So, I was browsing some sites for art and came across this cool faceset on

(First Face Set)

-- removed image due to 'ripped' resources. Find on site above if you wish.

Anyway, I was wondering what kind of style this art would be ? To me is just looks like high detail manga, but im no art critic..

Also, If anyone is aware of other sites that has similar styled rpg maker resources?

Yep, Big Eyes, Small Mouth - anime or manga.

You've got two styles there: a few of the pictures look more of the gritty Gundam/Mecha type, while are more of the 'traditional'(?) anime look.

It kinda looks like magna/anime style from Disgaea is the first thing that pops in my head.Phantom Brave and some other cool magna stuff look like that too.

Are you looking for facesets like that? You could always just make your own pal.

I will have to investigate this kind of art. Seems like it will hold my interest for a while :p

I'm not very 'pixel-savvy' unfortunately. I mean, I can do some basic things and I am improving slightly (and slowly), but each minute ii spend on a pixel is time I could be writing code, which imo, is a more productive use of my time, especially considering the 'time - quality of item' ratio. :/

Looks Moe. And those are ripped from Chaos wars...
What is 'Moe' ? I tried to search it on the classic search engine  'oggle', but it seems The Simpsons is still rather popular and when you start finding the simpsons manga is gets 'extreme' pretty fast.....

Also, I remove the image from the OP considering its a rip from something :)

Moe means very cutesy characters. Big eyes, small mouth and babyface. In the case of the coloring style of the facesets you showed earlier, it's just hard cell shading with colored lineart. The color palette being Pastel-like. Hope that helps. :)

This completely boggled my brain. I have no idea what any of those things are (cell shading, lineart)

I assume lineart is art, made from lines... Cell shading though, I have no idea what so ever.

Everything else was understandable, so thanks lol ^_^

Haha it's cool, I'm glad I made a tutorial about this before so I can just c&p the images I used haha.

Lineart = The lines/base/foundation of the drawing. Normally they are black but you can set them as another color so they would fill naturally with the colors. Here's a not so high quality visual example:

Cell Shading = There are two types, Hard and Soft. Hard is more like sharp shading and well, less painterly. Something you commonly see in Anime. Soft Cell Shading have smoother and softer strokes and can be close to a painterly approach. Of course you can combine the two.

I think I get it now, thanks for the additional detail.

I think the black lineart example above stands out much more than the soft.. Kind of attracts your attention more.

Seems like I will be going on an art hunt today to see what i can find :p

Hm. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't cell-shading related to hand-drawn animation in general?

Yes. A 'cell' is the physical picture used as a frame in animation.

For 'line art' style - if you've ever seen Samurai Jack - that was done using no lines at all. I think it was the first animated show to do that, and it really makes a noticeable visual difference.

Hm... surely one can't draw without using lines. Can one?
