I want to get some experience in developing a game while working with a team. I’d like to produce a working demo of the project below before deciding on how to proceed further.
Synopsis
The people speak of an event, known as the “The Cleansing”, which happened thousands of years ago. A single man stood against all of humanity, waged war, and claimed victory after generating a death toll equivalent to over 95% of the human population. Known as “The Cleanser”, he ruled all of Grava for 1,000 years before stepping down. When Cleanser disappeared, the monsters arrived shortly afterwards. With a thirst for living flesh, these creatures plagued what was left of the population. For many years, the people fought a losing battle. As the people begun to lose all hope, stories of mysterious warrior wielding great power were spreading. Soon a group of monster slayers formed around this mystery warrior and mankind begun to take back the planet.
In the years that followed, humanity began to flourish once again, however the monsters were far from defeated. With each generation a new breed of monsters would appear, proving more dangerous than the former. The people had no choice to but to pour the majority of their resources into military groups. With enormous support two of these groups grew into huge organizations. MOB, commonly believed to have originated from the first group of monster slayers. They deal mostly in direct confrontation and monster hunting. Safezone, formed when guards from various towns started working together for mutual benefit. Safezone deals mostly in settlement defense and law enforcement.
The story follows a pair of orphaned twins raised outside of a small village. Noel and his sister, Skye. I have a few ideas as to how to progress the story, but I want to get the opinions of my would-be writer before deciding on anything.
Characters
Again, since I’m still deciding on how the story will progress, so I’m only giving names and personality traits.
- Noel – Empathetic, Indiscriminate, Intelligent, Wary, GullibleNoel cares about the struggles of others, whoever they may be. He assumes He has a knack for memorizing details, such as names, faces, events. He prioritizes potential risks and hesitates under pressure.
[*]Skye – Deductive, Talented, Stubborn, Impulsive, Vigilant
- Skye takes a logical approach to most situations, making quick decisions. She’s susceptible to rash behavior due to her sudden decisiveness. She learns quickly and tends to excel at whatever she does. She’s reluctant to diverge from any plan once her mind is made up.
Classes
Each class has a unique passive ability and a skill that’s effective both in and outside of combat.
Harvester – This class focuses on ‘obtaining’ things from enemies. Things such as health, energy, items, souls, stats, buffs, ect. They wield the scythe and boast high levels of agility, strength, and intellect.
Pathfinder – This class focuses on completing quests. They have skills that make travel more efficient, and puzzles easier to solve. They wield the boomerang and do not have particularly strong or weak parameters.
There are six other classes that I haven't mentioning for the time being.
Planned Features
As a personal rule, I only plan features that I’m sure I can pull off on my own. Nothing too ambitious here, but it should make for an interesting setup.
- Dynamic Storyline: The player will be able to make some decisions that influence events surrounding the story. Making a choice does not necessarily mean choosing A, B, or C, your actions in-game will determine how events will play out.
- Time Mechanics: Many events will occur based the amount of time passed. This includes, but is certainly not limited to the main storyline. If you stand idle, the world will leave you behind.
- CTB Batte System.
- Dynamic Progression: You will have multiple methods of enhancing your characters.Multi-Class System
- Skill Upgrades
- Equipment Crafting
- Ultimate Weapons
[*]Map Stuff: There’s quite a few things you can do outside of combat.
- Part-Time Jobs
- Monster Hunting – not to be confused with combat, it's a system in which you try to capture wanted map-monsters.
Recruitment
I’m going to require a bit of assistance and motivation to remain on task. I don’t expect you to make the game for me, I am capable of performing (to some degree) every task listed below. However, I’m finding it difficult to manage so much information on my own, that’s where you come in.
I am fully aware that this is a non-commercial (for the time being). I do not expect you to devote any significant amount of time to your roles in this project. I only ask that you do what you can.
- Organizer (-closed-)It is your job to keep all resources organized, secured, and accessible to the right people.
[*]Artist (-closed-)
- It was my original intention to use modified RTP assets.
[*]Writer (-closed-)
- Your job is to write the story and its characters based on the information provided to you. You will be working very closely with me in developing the plot.
[*]Eventer (-closed-)
- You may be tasked with creating new systems using events, however the primary function of this job is to take alleviate some of the workload.
[*]Dialogue Writer (-Open-)
- Self-explanatory. The writers decide what the characters do, and you’ll be deciding what they say and how they feel while doing it. It’s very important that you’re intimately familiar with each and every character in-game. You will also work closely with me as I’ll be overseeing your work directly. Send me a PM with your writing skills, experience, and samples.
[*]Mapper (-Priority-)
- Need you to design and build all of the maps for the game. I intend to use RTP style resources for this project. I have do have some additional resources available in case the defaults do not suite your preferences.
[*]Scripter (-closed-)
- Your job is to find, configure, and write scripts as needed. This project shouldn’t require too many (if any) custom made scripts.
[*]Battle Mechanic (-closed-)
- What’s an RPG without its combat system? A Visual Novel! Since that’s not what we’re going for I’d appreciate some assistance.
[*]Map Mechanic (-Closed for now-)
- Not to be confused with the Mapper, you will work on game mechanics outside of the battle system. You will work closely with the Mapper and eventers. As I’m not entirely sure this position necessary, I’ll leave it closed for now.
[*]Music Coordinator (-closed-)
- You will decide what, when, and where music plays in-game.
[*]Promoter (-Closed-)
- It’s your job to get the word out. Gain and sustain interests in the project. Basically write posts like the one you’re reading… I want you to maintain communication with the community and let people know what’s going on.
[*]Alpha Testers (-closed-)
- You’ll play any aspect of the game that needs testing, and provide feedback.
