Recommended DLC?

Hi, I got the Ace game last week and am enjoying it!  But the DLC prices are pretty rough and I'd like to know which ones are most recommended by the community.  I am most partial to high res battlers, characters, and faces over new tiles, BGM, and backgrounds.  I also do not care for the high fantasy stuff at all. I already got the Samurai resource pack and loving it.

Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated! :D

The Materials for VX Samurai is by far the best pound for pound pack(yes it works for Ace as well). It gives a ton of tilesets(including new overworld Japanese themed icons), Japanese themed event objects, and omg a metric ton of battlers( I'm pretty sure this set gives more tiles, and battlers then any other set, It's a steal to say the least).

and  the

Fantasy Hero Pack is very awesome too,  This gives by far the highest quality faces, and bust pics, and omg boy is there alot, you also get a pretty big handful of battlers as well.

Oh yea, both sets come with a bunch of sprites as well.

Both sets are a steal at their prices, you really can't even hope for better, they're that good.

First of all I would like to make a remark : prices are not rough at all! To get tilesets of this quality granting you licence to use them in commercial games from an artist you would commission you wouldn't get away with paying less than 150$ and that's still very cheap price.

Regarding recommendations I can't say anything , it depends on your needs. You want to make a sci-fi rpg? Take futuristic tiles. Your setting takes place for a long time in some middle-eastern setting? Take arabian nights.
You want to inject some new blood in your hero party (or villains) without having to pass through character generator? Take high-fantasy heroes pack.

You want to give a more snes feelling to your rpg? Take the ds ressource pack.

It's all up to you, the ressources pack are all pretty good.

I don't know any artist who'd do a full tileset for less than 4 figures actually.

My favorite is the DS and DS+ sets, but for what you're asking for I'd say go with one of the ones that focus on faces and battlers like Tyler Warden's stuff or the Fantasy Hero pack. You're not going to get a huge consensus though, all of the packs have charm and quality, it just depends on what you like and want for your game.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.  I have no plans to do any commercial stuff, and had no idea how much stock tilesets are put into.  I'm not sure if I'm a fan of Tyler Warden's art style personally.

I'm probably gonna go towards the fantasy hero pack and the two DS packs.  Once again, thank you all for the advice. :)

Yeah.... the prices on the packs are dirt cheap. I'm already in to Celiana and Lunarea for more than it would cost to buy them all and even that is a steal for the quality of work I've gotten (check their respective threads - good stuff). I would say this - make sure the packs you want will either work with what you have or else have enough to stand on their own.

Btw: don't fall into the trap of thinking you _need_ more 'stuff' to make a game. Really take a look at the graphics the 'classic' RPG's used: every inn exactly the same,  the same house designs in every village, etc... That said, if you've got the story and the characters - the art can push it over the top.

Edit: if you get a members+  membership first, you'll get a discount on everything (or almost everything) you buy, so it pays for itself very quickly if you're looking to get a couple of things.

Yeah, to each their own.  Personally, I am not playing this to make a profit.  To me, characters are everything to me.  I want faces, char sprites, and battlers for everything, no random encounters.  To get said things to get as big of a cast in my story is my number one goal.

The fantasy hero pack and the two DS packs are the way to go for the highest quantity of art-based resources, I think. If that's what you want...

Can't say anything about the music unfortunately, being deaf...

Well if you're more into a bit of HD/3D-based graphics, try the High Fantasy packs

Yeah I did.  I chose the DS resources pack and Samurai one.  Got a bit over 10 bucks left on my steam account so a bit more open to what I can still afford.  I'm considering buying music now so if anyone has any suggestions for ambient medieval fantasy battles, dramatic events, and overall immersion I would love to hear them :)

Great choice going with the Samurai pack, I vote it as the best all around/most versatile pack there is by far.

Um, I don't suppose you can deposit a few bucks at a time into Steam huh? Because if you could, I would suggest you do so, and get the Fantasy Hero Pack(It's only $15 normally)

I don't know if anything is on sale on steam atm, but your choices are really limited at $10. If it forces you to deposit like 20 at a time or some BS like that, I would say just hold off until you have the money to deposit more into the account, so you can get the Fansay Hero Pack/any non music pack you may want(unless you are looking for music, then you probally can afford it right nos)

Oh ok awesome, then unless you want a very specific music pack, I would suggest just waiting for new resource packs to come out(since atm you don't have enough money in the account for anything really, anyway). There's no rush, and there's definitely no need/reason to literally own every resource pack(no matter what game you're making, you'll never have a need for every resource pack available).

There's a new resource packs always in the works, so if you can't find a pack atm to spend to money on, then don't, instead hold off until a pack is added, that you could use.

There are several music packs that are under 10$ in price.

You can hear samples for all of our packs on their product pages (link). We're working on bringing those samples over to Steam, as well. Almost all of our music packs are on Steam already, and the rest will be out shortly. :)

The Samurai pack is my favorite.  Do be aware the English version currently is missing some resources found in the Japanese one.

Despite this the English version is my #1 recommendation.

The DS & DS + are next for recommendations.  You get  a good bit of stuff with them.

The music resources are ok, but I find I don't use most of the resources in them.

Tyler Warren's stuff is very nice and I recommend it.

The Modern tiles & Arabian Tiles are  good too.

The various High Fantasy ones are renders of DAZ Studio/ Poser models.

Several of the models used DAZ gave away for free at various times or offered for sale very cheap.

I recommend you just go get DAZ Studio for DAZ's site which is free  and comes with some starter content and buy 3D models instead of buying those packs.  I have just about every 3D model used in them and have made similar stuff using DAZ Studio & other 3D software for my own projects.  (You can also get 3D models for free too and DAZ3D isn't the only place to buy 3D DAZ/Poser models.)

DS, DS+ and VX Samurai are the core ones you'll want. Fantasy Hero Character Pack is good, too. The rest depends on what you want for your game. Modern Tiles, Modern Shop Addon, Futuristic Tiles, and Arabian Nights are good tilesets.

I personally do not care for the 3D rendered stuff. (No offense to the creators of those products, of course. Just not to my tastes.) A lot of people like it, but it seems you didn't like High Fantasy. If that's the case, stay away from Mythos Horror, The Deep, and Monsters Legacy.

Tyler Warren Battlers is cheap and good, but in a cartoony style. That may or may not fit with your game.

As for music, Kain's Combo Pack is a great deal. I don't think it appears on Steam, though. Just on the main site's store. Anyway, it includes Nothing Battlers and Blackheart Power music packs, and comes to a total of 32 high-quality tracks for $7.50. Other cheap and good music packs include Adventurer's Journey I and II, Zonderland, and Fantasy Adventure Mini.
