Hope I'm not posting in the wrong place...

One of my maps slows the player's speed to x2 slower (setting 3 in the Set Movement Route command). I'd like for there to be single tiles placed around the map that allow the player to muster the strength to "push through," and I'd like for the tiles to change the player's speed back to normal (setting 4 in the Set Movement Route command) for a short duration of time (approximately 10 seconds or so) before reverting back to the x2 slower speed. I'd prefer not to use a Plugin if this is something that can be done with simple eventing!

Any ideas?

Make those events activate a switch, and then make a common event activated by that switch. I guess you could make a condition that checks if the value of a variable is equal to 10. If it is, it will deactivate the switch and set the speed back to slow. If not, it will set the speed to normal, add +1 to the variable and wait 60 frames.

Thanks a lot, this sounds promising! Sorry for sounding so ignorant, but I accomplish this in the Database by...

Creating a Common Event with a Parallel (?) Trigger using the Switch the Player turns on by stepping on the respite tile?

In the Contents of the Common Evnet:
If: #0001 (?) = 10 (?)
>?
Else
>?
End

In other words: should I use the "Control Variables" option or the "Conditional Branch" option in the Contents section, or both?

You'll use "Conditional Branch" to the check, and the "Control Variables" in the else part, something like this:

Thanks for your help! I'm trying to build the common event like you've shown above. I have attached a screenshot of my progress trying to build it like you specified. I have typed in all caps the terms I entered myself.

I created an event tile on the map to turn on the Switch I titled "DUNES RESPITE." I assume this corresponds to your Switch 0003: Vel 3. (This is better than calling a Common Event in the tile?)

It looks like the first thing you did was make a conditional branch, although yours looks different from mine. Did you create a variable called "Timer?" Or are you using the "Game data" preset called "timer?" Also, how can I get mine to have two equal signs instead of just one?

I'm also not sure how to get the += 1 in the "Control Variables" part of the "se nao" (sorry I can't find the keystroke for the tilde) portion of the Conditional Branch.

I'm gonna watch some more tutorials on Common Events, but I think we are close to solving this! I really appreciate the help.

After watching some tutorials, this is what I ended up doing! It works beautifully, I just had to be sure to put the seconds back to 0 and turn the switch off if the player leaves the map (I put those commands in the transfer events in case the player escapes!). Thanks for your help! I learned more than I was asking for, this is why I love this forum.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving!
