Hi all you lovely people,
After a long hiatus I've returned to game making, and the forums.
This will be my third project and I wanted to test the RPG Maker MV engine to see how far I can push it. The image sizing is great and I want to make everything hand-drawn instead of pixel-style this time around.
I just finished the title screen art today and started up the itch page for the game (Picture #1). My next step is to refine my maps, this is where I'm starting to struggle. I have a diagonal movement plugin working so I thought I'd be able to work with diagonal maps (Picture #3) but decided that would be too difficult to layer everything and the movement is still grid based so the perspective would throw things off if it was too drastic.
I decided to go with the more traditional top-down RPG Maker style though I still want to make everything hand-drawn.
I like to work with a lot of references to see how others have done it and I haven't seen too many RPG Maker games with hand-drawn maps. Do you all know of any posts, games, tutorials, etc. for making nice-looking maps with a top down but cartoony feel? I'd love to get some inspiration to help me out. I want a style that will match the sprite (Picture #4, original base by WTR and edited by me https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/tall-character-sprites-sv-template.119130/, still rough but I'm going for that black-lined feel)
