- Summary

I'm trying to avoid going into too much detail to avoid creating an intention-behavior gap. The game started off as a love-letter to the Tales series in story and takes a few elements from MMOs for gameplay (not the online bit, hold yer horses there).

The story begins in peaceful woodland horse ranch, following a guest to the ranch who, in the event that literally dropped him headfirst onto the ranch, has lost his memory. He soon realizes that his presence endangers the ranch and he leaves to protect it, as well as to find the source of the strange visions and prophecies of the near future that haunt his mind.

- Setting

The game takes place in primarily in a medieval country called Sententia. Sententia has little in the way of a government, save for the ministry of Milecloccia that governs the midwest. The nation is largely divided into smaller nations divided by geography, distance, and a general lack of interest or abundance of fear in each other. Each remote nation is the hiding place of a fountain of mana, the source of all magic in Sententia, created by the gods to save the world a thousand years prior.

- Characters

Oracle (Alias: Barncrusher)
A boy with the gift of future sight but memories only of one request: to save someone, but he has no idea who.
Battle Modes:

  • Dagger - Quick, piercing attacks that take advantage of his high agility
  • Sword - Grants control over the battle, reducing enemy actions and agility and increasing the party's
Healer (The Rancher)
An aspiring young woman who wants nothing more than to see the world.
Battle Modes:

  • Staff - Power heals and restores to keep the party alive
  • Spear - Taking advantage of her naturally high target rate, she becomes a phalanx to defend the team
Magician (Just caught up in this mess...or is he?)
A young merchant from Cilan who seems to know something about the protagonist's mission
Battle Modes:

  • Tomes - Rain destruction from above on the enemy and raise the dead from below
  • Axes - Sacrifice life force to ravage the enemy and punish the living
Lady Luck (The Centurion)
A woman from the protagonist's past, but is she a friend or foe?
Battle Styles:

  • Paraphernalia - She can't use magic, so she makes due with the magician's old inventory, healing the party or poisoning the enemy.
  • Fan - An enchanted fan. Unfortunately it's somewhat unreliable, but worth a gamble.
Artist/Historian (and group illusionist)
A tall, soft-spoken man claiming to be an "artist slash historian" who has an aptitude for little-known magic.
- The Needs

About the project: The engine used is RPG Maker VX Ace. This is an idea that has been years in the making. It's been attempted in RPG Maker before, but issues with battle systems and that darn intention-behavior gap got in the way one too many times. This time, however, the battle system is 98% done and actually game-breaking-bug-free this time (as far as I know, thus the 2%). With that hurdle overcome, I realize that the next big hurdle is mapping, which is why I'm here before you today.

Mapping: All the maps! I can map (YMMV on the quality of said maps) and will likely still be doing them, I just find the process ghastly and would like some help to speed the process. Parallax mapping is preferred, but not required. Existing maps have been using Celianna's Tileset and parallax tiles, but I'm totally flexible on that. My estimates have it at 35-40 maps in the main quest, some indoor and some outdoor. Environments will include forests, medieval towns, hidden villages, swamps, an abandoned modern city, a port town, multiple temples (abandoned and otherwise), and the other end of a black hole (basically).

Important note about mapping: Battles take place on the map a la Chrono Trigger, so maps needs to be spacious enough to handle that.

Example of the maps I've done: http://imgur.com/a/InUZT

Mapping position closed for now. After some soul searching I realize that mapping isn't the issue--it's planning the layouts for the maps that's the issue.

Scripting: There are two issues in the battle system I know of, one visual and one gameplay-iffy. My battle system is a hair-brained mix of dbchest's ATB, and Yanfly's chain skills. If you'd be willing to help hammer out the issues with it, that'd be great.

Compensation

I do not have much to offer, but if you're interested what I can offer includes:

  • I will pay for any Steam DLC we decide to use for the game.
  • free small website hosting on a cPanel VPS (It's my VPS, but I hardly use it so I can offer you some space on it)
  • Idea bouncing for your story
  • Proofreading skillz

I'm not a scripter at all, but if you need help mapping I would be glad to help. :) As long an I am provided with instructions on what you want and proper graphics I can do it. You don't need to give/pay me anything I would just like a small spot in the credits of your game if you decide to keep my work.

What mapping style do you use? Parallax or ordinary. Maybe I can help.

Oh, credit (and possible adoration) will certainly be given; it would just be wrong not to credit your work. I'm currently using Celianna's Tileset and Parallax tiles but if there's a tileset you would prefer I'm flexible on that. Would likely need to find a tileset for the few modern maps since Celianna's is somewhat lacking there. If there's one that we really like that's DLC on Steam, I'd be willing to get that for the both of us.

Parallax mapping is preferred, but not required. An ordinary map can look nice as well.

@both of you: Would you mind submitting examples of your work or a link to a thread where I can view it?

K, I will get you some samples of my maps. Do you mind if I PM them to you. Also I don't mind what Tilesets you use, I just meant I don't want to have to create a modern shopping center with medieval tiles. I don't do parallax mapping though. I've never tried and maybe I could learn it. (I'm a pretty quick learner)

Sure, go ahead and send a PM. And I totally understand with the tilesets lol. I like parallax mapping because there's a lot more freedom--no being restricted to whatever tilesets you can squeeze into the editor! Only downside is needing an adequate image editing program. Here's the video guide that got me started on it:

Hey, sorry for the delay! I was actually doing some cleanup on the project so I'd have a half-working script demo to throw at you. Details and demo sent via PM.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
