1. Open Kaspersky.
2. Click More Tools.
3. Click Quarantine on the left side.

4. Select the files that got removed and restore them.

Unlike  Trend, Kaspersky you will need to add the programs to an exception list otherwise they most likely will get deleted again upon the next scan. So the following and again, do not restore or add files to the exception list if you do not know what they are.

Another option to keep the file or application not to be deleted by Kaspersky is to set the application to Trusted.

1. Open Kaspersky.
2. Click on the "Settings' or the Gear icon in the bottom left corner of the Kaspersky window;
3. On the left side menu select 'Additional';
4. On the right side menu select 'Threats and Exclusions';
5. Under 'Exclusions' click on 'Specify trusted applications';
6. Click 'Add';
7. Pick an application from the list or click 'Browse' in the bottom left corner to manually locate the application.
8. Check all the box and press 'Add'

Again, I will be updating this with photos later. Hope this helps.

On a side note, if you happened to come home and your windows 10 happens to be stuck in an endless boot up blue screen of death loop, you will need to most likely have to roll back your pc to an earlier version and upon boot up, uninstall your antivirus and install another version. There has been a recent issue with Trend Micros 11 release blue screening some systems. Its why I use two different types. More on this later.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
