Info;

3 months ago downloaded Trial Version of RPG Maker VX Ace... it didn't work. (uninstalled)

3 months ago downloaded RTP to play others games... didn't work (never uninstalled)

2-3 weeks ago during Steam Summer Sale, bought RPG Maker VX ACE. Installed

Messed around for 1 week finding scripts. Added Sapphire Script to one game. Added Yanfly class scripts to another and wrote my own script for player / event reactions using conditional branches.

Now;

When I start a game, the game RGSS3 has stopped working (randomly).  When I run the battle test the game RGSS3 stops working (randomly).

I tried removing all scripts; no change.

I tried making a new game; no change.

I tried disabling DEP for RPG Maker and the game.exe; no change.

I tried Mithran's VX script, while at first it seemed to have fixed the issue, it still persists; no change.

Errors I get are; ntdll.dll and StackHash

What is the next thing I should do? How does one fix this error?

What happens with the steam version is that the playtest button doe shave issues. It isn't uncommon for it to crash without actually doing anything, or getting stuck a little bit, but so far I've never experience or heard of anyone losing data because of this. Try running the game outside of the editor, just go to your project folder and run Game.exe and see if you still get the error.

I have now also tried;

Uninstalling the old RTP; no change.

Uninstalling and Re-Installing RPG Maker VX ACE; no change.

Another thing I notice is doing battle test sometimes results in nothing happening.

The game.exe by itself seems to work fine.  Closing Steam and running RPG Maker without Steam so far seems to be better.

Can we get screenshots or the full description of your exact errors please? Are you using Windows 8?

Those kinds of bugs are difficult to detect even for the programmer with full code knowledge...

It can't be a general error, or there would be a lot more topics about this - in most cases the program runs stable (haven't had this error myself, although I haven't done excessive playtesting yet).

On the other hand, there have been several cases of similiar-looking errors, so it's most probably not just the computer/windows itself being bad.

My guess from reading about this so far is that there is an incompatibility with another program/driver/setting that is used by several people on their computers, but wasn't used on the developer's PCs so they never encountered the problem.

I think the only way to pinpoint this is to find several people with this problem and start comparing their lists of installed programs/drivers for something that is on all of their machines but not on others.

And even that can fail if the error comes from two different incompatibilities and only looks the same to us....

Just something you may want to try - and unplug any extra devices you may have inserted in your USB ports.  I've found that certain plug ins like joysticks, controllers web cams... ect can cause RPG Maker VX Ace to crash.  So if you want, try unplugging everything except your keyboard and see if that helps.

That's great! I guess this can be solved then, just run Ace directly and not from Steam.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
