Game Synopsis:
In the world of Eluria there is a legend about two creatures born of the gods, Pandemonia, devourer of worlds, and the god's dragon, he who grants protection and life. The legend says that long, long ago, Pandemonia attempted to enter into the world in an attempt to claim the beautiful land for which the gods had created, however, this was against the creed the gods had set forth. In response to this, the god's dragon followed after Pandemonia to try and force the other away from the innocent planet, however, jealous Pandemonia would not be denied. The two did battle to see who would dominate the other in their bid for Eluria only for the pair to destroy one another with their fighting. There ends their tale...

...but the legend hasn't come to an end just yet.

Characters:

Tairyoku: Son of Kishi, leader of the dragons of Rhumba.
A young dragon who lives deep within the underground of the continent of Rhumba Tairyoku was raised to be a strong, confident, and justice practicing individual. Having a natural empathy for all things great and small, Tai, as he is often called, carries inside of him a great love for those he meets and is more than willing to go out of his way for those who cross his path, be they enemy or not. Having mastered the ways of the spear and staff from his father, Kishi, Tai can strike with deadly precision making him a force to be reckoned with in battle. This fact has also been the source of much despair for the dragon, as his inherent strength can easily snap most conventional weapons in two.

Robin: Tai's best friend.
A bright and chipper young boy who was found by Tairyoku’s father, Kishi, as a baby. Being raised alongside Tai Robin has a deep fondness for the red dragon which can often come off as a scary protectiveness to those unprepared for the fountain of emotions the youth can expel. He seems very wise to the ways of the world as his nose can often be found deep within books for which most would think are above his accepted intelligence, yet many can be astounded by his great wisdom. Having the ability to channel the power of the elements of the planet at will Robin has become a powerful mage, the likes of which could possibly make him one of the most deadly wizards in this era. However, for the most part, Robin is merely content with reading various pieces of literature and playing with his best friend forever.

Lumina: Princess of the continent of Rhumba.
As a the only heir of the kingdom of Rhumba Lumina was born into a family of elves which have long since controlled the continent and therefore has the burden of rulership shadowing her destiny. A demure lady by nature, she has learned that one must have strength of body, mind, and soul in order to secure the safety and stability of a country and has thus long since worked to master the ways of both politics and swordsmanship. Oddly enough, despite being from a long line of magic users Lumina herself does not possess any magic. To compensate for this the young elf has made it a personal goal to master the art of brewing and administering potions and elixirs to those around her.

Dean: A plucky thief from the country of Thorian.
As canine beastman who lives in the city of Midgard on the Thorian continent Dean fashions himself as a jack-of-all trades who does what he feels, which usually consists of hunting for treasure to support the women who raised him. Being a civil war orphan he has a strong loyalty towards those he chooses to care for and is even willing to place his life on the life for others, should the situation call for it. However, he is a wisecracking smart aleck who has no issue with telling anyone how he feels and why he feels that way. His fearlessness has made him a danger to the more...conservative minded people who live within Midgard, yet Dean is unfettered by the rage of those who consider him to be a nuisance. Having learned how to fight from a very early age by Ms. Karen, a rabbit beastman who handled the greater majority of raising him, the dog beastman has shown more than one person why trying to tangle with him is usually a very bad idea.

Setting:
Eluria: A world created by the gods long, long ago to be a paradise where creatures of myth, legend, and power could exist at the amusement of those whose being defied reason.

Story:
Tairyoku recalls a dream he had a long time ago. In it, he was searching for a voice that was calling out to him, asking him to come to the sacred shrine his people had protected for generations. The details are fuzzy...but he remembers something happening back then...something important that he just can't recall. However, fate is unconsciously tugging him and his memories with its unforgiving web. Now those lost memories are about to return...even the ones he was not born yet to remember.

