I was thinking of getting a website for my game from a place like WiX and putting up a website for my game.

My main goal is a place I can put up screenshots and organize a wiki type page.
Maybe some adds and link to a patreon.

    Any recommendations? Templates?

    Thanks!

Why not itch.io? Technically a website just for your game, but you can set up a page for your game, have a forum, make dev posts, put screenshots, text, etc. It's a popular indie game site so it will work to your advantage.

Thanks for the reply. I am not that familiar with itch.io, but it seems like a place for completed games rather than something that’s just getting off the ground.

You can set your game status to "In development" there. But yeah, it's usually nice to join a demo to your game page. The game itself doesn't need to be finished.

EDIT: You can also create a thread for your game on this forum.

Of course, you could use Blogger if you want a standalone site (without hosting the game itself) and Wikia for your wiki needs apart from hosting the game itself for distribution, but that is if you want the "total cheapskate's free" package.

I’m don’t need to be a total cheapskate. How much can say $50 bucks get me? I’m looking for a good template too. The templates I’ve seen for Game maker for wix was more like for first person games and not one like an RPG with lots of unique features and characters.

I would recommend Awardspace with CMS WordPress.

The only annoying thing about this hosting is file size limitation (10MB max) and you can't upload popular archives such as ZIP and exes, but them you can host on Mega (wich is my favourite) or Google Drive etc. :)

    Itch.io is also good option.

You could host a peer-to-peer website on Beaker Browser as well. Even play the game in web page itself. It makes for nice banner for those who wants to read your books, to entertain them.

@Jellicoe I use to recommend Wordpress for blogging or writing updates to your project, I think I'd still recommend it. For images now, I'd say Imgur. Mega/mega.nz for heavy projects with lots of MB's. Don't think I have to say this one, but YouTube for your videos.

itch.io, here and rpgmaker.net for posting your games with a summary, either for feedback, or allowing others to play them, or both.

Development sites like IndieDB.com are very easy and generate advertising to a very large number of gamers, however the gamers there are more looking for hidden AAA quality games from u heard of indie developers. But it's still free advertising outside of the normal RPGM fanbase and it's easy to use.

Website administration is very cheap. With a simple CMS (free) like WordPress installed, and 5-10 days of rolling up your sleeves to put your content on your site and change image banners and stuff....your looking at an average cost per year to keep the site active to about $5 per year and a $15 website URL renewell fee.

Step 1: Find a host. Plenty of very cheap ones. Don't go with the big name places

Step 2: While on host site ordering your website, it will ask you what you want your URL to be and let you know what's already taken or not

Step 3: On initial purchase, you'll purchase hosting and URL. Every month after that you'll just need to renew hosting which is very cheap

Step 4: Get a FTP program like Filezilla

Step 5: Install WordPress. Very easy

Step 6: Go to your URL and finish install.
