This script allows you to control fog of war using region tiles.  Each map can assign multiple different regions of fog. Different fog regions are separate from one another.

Script calls are used to show or hide region fog.

This is great. Reminds me of the old school Ultima games or rogue-likes.

Any way to  add on to this and turn it into a region Pic, Parallax, or even a Region Map script?

Here's a new update: custom fog tiles. If you need different fog colors for different maps or regions, you can now do it easily.

It requires the new extended note-tag to use, but the extended note-tag is not that much different from the basic note-tag (except all of the options are, well, optional)

If someone needs more than 128 fog colors let me know and I will add support for that as well (up to a maximum of 512 fog tiles split across 4 pages of the fog tileset)

Would this work for ACTUAL fog - animated fog, like smoke? And could it be turned on/off via a switch or variable?

Each region fog is assigned to a bit switch, which is stored in one game variable so yes you could turn them on or off by toggling the specific bit-switch assigned to that region (I provide method calls to enable or disable the bit-switches)

When I say "fog" it is in the context of "fog of war", and a very simple implementation of it (just static fog)

I have considered some sort of animated fade-in fade-out (moving from really old games to not-so-old), but have not figured out how to best accomplish it. I'm not sure how to create other types of animations either, or to create auto-tile like fogs which would be more suitable for smoke and other effects.

Apologies for the small thread necro, but this appears to be almost exactly what I'm looking for. Would it be possible to slightly change this so that the fog was gradually revealed as the player moved through it and stayed that way? I'm creating a lengthy dungeon that I want to have a maze like feel on first encounter, ideally I'd be able to limit  the initial view to a 3 block radius.

It's okay to necropost in the Scripts forums (not script requests or support). That's why we leave these ones open :)