Gameplay:
Resistance: A Dragon's Quest is an old school rpg game with cliched plotlines, simplistic characters, and old fashion character driven charm. The battle mechanics are turn based. There's a number of hidden sidequests and puzzles scattered throughout the game. An arena hidden within the demon world. There are also NPCs which tell a story underneath the story and lore which reveals a painful past Eluria and its people have experienced since the day when Pandemonia entered into the world.

However, underneath the goofy characters and detailed story are mature themes such as the question of one's fate, the pain of being of another race in a war torn world, the burden of accepting suffering, accepting the nature of loving someone different from yourself, loss of friends and family, and many other dark themes.

Extras:
A Poker Game
A slot machine game
An underworld arena
A basic item creation
Two version of the final battle
An extra addition to the ending under certain situations
Two extra ending variations
Numerous side-quests
Hidden lore

Game has been updated as of 3/6/2017

Edits:

1. The battle commands are changed so that the Fight/Escape window is the first window that can be seen. Also, if you speak to War Master (the red dragon) in the armory cavern he goes over statistics and how to escape in battle now.

2. I will work on that. (Probably have more NPCs sitting in place if you keep having troubles.)

3. It was supposed to be Magic Defense Buff <- changed in new version of game.

4. The open book in the Resort room can be read now.

5. Changed the volcano so that the player should no longer clip.

6. Fix the tribesman stands <- will no longer be able to go up. Also added event to automatically pull the player backwards if they try to go up onto it. (I may get an art commission for this if you're really interested in this)

7. Center Pillar in pyramid has been removed.

8. Boat on the side of Midgard city will now appear whether you enter into the cafe or not. (If you do cafe event you should be able to enter into it and get a ride for free)

9. There are several quests - I mostly wanted people to remember these by going back to speak with the NPCs who gave them the quests.

*Love's Sickness - Inside Midgard City, beastman district (And yes it is forebodding)
*Missing Medicine - Inside Midgard City, beastman district
*Black Passion - Thorian Cafe Event
*Lost Husband - Inside Midgard City, Noble District
*Dead Village - The haunted ruins in Thorian - Must begin Lost Husband Sidequest
*Meeting Dean at Home - Inside Midgard City's chapel in noble district

10. Treasure Map 5 only appears if you saved the feline catwoman at the cafe and then return during the second part of the game. XD

11. Fixed the undead soldiers. They will no longer cast death, but do twin slashes instead. Also they have less HP and more EXP. This place is supposed to be a side area for people wanted a challenge, but what's the point of a challenge if no one is having fun, right?

12. Fixed the Accurser. Removed her barrier ability, removed her sleep attack and GRD debuff. She should be easier. Also added SPD debuff for Wind Crest Shirt. (Please let me know if the debuff is in the description, this will let me know that I updated the game correctly)

Okay I'm gonna be honest.
I really wanted to like this but it was... Grating to say the least.
I'll put my thoughts in a spoiler because of plot reasons.
I only managed to reach the Octi fight so apologies if I got the wrong idea.

Your character descriptions and their in-game personalities do not match up at all.
How is Tai empathetic and loving? From what the game tells me he's incredibly violent to anybody who dares inconvenience him. A scene that comes to mind is with the knights at the cafe harassing the waitress(?). Rather than attempt to deescalate the situation he charges on in and threatens to kill them. I think you'd be better off as describing him as someone who lets his feelings of justice get the best of him. Saying he's loving and all that while portraying him to be violent sends off mixed signals. I'd rather the hero be some head-strong hero with warped ideas about justice than another angry dragon with a lust for violence.

Lumina is honestly the one who should be described as empathetic. She seems to understand how others are feeling and never gets into a fight unless necessary or whenever Tai drags her into it.

While I thought Robin was a little bit violent later on in the story compared to how he was in the beginning, the twist did kind of shed some light on why he acted that way, I guess? However the twist itself kinda came out of left field and left me more confused than anything. All I got was some questionable character saying "he's evil" and then leaving it at that. I was expecting he was secretly some high level mage or whatever trying to hide his true powers, not actually Pandemonia. The "two enemies trying to be friends" plot sounded pretty good but when the truth was revealed I just kind of went "oh okay".

