The resource manager in MZ seems to be bugged. If I go to select import on it for BGM's it crashes right then and there as it apparently can't handle loading all of the BGMs that came with MZ. If I try to go to the DLC to add a BGM it hangs a very long time (5+ minutes) or never loads the directory at all. I got one DLC pack with only 6 songs to finally load but all others nothing after 5+ minutes of waiting.

Specs is windows 10, i7 CPU, 32 GB memory, 1 TB HD. And honestly resource manager should be able to load into memory about anything with 32 GB memory so I have no idea why resource manager in MZ is running this awfully.

Edit: Found the issue. The problem is how the resource manager works apparently conflicts with audacity. Considering many use that for sound editing may wish to see if you can figure out why.

I have a similar problem. Everytime I have to open a folder fom the MZ program it crashes. I uninstalled Audacity and solved it partially, but I still have the same issue.

My computer specs are:
Windows 10
Core i7 5500 CPU 2.4 GHz
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
Version: PC (not Steam)

I think everyone should add if they are using steam ver or otherwise. Just for bug-hunting sake.

Still not at my computer, fyi.

I'm not using the Steam version, I'm using the version from the webstore. As far as I can tell, this doesn't affect Steam version users.

EDIT:
I've been testing this issue, it happens every time I need to open or save a file from Windows. For example, this also happens if I'm in the character generator and I want to save the file to my pc, once it opens the save window to select the folder, it crashes after 5 to 10 seconds and I'm unable to select any folder.

When creating a new project, if I want to select the folder for the project, the same thing happens, in this case the work around it is to basically manually enter the path in the location text box without selecting the "choose" button.

@Winshifter : Check if you got any image programs that may be working with those files too. They may be causing an issue.

@Touchfuzzy : I wonder if it is an issue with maybe an older version of audacity? Mine was a 2017 version so maybe I needed to update it too? If so we may want to warn people about that.

Only programs running along with RMMZ are Chrome and Notepad++, no image editing programs open yet. I had the issue that, even only opening the bgm folder from the windows explorer will also crash and had to reestart it, but once I uninstalled Audacity that issue went away. But the other even just having RMMZ open happens every time the windows explorer opens up to select a file or a folder.

Right now I'm trying to figure if this is something related to Windows 10 and some weird update, but it will take a while.

@Winshifter : It might be. I think there is a chance audacity needs an update as it was having issues reading the .ogg files they used in MZ for some reason. Mine was a 2017 version of Audacity too so it might just be dated.

Still check and see what tries to open those files for tiles and such in another maker (like MV) and see what happens. That will show you what program is probably the issue too.

Usually it has to do with Windows. I don't hate windows (I actually don't like Mac), but recently the updates have gotten worse and worse.

Try restarting your computer first before opening it again.

I tried with MV and it opens them fine, but MZ has the same issue even with the option to open project. The window that opens to select the folder makes MZ to crash completely.
Like I said, if it is something related to an update from Windows 10, it will take I while, because I would have to uninstall a lot of the updates just to check if it is one or not.

I can't duplicate it on my system, if you're tech savvy you might try running a ProcMon trace to see what it's trying to do when it hits a crash.

I tried procMon, didn't understand much of it and anyway doesn't help that much. Windows log has a crash report on it, but I'm unable to access it. It's always the same, trying to open any file from RMMZ crashes completely. I still can use the software, but I can't open any file that is stored in my pc from MZ, I have to copy it directly to the folder and then I can do whatever I want with it in MZ.

So far I have tried turning off my antivirus, running the executable file as an admin user, uninstalled and reinstalled the software. So far all with the same results.

Hello.
I imported the Steam DLC) Trinity resource but it didn't crash.
Audacity 2.3.3
If you uninstall Audacity and solve it, why not try changing versions?

My spec:
Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Version 10.0.18362 build 18362

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz、3601 Mhz
RAM 32GB

I hope for a solution.

I don't understand the question. Audacity only makes the audio folder where any MZ audio file is stored to crash the Windows Explorer. I installed the most recent version of Audacity (2.4.2) and the issue persists if installed, If I uninstall audacity I don't have any issue accessing through the Windows Explorer any folder that has audio files for MZ.

Regarding the other issue, I just simply can import from MZ any file, I need to manually move it through Window Explorer not through MZ. For example, in MZ normally you would use the Resource Manager to import any file you want or need, hit the import button and a window to select the file will show. But in my case, the moment I do that, the program crashes completely. It's still usable, because there are workarounds, but this shouldn't happen. Normally this kind of things happens when you are using a software that is not designed for a particular architecture or the pc running the software is using bellow minimum software required specifications. That or some other program (usually antivirus and security software) causes issues and finding which one is kind of complicated.

For me it's the first time it happens with any RPG Maker to have this kind of issue. So for me it's a weird bug that basically will not be solved soon (I'm betting it will take between a 1 and 3 years to fix it by experience, but that's in the worst case scenario). Anyway, like I said, I'll keep looking if I manage to get a better report.

If you can get a ProcMon trace it'd help figure it out. Essentially, it logs everything the app is touching in the system, whenever it crashes the last set of items it was loading can point to where the issue might be (did it scan a certain registry hive or try to load a specific DLL?)

In ProcMon there is a magnifying glass icon (or you can press Ctrl+E) to start/stop the capture. Pause the capture then add a filter for the Process Id (PID) of your RPGMZ.exe. You can get that from task manager. Then start the ProcMon capture again and try to replicate the crash.

As soon as it crashes, pause the ProcMon then you can do File > Save As to record it. If you share that file I can take a look at it and see if there's any clue. If you filter by the PID then only activity from that process will be logged.

Isn't that interesting?
