Thanks for the warning. I can't seem to find it on Steam though. Is it very old or released on consoles?

Arcanum is quite old, like 15 years old now.

A good game, but it's not sci-fi at all.

In KotoR 1, you could get Mission or Carth to do all the hacking for you. Therefore, your PC could still charge into battle. I'm very battle-oriented, and still found the experience enjoyable. But, hey, as an earlier poster said, you can't please everybody.

That's what I did. I had Mission do it, as far as I remember, but the hacking spike thingies were still limited, and even people with good hacking used them up. It wasn't a matter of having a having skill of X to be able to hack. It's how many spikes you have. The hacking skill only determined how few you'd need to use.

But anyway, I'm repeating myself. Even if the gameplay was to my liking, I still couldn't get into the characters and story (and to me they are the most important things in an RPG).

These may or may not be classed as rpg's. But they are science fiction. Project Snowblind (loosely based on deus ex) and Chaser.

I enjoyed them.

^Thanks for the suggestions. I've just had a look at both of them on Steam and they both look nice. So they're mostly FPS games with a good story?

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is quite a sci-fi game.

I take most of us know about Metal Gear series, if not, look it up. :p

This one is different thou. You do not control Snake in it, in fact, he isn't even mentioned in the whole game.

You control a cyborg named Raiden, who appeared in another Metal Gear part, but I forgot which one was it...

Anyway, the game has a pretty solid amount of RPG elements:

- Upgrade-able weapons/armors/stats.

- Usable items during battle (grenades, rocket launchers, hiding boxes - yeah, boxes, good old boxes, yay!, etc).

- Unlockables, collectabes, a bunch of them!

- Battle points (BP) to spend on upgrades/weapons/armors.

It is an action RPG with a very quick gameplay. If you find the first boss hard, which comes pretty soon in the game, you will find the rest kinda frustrating...

All in all, it is not meant to be played by beginners in this genre for sure.

This is my favorite action RPG I played for now, and I must admit that the music in the game played a big part in it. But the quick, reflex demanding battle system is why I like this game the most. No other game I played requires this much precision and quick execution of attacks and defense. Also most enemies require some kind of strategy to beat, especially bosses.

The story of it is solid too. There are some remarks on certain events from previous Metal Gear series, which is cool, well, if you played the previous games, that is.

Anyway, try it out and see if you like it or not.

And there was another sci-fi RPG I played a long time ago. I forgot it's name sadly, thou.

You controlled robots, which you could upgrade between the missions. I might be wrong on this, but this might actually be that XCOM game other people mentioned here.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Phantasy Star 4 on the Sega Genesis was pretty good.

I do consider this a PC game now, as Emulators are super easy.  I study these old gems for inspriation, and this one was enjoyable.   :)

@ Sixth: Shiney! Thanks for that. It looks good. I have heard of Metal Gear series, but never played any. This one looks like something right up my alley though.

@ Optimum: On Genesis, you say? I'll keep that in mind then. Thanks.

I haven't found an emulator yet that didn't have a virus in it somewhere. Plus, the only ones I'd be interested in are the Gamecube, the PS2, and the PS3, and where to find games for them.

Pahntasy star 4 is available on steam, really cheaply ($2.99 I think?). Just thought you might want to know.

^Ah cheers. Found it. I've not played any game in that series, so I'll see how it goes.

Well, everything Playstation 1 and earlier is already on the Emulator Boards.  You can find them for free very easily because of the copyright laws involved.

Everything after that you can't find at all, for the same reason.

This might get me in trouble, but theoldcomputer.com is my emulation site.  (Not mine, the one I use)

List of Virus Free Emulators

NES - NNNesterJ

SNES - ZSNESWin, SSNESSOR

Sega Genesis - Gens+, Fusion

Game Boy Advance - No$GBA

Playstation 1 - PSXFin

I've used each of the above programs, and every rom you can imagine, from the site above.  I've never had a problem, and am willing to stake my reputation on everything I listed here.

Yes they are. I thought they were. Underrated.

Lunesis has started a trend of doing homages to me by putting a trilobite fossil in your game somewhere and I have to say I love this and encourage everyone who wants to credit me to do it too. XD
Made a plugin that allows you to randomly transmute items into other items weeeeeeee
Rebuilding isn't going terribly so far. I caught some things that I was definitely overcomplicating in the original project. Here's to hoping the plugins play nice when testing starts.
Praise be to the making of the games.
I might be getting engaged. If she says yes, I'll make the Super Mighty Pack.