His grandfather being his spirit guardian and granting him great powers was also kind of "eh". I think it would have been more interesting if it was Zero trying to slowly convert him to his side or something.

Dean is annoying.
Seriously.
Never has a character got on my nerves so badly.
He's creepy and weird.
It doesn't come off as goofy or anything, just aggravating.
When he got into the fight with the wolf (whose name I totally didn't forget) I was just rooting for the wolf because he more or less brought that on himself.

Zero though was a pretty decent villain. This part specifically won me over. He was funny. Although Zero is a very cliché name for a villain. Give him some pompous title or something. Make him a villain you love to hate.

Names are very out of place and don't seem to follow any kind of pattern. I understand you're trying to convey various countries and cultures, but some don't make any sense. Like King Nido having a son called Ruth. It doesn't really sit right.

Gameplay wise: It's annoyingly hard and it doesn't feel very satisfying to complete battles.
I'm glad you since made the run away option visible, since before I was just mindlessly mashing Z hoping for the battle to end.
Honestly either make the encounters easier or reduce the spawn rate, because it gets annoying having to backtrack.
Also, why can you only save in the overworld? It was annoying getting a game over in the middle of a dungeon and having to rush to recover 20 minutes of progress I lost. Either allow players to save in dungeons, or if you insist on the memory crystal thing then maybe have one-time use ones you can buy from stores? Anything to reduce losing progress.
Some battles are also ridiculously hard.
I had to give up when I reached Octi. No spells were working, and it could outheal and outdamage me before i could even scratch me.
I think this is probably due to the way the party is all split up around the beginning. Dean and Robin were hopelessly underlevelled by the time the party was all together. Though this may have been due to my actions. Robin feels so useless at the beginning that it was better to just leave him dead than waste revives and heals.

Your story could definitely do with improvements.
The majority of the side plots go absolutely nowhere. Like when I was heading to Midgard I kept hearing about dragons not being welcome or whatever, but when I reached it I beat up two people and that was that. It was never brought up again.
I'd rather you tell one story rather than lots of little stories that reach unsatisfying ends.

The hidden lore didn't really interest me enough to find it.
It just felt like boring info dumps.
The NPCs weren't really interesting to talk to either. They just felt like information dispensers rather than people.
If you want goofy dialogue I'd suggest playing Earthbound and seeing how they pulled it off, if you haven't already.

It's all experience though.
Thank you for reading and good luck on your future projects!

Thanks for playing. I'll try and explain some of my reasoning for what happens throughout.

1. Emphatic: showing an ability to understand and share the feelings of another. - in Tai's case, he's a person who goes out of his way to aid others, showing rage for injustice shown to them and yet also sacrificing himself for others, giving to them without question, and doing for them what they cannot do for themselves. In this case, he's the fury of the meek. I attempted to present him more as a hero filled with a sense of doing outside of the normal standards of justice one might find from modern heroes. Even if that means taking justice in his own hands, but notice...he never kills anyone...unless pushed.

2. You're right. Lumina is how I think a true royal figure should be, powerful and yet reserved, kind and yet not afraid to get herself dirty.

3. There's subtext there you have to read into, and read about from stories around the world. It's not something that's just...presented.

4. There's a point behind the Ryu-Tai connection. You'll have to play more to get it.

5. Dean is who he is. Straightforward and honest, and yet a happy person. Either you'll like him...or hate him.

6. Zero's name has a meaning, but against...subtext you have to read into.

7. King Nido rules Midgard with his son Prince Ruth.

8. On this part, it depends on you. If you're not going to play the characters strengths, I can't help that. Everyone has a strength, everyone has a weakness. All of them have to be utilized together as a unit.

9. There's a lot of subtext you're going to miss if you don't speak with people and really understand who the characters are, and the history of the world.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
